This is the other car I built for the Spotlight Hobbies B-Body Buildoff of February 2011.
There is a personal story behind this build. My best friend, Brent Dixon, built the very car you see here back when the kit was first issued. After languishing for a quarter century in the attic of an old tin-roofed shed (you can image the heat, cold and humidity it must have experienced) I found it and many other builtups that the two of us had done back i the sixties and early seventies as teenagers. Mice had burrowed into many of the cartons and nested there so I needn't elaborate on the fact that what was recovered needed seriously cleaning, lol.
Brent was gracious enough to give me a bunch of our builds (lucky for me he has long since moved on to the 1:1 model car world) and I began bringing them back home in the mid nineties. This ones paint was stripped long before I had a camera to document its condition at that time. It had been painted gold, with a black top and red #22 decals as it was built as the Nascar version.
It was painted using Tamiya TS-42 Light Gun Gray and clearcoated several times. The 'R/T' and 'Charger' symbol are of Keith Marks origin as the original emblems were long gone. This was also my first attempt at emulating wood grain interior appointments. Not too shabby, but at least I learned what doesn't work.
I hope you enjoy my effort as much as I enjoyed resurrecting this old friend. Thanks for viewing.
