According to the book HOT RODS BY ED "BIG DADDY" ROTH, the SBC was put in just before Roth bought the car. And thats in Roth's own words.

I think they did a fine job on the new parts - at least now you can build a replica of the original without a lot of fuss. The kit is still missing the Baby Moons that the real car is almost always seen with, but I can't imagine a parts box without a set of those...!

1984 Custom Cadillac (California Wheels Edition) By Revell
larrygre replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This kit first appeared as a builtuip diecast. This is its third goaround as a plastic kit. -
Seems the chassis fits well under the old All American Models' '56 Chrysler 300B and the F&F Resin '56 DeSoto Adventurer pace car convertible. Finally, a worthy donor kit!

GOODYEAR decals or stnecils for 1970s slicks

Never mind, folks - I found a source for these. -
Yeppers. Chuck!

Hey everyone, Who currently makes decals or an airbruishing stencil for GOODYEAR lettering for 1970s vintage slicks (as in, Revell's recently issued funny cars and dragsters) - all help is appreciated. TIA.

What happened to Revell of Gemany Ferrari 250 SWB
larrygre replied to Phildaupho's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Ken, so far Academy has boxed there of them: the F40, the California, and the Testarossa. None of them bear Ferrari name or decals. If they ever do box the SWB, it will sell like snow cones in July. If they box the 275GTB/4, even more so. -
Thanks guys! Being that I do mostly replica stock I never immersed myself in the art of braided lines and A/N fittings but now that I got the itch to do the AA/FCs from the good old days...lets just say you can teach an old dog new tricks! Thanks again!!

What happened to Revell of Gemany Ferrari 250 SWB
larrygre replied to Phildaupho's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Gerry, at one time that was true. Those were the years that no new (or repopped) Ferrari models were produced by either Tamiya OR Revell (right after the F50). Whether Mattel still has control of Ferrari licensing, I do not know. -
Hey everyone, Looking for good photos of funny car engines from the early to mid 1970s to help detail the recent issues from Revell and the forthcoming funny cars from Round2. Also any modeling articles, in print and online, that show how to use braided line and A/N fittings on such engines. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Yeah I know, thats the last shovel of dirt on the grave of my "Strictly Stock" reputation!!!

