Anthony, That stake truck looks great. Did you scratch the body, or is it from the C600 Stake Kit?

Peterbilt 359 Interior Photos
Jim B replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Greg, Thanks, your truck was the "model" for my interior. I know it isn't exactly like your truck, but it was inspired by yours. Jim -
I've just attached a couple of photos of my completed Peterbilt 359 interior. Take a look. One's a little blurry, but I don't have the best of digital cameras. Trying to go for the Oxblood Red look. Not sure I got it, but I like it. Yes, the blanket on the bunk is Olive Green. When I saw it, it looked too much like my rack at OCS that I couldn't pass it up!

I'm looking to make some tractors out of the Ford Delivery truck, but my spare parts box is non-existant. So I'm appealing to my fellow modelers: does anybody out there have a couple of fifth wheels they're willing to part with? I'll need the plate, the fifth wheel itself, and the little do-hickey it sits on. One or two would be nice, four would be perfect! Thanks in advance! Jim

Revell 359 Snap tite
Jim B replied to rottin1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice. Are you going to shorten the frame? Dumb question, what did you use to chop off the sleeper? -
It's been so freekin' cold here in Syracuse, I'm sure Rochester is the same. Where are you painting? I tried the basement, but the paint stinks up the whole area.

Looks awsome! If you didn't know, you'd never guess that it's a snap kit. Great job. Hope mine comes out half as good. Jim

Caterpillar 3406A Detail Pics
Jim B replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks. Not bad for my first attempt engine detailing. I'm hoping to get some interior shots soon. -
Ok, I've finally done something with my Revell snap Pete 359! Here are two (2) photos (a bit blury) of my Caterpillar 3406A that I detailed. I left the fuel & oil lines silver for the photos so you could see them better, but the engine will be painted gloss white, and the transmission semi-gloss black. Currently what is missing are the fuel lines to the tanks, the air lines to the wet tank, and the valve cover breather tube. So it was a lot of work for a snap together kit, but I've never detailed an engine before. Know what? It was a lotof fun, and I learned some new tricks. Cannonozed a few Italian Saints, too! What do you think? 3406A Driver's Side Detail 3406A Passenger's Side Detail

Detroit Diesel 12V71
Jim B replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Bobby's 12V71 wasn't offered through STS. He said that he had some, and they were $10 (US). Guess he's got them at the house or something. -
Wow! They've got all sorts of stuff don't they. Very cool!

Looks like it's going to be a cool "rod". What's under the hood? Looks like a Cat.

No problem. You've got to work, too, right? Thanks, take your time. No rush. -

Detroit Diesel 12V71
Jim B replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks for the info, guys. I'll have to check into the Revell Wrecker. Not sure where to find one. Again, this is a project for the distant future. As far as an aftermarket 12V71, I know that Bobby Griffen offers one. It's not on his Website, but I confirmed on another board that they are still available. -
Detroit Diesel 12V71
Jim B replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Casey, Don't hold you breath! I suppose you coud say that it's a hypothetical truck right now. Currently I stuck on my Snap Pete because it's too darn cold to paint anything. Hasn't been above 20 for three weeks. Oh well! I guess I'll start a new project & paint when I can. -
Tim, Any time!

I stumbled onto this video in You Tube the other day. Apparently it is a Kenworth W900-somthing-or-other with a Detroit Diesel 12V71 under the hood. Now on the top of Page 39 in the soft cover version of "Building Model Trucks" is a Peterbilt with a simillar paint scheme. I always thought it was a cool looking 359, but I wanted to do it as a Kenworth W925. Long prolog, but here is my question: the AMT KW W925 comes with a Cummins straight 6 engine, would I need a bigger radiator for the DD 12V71? Also, when did the DD come onto the market? Would I have to "update" the model to a W900B or W900L? Enjoy the video! Don't forget about the Dodge Bighorn!

Revell Peterbilt Wrecker
Jim B replied to Turbo590's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Kurt, STS caries a Hendrix Caterpillar 3406 for $12.50. I've never used it, but it looks ok. Looks cab deceiving though. You'll need to scratch pullies & belts. -

Greg, I'll take whatever you've got: engine, sleeper (mine's the small 36", but I don't know what the walls are supposed to look like), cab. The engine on the model is a Cat 3406A. What's under the hood on your truck? I really appreciate it. You can PM me if you want to. Jim
