Sorry guys another basic question as I get back into the hobby. So we have Tamiya acrylic, lacquer and enamel paints as well as clear coats. If I am building a race model and want to clear coat over decals what is the best to use? For example lacquer paint then place the decals then clear with lacquer and polish the clear? I understand some clears will attach decals. I guess the question I am getting to is when do I use acrylic vs lacquer vs enamel. I build race cars which are my favorite but also will build a custom hot rod with a smooth rich finish. Thanks in advance...DWR

Great link Terry...thank you. I am not sure if I am going to complete the project or not. I purchased The new Revell Mongoose kit and the body was damaged, I ordered a new body from Revell and it came damaged as well. I have heard this kit has some issues so I think I will give up on getting a good body from Revell and try my hand at a resin body and after looking at your link I may try a Vega, Monza or Arrow body. Does anybody know if any after market suppliers made decals for the Prudomme Army cars? I like the old funny cars in fact I just made a deal on a NIP Revell Don Schumacher 74 Vega and NIP Monogram Billy Meyer 7-11 Mustang II.

I purchased a new Revell Mongoose kit and the body had defects, I contacted Revell and they sent me a new body but it also had defects. So to avoid further frustration I thought I would try a resin funny car body. I have seen some fantastic examples of resin bodies on this site so thought I would ask a few questions. First what do you do for windshields? all of the bodies I looked at do not come with them, I will probably buy a Vega or Monza body so using the exsisting one from the Mongoose kit is not an option. Second question is what are some of the manufacturers I should be looking at? Thanks...DWR

I am building the Blue Duster version of the Mongoose ( Slixx Decals ) Can anyone tell me if the chassis was blue on this car? I have been looking for reference photos but can't find any with the body up or off.

What is the best way to strip chrome from parts w/o damaging the parts?

Thank you diymirage. After the 3-4 coats of clear do I polish that with the high grit polishing paper like I would with a regular paint job?

This is going to be a very basic question for everyone so excuse my ignorance, I am back to modeling after many years away. I am doing a Levi Garrett Reher and Morrison pro stock and it will be a yellow and white paint job. The first car I did back was a single paint so polishing it with superfine grit finishing sandpaper was no problem. Can I use the same finishing paper or will there be a problem with where the two colors meet?
