Does anyone organize there models by era?
Wagoneer81 replied to greymack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At one time, AKA when I had the room, I had them displayed as a kind of timeline... right now, I'm just lucky to have them out on display... -
your work bench
Wagoneer81 replied to dabelltoller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Looks like one of those old, multi-piece bodys... kind of a pain to build but they look pretty darn good if you do 'em right. Ed, your bench looks a lot like mine. Creativity is definitely NOT a pretty site! Any chance of getting to see that Healy when it's finished? -
What? No April Fools Humor Today?
Wagoneer81 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Several years ago, in Model Railroader, there was an article about a group that built No-Trak modules... The premise was that the group modeled abandoned right-of-ways that had been converted into bike and walking trails... I mean, how inexpensive would a bunch of PE brass bicycles be compared to HO scale brass engines? Tony Koester and the MRR crew actually built an HO scale abandoned right of way module for pictures for the article... complete with PE brass bicycles and hikers... Austin T, I 'Clearly' remember the Clearview 2000 article! Wasn't that in the same issue as the 'Plastic as an Investment' article? -

How about the family?
Wagoneer81 replied to Sam Cates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No kids, but these are my two rambunctious Weiner-Dogs, during a rare idle moment in their second-favorite place... on the back of the couch. Their favorite place is in the chair with me... Gus is the black and tan Dapple, He's 4 years old and Sweet Pea is the tan, she is almost 9. -

Hessel, JimB, thanks for ganging up on this and answering my question... Wow... a 20 yard truck... Being that I've often poured 6-8 yard concrete pads and driveways solo or with just one other laborer, I would NOT have wanted to see one of these things arrive on site. 20 yardsd is a lot of 'crete to work! Also, I am going to be a pest and repeat Ben's question, Will you be offering this as a kit for sale? With a few 'Americanized' details, it would make a great construction site/onsite plant transporter... I could see one of my Paystar 5000's yanking one of these around a construction site diorama... -

Hessel, Those are VERY impressive! I love the White/Freightliner! What a beauty of a truck! Having worked for several years in utility construction and having spent considerable time working concrete, answer me this, if you please; How many cubic yards or cubic meters of concrete does that trailer haul?!? 12-16 yards is about the max you can get on one truck here in the States, your's looks to be about twice that capacity... Very impressive, I will look in now and again to see more progress! -
Prettymuch, the title says it all... I'm working on restoring the blue Transtar 4300 that I got in that big truck junkyard buy and it is equipped with a naturally aspirated vt 903... I have found several good overall pics of this engine and cannot see where the fuel lines between the pump and the cylinders run. Are they under a cover? I know on an International v800, they all run to the center of the rocker covers and then under to each cylinder. As for the 903's lines, am I worrying about something that can't even be seen? If so, no worries, I'll plumb what I see in the pics and move on.

Easy backstory, It's a prototype, a test bed to try out new designs and ideas. The project was abandoned after it was discovered that its unstable nature couldn't be overcome. Your great uncle found it in an old abandoned shed in Detroit back in the late 1940's. Somehow it got missed during the WWII scrap drives... It has slumbered in his barn since then. You discovered it a few years ago and after exhaustive archive diving, you found out what it was and restored it... Just a shoot-from-the-hip idea... Enjoy! Looking at your concept, if you don't put front fenders on it, and place the front tire as far forward as possible, it may be more stable than the Reliant... I know that's not saying much but, that Reliants' square overhanging front end couldn't have helped the lateral weight distribution any...

Bought my first MPC kit today...
Wagoneer81 replied to trey allen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Uhh... Yeah, definitely. You, sir, are spoiled! Just remember, test fit, trim, test fit, trim and test fit, trim, glue... Something you don't always have to do with better engineered kits... -
And the looks on everone's faces said that it happens all the time... None of them acted a bit suprised when he came in on his side...

Lookin' good!

GO, DIRK, GO!!! Personally, I have around a dozen projects in the works right now... and that's not counting the 1/72 aircraft projects... My bedroom looks like a Hobby Shop exploded in it... I look at it this way; Someday, I'll have a really nice collection of newly completed models... If it's a sickness, I don't wanna get well!!! I look forward to seeing more of this and have to say that I think only the Mustang could make that shade of green look good... I dunno what it is about it but... wow! One thing I have learned from your Chronic Modelers ADD... I am learning which Mustang kits are worth their salt and which ones to stay away from...

Wagoneer81 replied to polandmob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Uh huh! Several of us have been there, done that, and still regret what we did. I can't, in good conscience, sit back and watch someone else make the same mistake I made, without at least throwing my hat in the ring... I still have 'down times' when I just don't feel like doing any building. The longest was three months...Long story short; I'm still building. Over the winter, I felt like giving it up. Today, I have 3 stock Model-T's on the bench along with 5 other projects, in various levels of completion. Does this sound like the same person that was seriously considering getting out of it a few months ago??? -
C'mon, people, I gotta side with Harry here... I'd say he is who he is... I mean, I've seen the pictures of him, that he has posted... Who but the real owner of that mug would claim it?!? WHOA! Down Harry, humor... joke!!!... OUCH!!! Martinfan, as to getting debris in the paint, no matter how clean I keep the garage or spraybooth, I can never keep 'floaties' out of fresh paint. This is why they invented 2400 grit polishing pads... Polish, buff, coat with Future, problem solved!

I sold of 95% of my 1/25 scale stash about ten years ago... Just didn't see myself getting back into cars and trucks... I am STILL kicking myself today for doing that... I had out of production kits that were old when I picked up as a teenager that would be worth a mint today, not to mention other kits that just can't be found now.. 1/8, 1/12, 1/16, 1/25... STUPID ME!!! Thinned my stash out about 4 years ago.... MISTAAAKE!!! Do yourself a big, long-term favor... Put everything away somewhere and forget about it for a while. If you don't change your mind in a few years, THEN get rid of it. You cannot make a good snap decision about this subject... ever! -
Real or Model #188 FINISHED!
Wagoneer81 replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I say, 'Real'. -
Very nice! I like the fact that you did a custom paintjob and then gave it a light, daily-driver style weathering...
-
That was pretty darned cool! Nice junkyard diorama!
-
Very nice, subtle build! I'm really becoming a fan of the pre-Stingray 'Vettes... And you gotta love that mechanical fuel injection... You don't see many of those in builds anymore...
-
And that, my friend, is one of the many wonderful things about building in scale. The unlikely becomes likely when the only real limit is your imagination! I agree, what a beautiful automobile! My LHS has two of these kits on the shelves... I was looking at them really hard, yesterday... I may have to break down and get one.
-
NICE! I like those!

I got the "itch" again...
Wagoneer81 replied to Sam Cates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I get it all the time... weekly, no less... I need another project or need to add to the stash or need to spend the money like I need another hole in the head, but I still get it... I still look around for deals, parts, componentes, etc... Yeah, I still 'window shop' all the time. what do I do to talk myself out of a second bankruptcy? I start thinking about what I can do with what I have and the itch kinda gets scratched from there... So, no worries, You're not the only plastic junkie out there.. There are thousands of us, I guarantee!
