  1. Does anyone have a recommendation for a semi-gloss black spray paint in a can? I had been using Tamiya TS-29 and I love it, but my local hobby shop hasn't been able to get any in for two months. I think Tamiya is reformulating their paint. Any suggestions?
  2. Very impressive!
  3. I believe that you are right about the stressed plastic causing ghosting so I don't think that the circle dots that are showing through are even deep enough to have to be filled. What do I do if those spots do not need to be filled? Would you still use liquid cement? What kind of liquid cement would you use? Should I still use a filler and what kind of filler should I use? I have tried Testors contour putty as a filler but it sucks and is completely useless. Do you use the filler after you prime? Do you prime again after the filler has been sanded smooth?
  4. I tried it on the hood of the car without a primer the second time and I'm still not satisfied with the results. Should I try the primer again? If I do use a primer, should I spray the color coat right over the primer without sanding the primer first? I'm afraid the sand scratches on the primer would show through. What about those spots I mentioned on the trunk area? There are two round dots that show through because the plastic on the underside of the trunk are the spots where the chassis attaches to the body. How do I keep them from showing through? I appreciate your help.
  5. Even the very fine scratches are showing through the paint color. I sanded the bare plastic down to 12,000 grit. It was smooth, but not like when you polish out a paint color. It still has very fine scratch marks that are showing through after I spray the color. I tried painting just the hood of the car to see how it would look. I didn't use a primer the second time. I read that a lot of guys spray the one coat Testors without a primer and they have great success with it.
  6. Does anyone have a system when using Testors one coat lacquers? My problem is that I did some rough body sanding before priming with Duplicolor primer. Then I used the one coat lacquer, but all of the scratches shown through. I stripped all the paint and tried again. This time I sanded all the way from 800 grit through 12,000 grit on the bare plastic. The plastic was fairly smooth when I was done. Then I painted just the hood without primer to see how it would look. I only gave it one coat so far, but you can still see even the fine scratches. It doesn't look that good to me. How can I make sure the scratches don't show through? Should I shoot a clear coat over the bare plastic before I paint my color? How do I make sure the scratches don't show through? Another problem I noticed when I painted the car was that there were spots on the trunk that show trough because of the way the plastic was molded on the underside of the trunk. How do I cover those spots so they don't show through on the top side of the trunk when I paint the car?
  7. Why would I have to do that?
  8. Thank you for your reply. Shouldn't the color coat be sprayed over a white primer though? Spraying the color coat over the gray primer makes the color coat too dark, don't you think? I have used Model Masters lacquer over the Duplicolor primer before, and it worked fine.
  9. I bought a 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner kit by Revell on e-bay. I am assuming that it is molded in orange plastic. If it is, I was going to prime it with gray Duplicolor primer to cover the orange plastic and then I was going to use white Duplicolor primer to cover the gray primer, because I was going to use Hemi-orange Model Masters lacquer as my color coat. If the car is molded in white I do not have any issues, but if it is molded in orange how should I handle it?
  10. What do you guys use to prime over plastic that is molded in a color? I use Duplicolor primer out of a spray can. Will Duplicolor gray primer cover the colored plastic? I was going to prime with gray first (to cover the color) and then prime over the gray primer with white primer before I spray my base color. Will this method work?
  11. Nobody has any advice?
  12. I read on here somewhere that after you mask off an area, in order to spray a different color, that you can spray a coat of clear over the masked edge so you do not get any seepage. I'm am using Duplicolor spray paint color and Duplicolor clear. Both are in spray cans (not an air-brush). The area that has to be painted ( roof of the car which is supposed to replicate a white vinyl) only has primer on it now. The area that is going to be masked off (the body of the car which is red) is already painted and cleared. Is it a good idea to lay down a coat of clear over the masked edge before I spray the second color? If I do spray a clear coat first, will the second color (which is white) cover over the clear without any problem? Should I spray the coat of clear over the whole area that is going to be painted or can I just spray along the masked edges or will that be noticeable? Thanks.Rick.
  13. I have a spot on the trunk of a car I'm doing now that needs to be fixed somehow. The car is painted with Duplicolor spray paint from a can and Duplicolor clear from a can. The car came out great except for that one spot,( It got screwed up somehow when I had that section masked off so I could spray the roof of the car a different color) so I would like to avoid having to redo the whole paint job on the car all over again. The question I have is, if I can mask that section of the trunk off along the panel lines can I respray the color coat over the clear coat that is already on the car now or will that not work? It looks like some of the spray from the roof color got through and ate through the paint. I rubbed it out with Scratch X and it made it better but it is still noticeable. Can this spot be fixed or do I have to strip the whole car and start over( I hope not)?
  14. Thank you for the advice.
  15. Does anyone know where to get decals for the Revell 1:25 scale '69 Dodge Charger kit? The decals that came with the kit are just disintegrating when I put them in the water. They must be very old. The kit box says copyright 1998. I have put in an order for a new decal sheet with Revell online.I want to know if there is a place where I can get the white bumble bee R/T stripe and the thin white stripes for the tires in case Revell can not fill the order. Actually I would like to know where I could get stuff like that even if Revell can fill the order. I do not think Mike's scale speed shop has them, but I could be mistaken. The Mopar decal combo set that they offer for $18, does not have what I'm am looking for in it. I know this because I bought that set for a different car I was doing. Any help or information would be much appreciated.
  16. Thank you. They did have them.
  17. Does anyone know where I can get R/T side stripes in white for the Revell 1/25 scale 1970 Dodge Challenger? The kit comes with black stripes, but I would like them in white.
  18. Absolutely beautiful. The Cuda is my favorite car of all time and your work is spectacular. I aspire to build a model car that looks that good someday.
  19. I love it.
  20. I was wondering how you guys handle decals that cover panel lines. Do you cut the decal, or do you just cover the panel line and try to make them form? If you cut them, how do you go about doing so without making them look ragged or ruining them? Do you have to wait until they are dry, or do you cut them when you are applying them and they are wet?
  21. Thanks for the advice. The trick with the wax cleaning up mistakes might really come in handy.
  22. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Your '62 Impala looks awesome by the way.
  23. Awesome.
