Van Halen replied to Van Halen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
wow love the dirt track one !!! good call on the sprue, i was thinking with toothpicks i will get the grain of the wood come through the paint so i will use sprue prob.. -
could you or anyone give me some info on Sexton ? Ive never heard of him before
-
Can you please help ID these?
Van Halen replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I take it #7 is something american made, being as the paint job's after the mustang fighter "old crow" layout, so i doubt its an Austin. i could be wrong ? -
Another good stripping agent

I have found that any oven cleaner SPRAY works the best.. i followed a popular guide i found basically - get a thick plastic bag - put all your plastic in - spray it with a decent amount of oven cleaner (spray works good because it bubbles and covers your plastic) -wait about 24hrs -scrub off with a toothbrush, whipe clean with water really simple, really effective -
Hey guys, ive planned a project of making a race/track day car outta a 85' 1/24 monogram corvette i have bought.. The cars kits completely stock, i just wanted to know if anyone else has ever converted a model into a race car / track car ? I think it will be a fun build, i have planned to build the roll cage out of toothpicks or the plastic from sprues, i am using some spair NISMO wheels, i have some number decals too ! Also has anyone made any arches/spoilers in general race parts and what out of ? I am going to make it just like this below, except a bit more "race - looking" asin more body kit, bigger numbers, couple sponsors etc..

Gran Turismo 5 - November 2 - 2010
Van Halen replied to seeker589's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
brand new video, uploaded seconds ago.. -
I get kiiinda annoyed by seeing the amount of people with more kits than they need and even multiple kits of the same cars.. I only have 4 kits "spair" at the moment of which im building on my 8 weeks summer holiday soon, being from the UK i find it sooooo hard to find old american 1/24'ths here and when i do they cost quite a bit and are ofcourse second hand. STILL.. Seeing you guys with that many kits i guess its acceptable if your a kit collector (which to me makes no sense) yes is probably why the american kit manufactures arent selling as good as they used to.. I agree that if you made all them kits then you would all be emailing kit makers to start making certain cars which now 2010 will be of amazing quality and the prices will go down with a higher demand.. So maybe you all should stop buying kits or maybe ship some crates over to me B)

Hey guys, when i re-stared model kits a few weeks ago my kit arrived early and i didnt have any new paints/tools for it.. So i rushed to my LHS and bought about 10 small pots of ENAMEL paint for all the detailing, ive noticed its a complete pain to use at times and when i just looked at some guys photos of a WIP he uses Tamiya acrylic pots (X-##) which another LHS has every color of, i used to use acrylics for when i did war gaming models, but i presumed everyone used enamel in cars for some reason ? So it is ok to go buy a load of Tamiya Acrylics for my detailing instead of those pain in the back side enamels ? And if so/no what are the pros/cons in model car kits when using them ? Thanks in adVANce

Concept cars youd love to see?
Van Halen replied to dryvr12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just get a Holden Ute, stick a Pontiac grill, engine and other details on it and.. Wa-lah ! -- whilst browsing the interwebs i found this crazy mix of Italy and American car breeding.. Its a Bertone Concept Corvette 1984 called "Ramarro" which means green lizard in italian. -
Does anyone know what fitting Monogram wheels are ?? thanks in advance

The plastic the vett' was moulded in is blue, but the color i bought is a really nice metallic blue..

24 hours of Le Mans Live!
Van Halen replied to simonr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey guys, what time does this finish in british time ? -
I laughed And i dont know man, ive watched the first 2 FaF films loads as they were really what started the attempt of a tuning scene in the UK, which was and still is a horrifcly bad result of absolutley no engine tuning, but aftermarker body kits and 25 inch alloys.. Toykyo drift was OKaay, but i just lost my patience when they put a japanese engine in a mustang.. And for 4, i still havent seen it, its for sale at my local store for a pound or so, so i might pick it up soon.. As for cars, i wish FaF stuck with the tuner scene but got more action/drama/guns involved instead of the variety of cars, I loved the first 2 because they were my first introduction to what the F these high-viz chromed engined neon sticken cars were.. although i am a muscle person, i do love true tuned jap cars, no body kits, no nonsense neons etc..

Concept cars youd love to see?

Love that El Camino , it looks like a Camaro/UTE. I would like to see a new Firebird.. if pontiac were still alive. lets hope the bird can rise from the ashes in the future.. But speaking of the firebird.. there was plans for a station wagon firebird, and i beleive a few were made ? I am a huge fan on muscle cars with odd features them like the el camino being a muscle truck, that pontiaca muscle station wagon etc.. -

Who says I can't play Golf ?
Van Halen replied to Barbo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I couldnt agree more, that is a great piece of engineering there making things like that possible hope you had a great time -
Yup, thats what i use, its £6 ($9) a can of 300ml, its a tiny bit too thick for model kits as its actual auto paint, but with a decent distance and quite a few layers its pretty good. $9 is quite a bit but i guess its 3x as much paint than you get in a can of Tamiya which is about £5/6 here, you probably get it cheaper in USA.

Dave, i have seen some Fujimi males also, so i guess this can be a list of the majority used fittings, would you say this is correct so far (as the most used fittings) and do you know any other makes, please add so i can add to the list
-
Hi, I would like to know a list of all model makers wheel fittings they use.. (female or male) So here is a list so far of the WHEEL FITTINGS, (NOT the axel fittings or part on the body which is the opposite ofcourse.) Aoshima - female AMT - female Arii - male Fujimi - female Jo-Han - female Monogram - female MPC - female Revell - female Tamiya - male *Note, almost all makes produce wheels in both fittings, but this is a list of what they use mostly. -- if no one has a list or knows a page with them all one, post them and i will update this list and you can then save this page for reference ? cheers

Right, with blue the most popular vote i finally came to the decision of painting it Quasar Blue.. BUT With many people mentioning a Van Halen color scheme which im all for ive had second thoughts BUT ..Thats blue for a reason.. the actual plastic the corvette body is molded is.. you guessed it blue, this means its going to be a complete pain to paint the red ontop im gona have to primer it like mad that could loose detail due to thick primer.. BUT I think im going to do the Corolla Levin i bought'Van Halen style' for the jap community build and name it "Van Levin".. What do you all think ? Quasar Blue it is ? or Van Vette' ?
