I will most definitely post pics if/when I get it. It all depends on the current owner who lives in Alabama. I already have four tires lined up for it (so I can at least roll it around) in case I am able to snag the deal. I'm trying not to get too excited yet, though.

Because I got the info 2nd hand and haven't talked to the current owner yet. All I know about it is what I've already shared, and that it's somewhere in my immediate area. I'll find out more particulars when I talk to the guy that owns it.

I may be able to pick up a 1964 Thunderbird for $1000. It's been stored in a garage unregistered since 1980, and was literally driven by a little old lady during the 16 years it was in use. Don't know whether it's a coupe or convertible, nor what the mileage is, but it's never been wrecked, and is all original. I guess this is the closest to a "barn find" as I'm gonna get.

That's gorgeous. I was thinking of getting one of the Fujimi kits.

Cool! There are only two other kits available that I know of - one is 1/24, comes from MFH, is resin, costs $345, and has received some pretty poor reviews. The other is from Marsh Models and is 1/43 (also resin), and is about $60 (or $300 if you want one already assembled/painted). I hope I do this one justice (I already have a 427 Cobra donor kit). I don't understand why one of the manufacturers don't do these cars. There are no legal entanglements, and there are plenty of cars available to conduct research and measurements on. I hope Academy's coupe is decent, but I don't know what to expect - I've never seen one of their kits.

Got it, and replied. That's gonna look really nice sitting next to the Accurate Miniatures Grand Sport I'm gonna build. I've never done resin before, so I hope I don't somehow screw it up.

Wow, GREAT builds there. My problem is that the 88C is 1/24, and none of the rear-engine dragster kits are. However, I have a Glidden Pro-Stock T-bird that will be contributing the tries, wheels, and engine (so it's going to be a pro-stock kinda deal. That leaves the trans/rear or as you suggested, a transfer case. I was thinking I might be able to get a transfer case from a suitable Indy car or rear engine super car. If anyone has any ideas with regards to the transfer case (or trans/rear) in 1/24, I'm all ears. BTW, the transfer case idea is a good approach because the car is so wide, I can probably fit the motor between the tires, even with the headers on it.

Sounds good. If you have any rear-engine dragsters, I'd appreciate pics of those as well. Google images ain't too forthcoming on the pics I need.

Well, it *is* just a mock-up at this point. I put the scoop on there just to give an idea of where I plan to mount the engine. I think it's the scoop I'm going to use, and if so, the front of it has to come down to a more appropriate angle, and I was thinking of blending the back in with the body so it looks like it's all one piece.

IThe 88C cars are wider than street cars, so I don't think any kit chassis made will be a good fit.

I have a real hard time visualizing the size of scale stuff. Is it possible to post a pic next to tires that come in your typical muscle car kit, say a Mustang, Camaro, or otherwise? I would also think this tire would be quite useful for 18 and 19-inch wheels that come on the newer cars. Finally, are you also going to make wheels that fit these? When they're available, I'll probably order a few sets right off the bat.

Yeah - the Hasegawa kit. I wanted to do something a bit... different. The only problem so far is finding a rear-engine dragster in 1/24 scale. I think I'm going to have to settle for a 1/25, and cut the trans/rear off the motor and graft it onto a Boss 429...

How about a rear-engine pro-stock Group 88C prototype? Of course, I'll have to completely scratch-build the chassis, and I'll need a donor kit (probably a rear-engine dragster) for the transmission/rear end...

What paint did you use? Looks like some sort of candy blue over a silver base.

I need pictures that show how the motor, transmission, rear-end look. I don't currently have any rear-engine kits, but I'm going to try to do something from scratch if possible. I looked on google, and couldn't find any pics of the drivetrain itself. Even if you have an assembled kit that you can take pictures of, I'd be grateful. Many thanks in advance.

What manufacturer are these?

With a modest investment in airbrush bottles, you could decant a rattle can and have several bottles of that color for a fraction of the cost. I think that's what I'm going to start doing.
