  1. If those are my choices, I choose the "Emerald Green".....Cheers to the Guinness!!!!!! :D
  2. Truck looks great....don't let the bad eyes and shaky hands stop you, but I think a darker green is in order for "Celtic Pride".....maybe a nice "Kelly Green".....just my Irish opinion
  3. Started this one back in August, thinking I could have it done for the ITALERI Truck Contest. Should have known work and life would hinder my progress. Any way....I finished it a couple of weeks ago, but the weather has not cooperated to get good pictures, but today was absolutely beautiful, so I took advantage. The truck is the Italeri Freightliner FLC....back dated by using AMT Peterbilt headlights. Other than the headlights, it is pretty much built as per instructions with a bunch of added details. These include: "Scale Hardware" acorn nuts x 60 for lug nut covers, "Realleather Craft snaps for hup covers, engine and chassis are wired and plumbed using small guage wire and solder, the underside of the hood was detailed using a paper towel and white glue for the insulation blanket, small chains were used to hold hood in place, aluminum tube was substituted for exhaust stacks and extensive Bare Metal Foil to detail body and door trim. Paint is all Testors Model Masters Laquers....all the stripes are painted to match the sales brochure (Thank goodness for Tamiya tape) I took the pictures to try and replicate the brochure in scale..... Thanks for looking......
  4. WELL DONE!!!! Never forget our brothers who paid the ultimate price
  5. I prefer the looks of the first one...but since it has the drive axle up front, you gotta go with the second choice....either way....nice job, one bad A$$ looking truck.
  6. Check out Detail Masters for excellent pin stripe tape.....many colors and as thin as 1/64 in.
  7. This wasn't based on a 1:1. I had been train spotting a couple of weeks earlier and after the 3rd or 4th Union Pacific loco gone by....the idea struck me...
  8. I built this one to see what an Italeri kit was like...other than being 1/24 scale.... Built straight out of the box...with some extra detailing....antennas, "rookie poles" and air and electric lines. Painted with Testors Model Masters laquers to resemble a Union Pacific locomotive, decals are Microscale for a HO scale boxcar. Enjoyed building this one and have since purchased several other Italeri kits....
  9. Yup!!! I'm going with "well used....but never abused!!!"
  10. Now that Photo Bucket is cooperating....here are some more pictures....29/Autocar%20Wrecker/567A.jpg
  11. This is my second contribution for the "Tractor Trailer" Community build. Truck has been done, but due to Photo Bucket not playing nicely, pictures are just now getting posted. Started with an AMT Autocar dumptruck and lengthened the chassis (should have reinforced it a little looking at the pictures...I think it adds character!!!!) This was originally going to be made using the Revell Kenworth/ Century wrecker body, but I stumbled on a "First Gear" diecast 1/25 Holmes/Napa wrecker for next to nothing....so....plans changed. Stripped the diecast down to the bare wrecker body and found out the wheel well openings didn't match the spread of the rear axle set up on the Autocar. I then cut the wrecker body between the wheel wells and added a quarter inch. Filled in with sheet styrene and covered with Plastruct diamond tread. Autocar cab was built per instructions with some cab details added...two way radio on dash, radiator cap added to grill, swapped motors with a Diamond Reo to give me the turbo charged version...then added plumbing and wiring based on an Autocar sales brochure that I found.Italeri super single tires fit perfectly on the Autocar rims, sleeper cam from the AMT Peterbilt 359 kit. Also added the drawbar from the Peterbilt wrecker as the diecast didn't have anything. Added the correct tail lights to wrecker body using Evergreen tubing and "jewels" from the jewelry section at Michaels. All paint is Testors Model Masters laquers. White as a base...yellow and green stripes are painted...the red stripe is Detail masters tape. Extra details include the air compressor and torch setup from WT Garage. Wrecker details in back include, scratchbuilt traffic cones, step blocks and lumber, and buckets of absorbent. Antennas are fine wire and solder wire. Scratchbuilt "rookie poles" on bumper.... Thanks for looking.....
  12. If the Freightliner was sliding in under the wire on the deadline....then this one is skidding in sideways!!!! I will post a couple of pictures tonight with a brief description to beat the deadline for the build and to a more detailed description with more pictures in "Big Rigs" tomorrow. (My third build for the Community Build...Titan with a tanker, never even came close...Oh, Well) Anyway..back to this one... The end result is no where near the direction I started...but I am really pleased with the end result. I was originally going to use the Revell wrecker body from the Kenworth kit...for an "updated rebuilt" looking wrecker. Then I stumbled on a 1/25 "First Gear" NAPA Holmes wrecker on Ebay for next to nothing.....changed directions and I think you will agree...It just looks right. Started with the AMT Autocar dumptruck kit, lengthed the frame (probably should have reinforced it a little looking at the pictures) used the sleeper from an AMT Peterbilt 359 and the wrecker body from the diecast.
