  1. I've kicked off building one of these, I always wanted one of the original issues but never seemed to win one when they popped up on ebay and was stoked when they reissued this kit even if it's missing the green windows. I'm planning on building it basically standard out of box with maybe a few little mods.

The chassis went together really well, nice and square after I removed all the mould lines. I painted it Duplicolour Magma red. I started assembling the engine and the diffs, making slow progress. I managed to get the cab and bonnet painted in Duplicolour Imperial blue.

It's been going together well just a little slow with other projects on the go as well.

Sorry about the iphone quality pics, I'll get some better shots over the next few days.

  2. I've kicked off another build and this time I'm building the '41 Willys gasser of Burns Brothers Racing. Before my love of vans took over I use to mainly build pre '48 cars and gassers.

The basis for it is the Revell Stone, Woods and Cook Willys kit. I've put one of these together before and they're a great kit, this one will be basically stock with a few minor mods and some wiring to make it look the way it should.

I've had some decals made for it by another forum member and cant wait to try them out.

Today I cleaned up the mould lines and laid some primer on it, aiming to get some colour on it tomorrow. (Silver)

  3. They'd be all buggy type things anyway.

It would be good to see them do as you guys mentioned the cars out of the first movie. The MFP cars, the Interceptor, the van and even Night Riders Monaro.

No one has done an accurate kit of any of them so far, Aoshima's kit is the most accurate out of them but even it's not the best in the accuracy stakes so a few new issues would be great.

  4. If you have a big collection, sell them all now or anytime before you die. Then put all that money in a savings account. If you want, pretend eBay is YOUR personal stash, only you have to pay storage fees. Then, when you want to get a kit from "storage", pay for it on eBay from the savings account. Chances are, you will have a lot more money and less pressure on your family to rid a garage or storage room of all those models.

Plus, you can constantly post about all the kits you "have" "in storage".

Exactly, great way to look at it. I've thinned mine out and kept the things I can see myself building in the next 5 years. Makes it easier for the wife to sort through should the worst happen.

The problem I've seen is when someone dies, someone gets in early while the widow isn't thinking straight and offers her a ridiculously low figure and cleans out the whole lot and resells them for their actual worth. At least if you thin them out while you're still around you can get what they're worth or a fair amount instead of your wife getting ripped off and getting $2 a kit.

  5. I'm really sorry for what you face. You're right, and it's just another thing to cope with as you face much greater issues. Leaving family especially kids is awful. Please know you and family are in our thoughts and prayers. Recover from your surgery, and I hope it is an early stage, no mets, and treatment responsive. Please PM me anytime, have been there with wife and now me. All the best for all of you. You can do it.

Thanks very much Lee, it is a battle mate but one I'm not about to give up on. I've had most of my liver removed, my gallbladder and a few other small bits and pieces, I have an appointment next week to discuss starting my chemo.

It's a long way from over but hopefully I'm here for the long haul.

    Cheers and thanks again.

  6. After finding out in Boxing Day I have liver cancer I've had to make arrangements to sort through my stuff. I had major surgery two weeks ago and before I went in I told my wife what was to happen to my models and added it to my will. My collection of van models, van memorabilia and full size vans go to my two sons, my wife wants to keep my built models and anything not van related I told the wife to sell off or keep for the boys it's her choice. It's something everyone should think about, anyone that has a huge collection of unbuilt kits should consider thinning them out before they go I think that way your family won't have to deal with it or get ripped off when they sell them. No one lives forever and after being told I've got cancer I can't see the need to have 500 unbuilt kits I'll never live long enough to build, think of your family and make some dollars to put into something more useful.
