  1. I think we're discussing two different but similar problems; the two-piece hard vinyl or plastic tire and slicks with separate sidewalls (eg Revell's old style). I used to systematically discard those two piece tires as they were just too hard to make look right, but i HAVE used them a couple of times on "period correct" 1970's kits. never used any type of glue on them, just relied on the wheel interface to hold them. my peeve is the soft rubber tires in Tamiya kits (haven't had Aoshima or Fujimi tires do it) splitting across the tread. matter of fact, tires are one of the reasons i shied away from old-school Monogram kits for so long; theirs never looked "right" to me. Moebius and Round 2 are the only makers whose tires look good right out of the box. Revell's would be better if they had any sidewall detail to speak of. the '50 Olds and '57 Ford tires are a step in the right direction.
  2. most states still had (many still DO, just don't enforce) some pretty draconic vehicle lighting regulations in those days; only certain vehicles could have extra lighting, usually Police or Fire Dept vehicles. Thirties luxury cars usually had extra lights but that trend died with envelope bodies. Even a functional spotlight was a reason for Police harassment.
  3. i was curious about the narrow track, the rear wheels appear to be inside the body line, not just inside the skirted wheel wells! the grille looked shopped and I was hunting French coachbuilt stuff... good one Harry!
  4. i've had Tamiya tires split. aggravating, as their wheels don't match up to most other brand's tires.
  5. code enforcement would like to have a little chat with you, as well as the homeowner's association....
  6. i'm motivated to find a '64 and do a 1:1......
  7. sure, GM needs to be bailed out every couple of years; this will trigger the next collapse.
  8. hmmmmmmmmm. tough one.
  9. wow, again; that's a nice build.
  10. great job; i bought this kit and just could not bring myself to build it; instead, i scavenged all the parts for other builds.
  11. i have one that frustrated me badly with that same hood issue, i've disassembled it twice to redo it. might just have to live with it as you decided, and put it back together. the blue is fantastic; it has the "look", as all of your builds do.
  12. very nicely done.
  13. in a Galaxie up on blocks in a field... too easy. check out all the "flying cars" in the Phantom Menace etc and find the original influence cars....
  14. ironic that surviving examples my be worth MORE than Interceptors... due to such limited production and far-flung locale...
  15. box art models are killer. i built this same model when i first started building, didn't know my elbow from my ear about cars.
  16. your English is better than my Finnish, I guarantee. nice build, clean work and well thought out.
  17. if by "photoshop", you mean "really crappy rendition of a poorly though out concept", i agree.
  18. check out the Youtube clip of "The Leviathan", a concept short that Neil Blomkamp intends to bring to the screen (I showed ZH the other day) for some inspiration.... George Lucas let his love for cars spill into the Star Wars universe, yet none of them had wheels.....
  19. Sonny has a great history of building shotgun engines. "ALL MOTOR" is the motto around Lynchburg among the clients he has.
  20. the brush guard looks like the one from the Boondocker Blazer kit, i might be wrong.
  21. no idea... cute, though.
  22. definitely looks like it can "walk the walk".
  23. excellent work.
  24. i'll bet there are a bunch of the AMT "mini" kit box cards that members might send you... i have no use for the ones I have. I did assemble one just for kicks. there were none.
  25. celebrities do stupid things on the spur of the moment and often make apologies later... Clarkson is a known quantity and certain behavior seems expected or at least not unexpected from him. Part of his persona, it endears him to some and demonizes him to others. We have plenty of our own stateside boors to serve as bad examples. Hopefully calmer minds prevail, TG goes on, and Clarkson remains.