PRESS RELEASE dated March 21, 2012 "Round 2, LLC, is thrilled to introduce Legends of the Quarter Mile™, a new line of drag racing memorabilia including 1:25 scale plastic model kits, 1:64 scale slot cars and highly detailed die cast 1:18 scale replica Funny Cars. Round 2 is going back to the heart of the sport of drag racing with these desirable collectibles. Legends of the Quarter Mile will honor the Funny Car racers of the late 1960s through the 1970s, when the sport of drag racing was starting to gain real momentum. Fans flocked to the tracks to see the flashy and unpredictable over-the-top racers, with their flip-up bodies on a tube chassis, filled with the growing technology of the era. These cars set the stage for drag racing as we know it today. Legendary names in drag racing like what they’ve seen of the new line, and can’t wait to get their hands on these new products. “Cars like this are what drag racing stands for,” said “Big” Jim Dunn, NHRA Hall of Fame member, former Funny Car driver and current NHRA team owner. “These are truly legends of the sport, and I’m honored to be a part of this history.” The Legends of the Quarter Mile model kit series will feature MPC, Polar Lights and AMT kits 1:25 scale. Legends model kits will kick off with Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick’s 1969 “The Super Judge” GTO Funny Car in September, followed in October by another famous flopper to be announced soon. This will be the first time in decades that many of these kits have been reissued and they are rated as skill level 2 with paint and cement required. Additionally, Auto World is creating 1:64 scale slot cars in the style of the classic drag racers as well. The Legends line of slot cars will feature Funny Car bodies on Auto World’s 4Gear chassis, which has an extended wheelbase and large dragster-inspired wheels and tires. Best of all, two neodymium traction magnets make them the perfect “engines” for these classic Funny Cars. Also being released is a slot car drag strip track set. It includes the vintage race cars along with 13 feet of track, two variable speed controllers and an LED Christmas tree with in-track sensors and win lights, letting you bring the thrill of drag racing to your own living room! Auto World is investing in all-new tooling for the Legends die cast line, which will debut with four cars in 2012, and is projecting six to 10 cars next year, all as limited editions. The Legends line represents the first time that vintage Funny Cars have been replicated so authentically in the 1:18 scale. Shirley “Cha Cha” Muldowney, NHRA Hall of Fame member and renowned Funny Car and Top Fuel dragster driver, is excited to be included in the 2013 lineup, too. “These cars look beautiful. I can’t wait to see my old Mustang in this large-scale replica,” said Muldowney, also known as the “First Lady of Drag Racing.” The 1:18 scale is an ideal size for Auto World to create such a detailed model, with room to include all the features that bring a Funny Car to life. These die cast cars will have over 100 parts, including soft rubber tires, authentic replica plastic Funny Car bodies styled just like the real thing with historically accurate graphics, detailed wheels, and manufacturer-specific engines that are fully wired and plumbed. “Everything about these cars looks fantastic,” Round 2 President Tom Lowe said. “We’re the first one to do it in this level of detail. This era of drag racing was the start of all the excitement and noise, and we’re proud to be able to be a part of it in our own way.” Look for these exciting race cars at your local hobby store in the third and fourth quarters of 2012 and see more information online at www.autoworldhobby.com/legends." (end of press release) LG COMMENTS: The next kits in the series following the Beswick Super Judge will be the Tommy Grove "The Going Thing" 70 Mustang (from the Polar Lights Gas Ronda/Blue Max tooling) and the Candies and Hughes '69 Cuda (from the Polar Lights Don Schumacher/Big John Mazmanian tooling). More reissues will be coming from AMT, MPC, and Polar Lights tools. Keep 'em coming Round2! I say that with a tear in my eye, as Slixx is going the way of the dodo just at the time we really need them!!!

Its a bit more than that. The ride height of an Avanti II was different. There are a lot of little differences between the original and the II, both internal and external. A good friend of mine had an Avanti II and previously had an original Avanti - he pointed out the differences to me. If you really want a II, some research is in order. Fortunately, there's a lot of good Avanti stuff - both original and II - online.

Both manufacturers have done a good job with the new Challenger. But it's a little more than if you want a full detail kit or not. Revell only does the SRT8. AMT does the SRT8 (2008 and 2010), R/T (2009), and R/T Classic (2010). Granted, thats wheels/tires and decals mainly, but that said, you cannot build a Revell kit as anything BUT an SRT8 unless you swap in a Hemi from their now out of production Dodge Magnum R/T or the AMT Chrysler 300C, tweak that engine for the differences ina Challenger, and use a set of AMT's decals. So IMHO, its not merely whether you want a curbside or full detail kit, its what version you want to model. Just my .02.

What happened to Revell of Gemany Ferrari 250 SWB

I wonder if Italeri lost or did not renew the Ferrari license(s). That would explain a great deal. -
Kitbashing the LIndberg '48 with the Monogram '41 WILL yield a pretty decent model. Its no shake and bake, but it CAN be done.

Hobbico buys Revell by Lewis Tyler Revell and its UK subsidiary become part of the US hobby giant. 14 February 2012 2:31 PM Hobbico has announced the purchase of Revell Germany, inclusive of Revell UK, for an undisclosed sum. The company will become the European Branch of Hobbico. “Hobbico’s acquisition of Revell Germany creates an enormous opportunity for our company and our employees,” said Hans Remfert, president of Revell Germany. “With the support of Hobbico as a strong parent company, we have a great opportunity to extend our new engagement in the RC hobby segment on the European markets. Hobbico has experience and know-how in this area as well as a strong assortment of product with worldwide recognition which we will integrate into ours according to the European market conditions. As the European branch for Hobbico, the jobs and the headquarters in Bünde are absolutely safe.” “This acquisition bodes well for the UK market, as the UK operation is a Branch of Revell Germany,” added Thomas Randrup, country manager of Revell UK and Ireland. Hobbico purchased Revell’s US operation in 2007, after Revell Germany was spun off as a separate company in 2006. “We are pleased to reunite the Revell brand under one ownership,” said Wayne Hemming, president of Hobbico. “Now Revell can proceed with a worldwide strategy for growth of the core plastic model business. We also view this as an excellent foundation to expand the distribution of our other brands and products into the European market.” Hobbico is a manufacturer of model hobby products, including R/C models, plastic model kits, flying model rockets and other hobby and toy products. Revell Germany New Car and Truck Releases 2012