  13. Tires are the Good Years that came in the kit.....Paint wasn't too bad....had to think it in reverse, painting the stripes first...until all three colors were taped....then body color. Couldn't have done it without the Tamiya tape...makes all the difference. Getting ready to post an Autocar with a 70's thems to it...done the same way.
  14. Badluck 13, The air horn covers are the "baby moons" from the rear axles!!!! George
  15. You are only limited to your imagination!!!! Love the sewing section and check out the jewelry sections at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. Great source for chain, loops, and hooks....also some "rhinestones" make great lights....
  16. Tim, A photo backdrop/base is on my to do list, Thanks for the comments. mr46ford Strap winders are shoe lace eyelets, plastic rod and some "c" channel....don't think I have any pictures of in progress, but I will look. George
  17. I built this one about a year ago when I started building again after a 20 year absence from the hobby....( sometimes that being a responsible adult, working two jobs and raising two kids just gets in the way) I used a Round 2 reissue and built it straight out of the box..... Added details include plumbing and wiring the engine and chassis, A/C lines to the rooftop unit, antennas and some cab clutter (I had to trim some of the interior tub out to fit over the air cleaner, so the "folders, paperwork and roll of towels" hides the hole between the seats), I used BMF on mirrors and made spot mirrors by using a hole punch and .040 plastic. Painted with Testors Model Masters Laquers, most of the chrome was striped and entire truck was weathered with ink wash, artist pastels and acrylics. The landscape load is 1/4" bass wood to make a bundle of landscape timbers and the potted plants are railroad foliage planted in brown clay stuffed in sewing thimbles painted terracotta (gotta love the fabric?sewing section at Wal-Mart.
  18. Just posted this in the Community build..... OK.....Here I come....sliding in under the wire....truck has been built for a while....and even got a first place at the IPMSNOVA show last month. The problem has been "Photo Bucket" and my lack of computer savvy. Enough whining....on with the model, The truck is the first of the three that i signed on for...Freightliner COE and Fruehauf flatbed. Started with a Round 2 reissue, built straight out of the box. I found a Freightliner sales brochure and wanted something a little different, so I chose the "Oxnard" ]paint scheme. Painted with Testors Model Masters Laquers and clear coat, stripes are painted...gotta love Tamiya masking tape. Black pinstripe between colors is from "Detail Masters" Added extras include some plumbing and wiring on both the engine and chassis using small wire and solder, I also closed in the back of the steps on the cab and used "Scale Hardware" acorn nuts on the front wheels to dress them up. I also added weather strip around wheel well openings and used "BMF" to dress up a few things. I joined it with the reissue of the Fruefauf flatbed, painted the same green as truck chassis and light gray. Extras on the trailer include, scratch built tool box, spare tire carrier, strap winders and step ladder. The "load" are small cardboard boxes covered in paper towel soaked in white glue and painted with acrylics, rolled tarps are the same. Straps are ribbon from the sewing department at Wal-Mart Thanks for looking....

  20. Who's got 1/25 scale tires with a decent mud and snow tread on them....nothing too aggressive...but more than the AMT tires have. Specifically looking to fit AMT's American LaFrance 5 hole wheel. Everything at SourKrauts says it is sold out. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance
  21. Planning on coming....do you have to be affiliated with an IPMS Chapter to enter?
  22. Cats and models, oil and water, fire and ice...yeah....just doesn't mix. My cat knocked my current WIP off the table one day while I was at work. I came home and found it crashed on the floor and I got the big doe eyed look "What did I do??" Set me back about a week. Love the cat on the Cat....
  23. I know how the whole life and being a "responsible adult" thing gets in the way of building. My thoughts and prayers go out to those struggling in these tough times, and hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Don't give up hope and don't give up building...what great therapy and a great way to unwind in the evenings. I haven't posted pictures yet...but have been steady building...half way through the second entry...I will take a break from building and try to figure out Photo Bucket (It doesn't like the size of my pictures and I got frustrated) KEEP BUILDING!!!! Happy Holidays to everyone. :D
  24. Yup!, Just finished the yellow, re-issue....no short frame rails....anybody need extra nuclear waste decals!!!!!
  25. Count me in on this one...just sliding in under the wire. Put me down for: 1. Autocar heavy wrecker 2. Freightliner COE dual drive with a flatbed 3. Titan with a tanker I'll post up picture first chance.
