building a model for money ?
buskid replied to dabelltoller's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I customize Hot Wheel's for fun and for myself. I enjoy the compliments and the look of amazement when others view my work. One time, I agreed to do a set of four cars for somebody for an agreed price (very low for the work involved). I ran into a lot of problems with paint and the designs. I really "pushed the envelope" for this person and was satisfied with my work. When I delivered the finished set, the buyer was more than pleased. He held on to them for a couple of months and then sold them on E-bay for a lot more than he paid. I also have heard of people purchasing built models and then entering them in model contests as there own. There's a lot to think about when you build for other people. -

Great work as usual. I have a question for you. What happened to the huge tow truck you were working on? I was following the build getting ideas for my next possible project. I love those aluminum wheels you had on the truck and the tires. -
Thanks for the info. Now I need to get busy..

Does anyone know if or when the San Diego LLCMCC will be or not be??

I sure am glad the Monogram/ Revell/ AMT, have been re-issueing their old kits. I now have some of those models that I had as a kid and can build them the way they're supposed to be built ( not glue bombs or even spray bombed).

I'm not too sure. I purchased them awhile back at a LLCMCC show(early 2000). I haven't seen the seller since.

I had started something like this years ago. I altered the wheelbase, had everything painted, scratchbuilt interior doorpanels, the works. Then one morning my cat decided to destroy it. Oh well, I loved that animal! BTW, nice work!

I'm sorry to say this but I think the motor is going to over-power the wing...Love your sense of humor!

Beautiful builds as always! Question..Where do you get your rear tires on your models? (directional) Thanks!

I read some of your bio comments from SAE where "you dream of becoming a professional model builder someday". Wake up and realize.... you ARE A PROFESSIONAL MODEL BUILDER!!! Keep up the excellent work and the inspiration for the rest of us. THANK YOU!!

The El Camino is a '65. The '64 has a flat grill while the '65 has a pointed grill.

I think most of this model was built from the Revell Max Rat Chevelle. That's where I've seen those taillights.

I think the model companies should look at what's selling on E-bay and fetching the most bids and money. For example, I would love to have all the Tom Daniel's kits ( S'cool Bus, Bad Medicine, L'il Coffin, or even large trucks like the Peterbilt Can Do wrecker or the Bill Sign's Peterbilt.) These are kits I would purchase in a heartbeat. I feel that re-issues are a hidden source of income for the model companies. Thanks to re-issues, I now have the Rommel's Rod and many other vehicles that were discontinued years ago.

I'm a caring and sympathetic person and when I see a poor, helpless model that needs a home, I do my best to accomodate it and give it a nice place to stay. I have over 500 unbuilt models who are sitting in a comfortable garage, in boxes, and my room and when I see them, they give me lots of joy because they are all content and happy to be here!
