how often do you pay full price for kits?
martinfan5 replied to Ryan S.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would agree with that, but most of the LHS here dont carry any of the aftermarket stuff, most do have a good selection of kits , its really nothing special. If you are wanting old hard to get kits, or just older kits in general, they are not the place to look . The only thing I really find the LHS good for is for buying paint, and supplies , thats it for me, but thats me, and how I feel. -
I will do one last update sometime tonight before I have to start packing everything up, its going to be a long week from sunday to thrusday with out the interwebs

martinfan5 replied to Agent G's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well the only other thing out there would be wax, I say go for it, I have not wax a model, I did buy wax to use on them, just have not done it yet -

I have no idea why Greg, what LHS in town are you talking about ? -
Harry, are those programs you listed vector based?, I asked a guy who makes decals if could makes some decals for me, well long story short he said that the art work would have to be done in a vector based program. Another thing on the Testor program, I read that it gives a very basic program, and if you have to spend more money to download more of the program to be able to use it.

Testor decal program is not a good program is what I have read, the program alot of people use is a vector based program, but I dont think it is cheap

This what I got today, I can tell you my order from Japan has still not arrived, dont think its going to The C6 R vette, and the flocking from ebay, I will tell you I paid way to much for the C6 R kit And this came home yesterday with my girlfriend, it was free!, she got it when she bought a new copier for her company, a $20,000 copier , great, one more thing to have to load in the truck

Good job on the flocking, looks good, how much flocking did you get on the body?, going to have to strip the clear coat? I got more flocking today, so now I can get the interior on the R8 done, and the 458 I am doing . I also pick up some paint, I got the paint for the Jag, and the R8, not going to say what color I got for the R8, you will just have stick around tell after the break to find out

how often do you pay full price for kits?
martinfan5 replied to Ryan S.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well it depends, but 95% of the time I wont, and even the times I do, I find ways to save money, for example, I sometimes buy kits from Tower Hobbies, I used their free shipping codes, still paying full price, but saving on shipping. Now I buy a lot of Japanese Manufacturers kits, and it seems like those are hard to get a good price, again I will find the best deal on what I want. I dont think I have bought a kit from a LHS in around a year. I know many will tell you that they do to support their LHS, which is great, I like to save money, I still buy all my supplies from the LHS though. Its so easy now a days to find the model kit you want at a much lower price then MSRP. -

martinfan5 replied to Platerpants's topic in Model Cars
Please dont take this the wrong way, but for one its hard to see any of the detailing work you did, and from what I could see, its just what you would call normal detailing, the engine compartment looks good, can you explain what all you did in detailing or post some better pics please . -

There is not set rules for model building, you have to what you think you are ready for, its not like school were you have to pass to move on to the next grade. I would say if you can do a clean OOB, then you should be ready try other things. Just build your models, and it will all come to you over time, you will learn how to build better models, you are young, you have plenty of time, just have fun, thats what really matters, well unless you are building contest builds -
how much paint and clear per model?
martinfan5 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Average size model car, if you do paint the proper way, two to three mist coats, then one or two wet coats. On the average I can get two models painted out of one can, sometimes three, but that is pushing it. -
Modelhaus Order Question
martinfan5 replied to 71drolds's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Modelhaus is one of the best reisn casters out there, you will get what you ordered -
This what I got today, I got a USPS notice to go pick up an item, then I got this kit, been trying for months to get one at a good price, paid $19 with free shipping I open it up, and find this inside listing http://www.ebay.com/...984.m1497.l2649 Now the listing clearly stated new kit, this is not new, this almost built with a 57 chevy body included, I am having bad luck now with model kits, I still have not got my order from Japan, it was shipped on the 8th I think And got the keys yesterday for the house, not buying it, just renting it

Did you thin it? -
Well, I guess I should start work on this, the Jaguar E type, this one might be a slow build , slow in my world . This one is going to need a lot a work, almost all the parts have some flash on them, I am not looking forward to this one lol. I think I am going to go with a green that is close to British racing green, its the same green I used on my Lotus Super 7 build. I dont think I will be getting any updates posted in tell next Thursday at the earlierst, this coming sunday is moving day, so its almost time to start packing the models up, but I wont have internet at the new house tell 6th of July , I do have my Blackberry, so I will check in as much as I can stand to on it

Here is another small update, all that I did was get the rear lightbar on, and the wip antenna, I cut off the antenna just above the spring, and used some craft wire in its place, but I cut to much off, so it looks funny. And I notice while taking the pics, that the rear lightbar is not level, ooopppss. And I put the white dome on the roof rack, It still needs some work.