Luc, I'll agree totally on the Mark I Capri AND the Manta. Those were GREAT cars. Add to that a Triumph TR4/4A/250, MGA Twin Cam 1600, Daimler SP250, and a Renault Caravelle. Cars from an era when cars were sexy and not mere appliances. -

The new VW Samba Bus is an all new tooling and has nothing whatsoever in common with the old 1959-era kit. That it has a multi-piece body is due to the desire to have optional position doors and internal detail, both of which would have been a tooling nightmare with a one piece body if it were indeed possible. The Hasegawa kit (and Revell's reboxing of it ) had a one piece body but no interior side panels or internal detail. One edition of the Hasegawa kit came with resin cast interior side panels, but that was quite expensive and VERY hard to find. -
Revell Germany New Car and Truck Releases 2012

One thing we're not taking into consideration here is a very important part of any company's product planning: market segmentation. Traditionally, the Japanese model kit companies plan almost exclusively for their home market, with exports being secondary and sometimes barely an afterthought. The same can be said for European companies such as Airfix and Heller; Airfix rigidly seems to stick to 1/32 scale for their car kits, the latest types concentrating on European racing and rallying. Heller's recent car kits are all Euro rally types, both 1/24 and 1/43 scale - and outside of a few of us die-hard racing lovers, not a hell of a lot of either kits are going to be sold here in the USA for the same reason that not a hell of a lot of NASCAR kits will sell in Europe (or Asia for that matter). So, there you have the main reason that RoG is doing a 1960s Mini Cooper while Tamiya still has a perfectly good one in their line. The Deux Chevaux is a bit more quizzical, considering the Heller/Airfix kit is quite good - it was still listed in their 2011 catalogue but currently a tad hard to find. In any case, RoG's kit seems far more state of the art. As far as Mercedes Benz and BMW, I have been after RoG for years to do a 1970s vintage BMW 2002tii - the car that essentiually put BMW on the radar screen here in the USA. Licensing is the issue there, which is one reason you don't see a lot of new BMW kits - they just want too much for the license. M-B isnt quite as bad, but many people wondered why Revell USA announced their boxing of the SLS AMG and it never happened. The reason was very simple. Revell would have had to have purchased a SECOND license, this time from M-B USA, to export the kit and package it here. The parent company license didn't cover that kind of deal. Someday, either Heller (if they ever experience a renaissance) or RoG will make my longstanding dream of a 1/24 Facel-Vega HK500 come true...well, one can hope...still waiting for Italeri, Fujimi, Hasegawa, RoG, etc. to recognize that the Ferrari 250GT Berlinetta Lusso is just too beautiful NOT to kit....! Just my dos centavos, amigos. -

I'd like to see a new-spec Cinquecento (Fiat 500) tool as well. I liked the Fujimi kit, but it is not the current spec car which has been re-engineered for the US market and the changes have been migrated into global production. Possibly RoG, or possibly Tamiya or Hasegawa since the Japanese are NUTS about the car - but those kits will be pricey if they do make it to reality. -
What kit has a good Ford 427 SOHC?
larrygre replied to Patrick2005's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The SOHaCk motor in the AMT '33 WIllys is likely the best example of the engine yet kitted, except for the cam covers - and I have yet to see a set of 1/25 scale cam covers for that engine that get it right. -

Right on the Jo-Han Maverick. The original kit with Dyno Don's markings had the cammer only, not the 429 option. The later "generic" kit had both engine options. -
