where to buy flocking
SFC_Allen replied to SFC_Allen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Guys, wow thanks for all the responses. Seems i've been asking about the wrong item and might have more luck using "embossing powder". At least now i have a few different places to find it online also. Thanks again Earle -
Nice...looks great

So i did a quick search for "flocking & hobby lobby" hoping to be able to find my answer...but no such luck. My question is does anyone know where on hobby lobby the flocking is? I asked 3 sales people and they all had different answers. One said it was a holiday thing and the others just lead me around on a goose chase. I walked up and down all the isles and i know that most of the hobby lobbies are set up in the same fashion. I tried Micheals and they only had the Martha Stewart glitter stuff. I'm trying to not buy it off the internet so i can save &&&. Thanks in advance Earle

Screwed up paint job/ orange peel?
SFC_Allen replied to SFC_Allen's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks, printed that out... now to try and apply it. Your right that dull look is killing me...so i keep sanding...maybe i should have stopped. Another question though..what will strip 2-3 coats of clear coat? Oven cleaner won't work Thanks Earle -
hobby lobby models
SFC_Allen replied to SFC_Allen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks guys. I did talk to one lady but as route66 said "she just puts out what she gets". It always seems that there is at least one person that some how always knows what the big box stores are getting on every forum...regarless of the type of forum Hopefully they get some of the upcoming kits but at the same time keep the Monaco and snap Impala kits VR Earle -
Does anyone know how to tell what HL is going to stock? Seems mine just got in a bunch of sets but nothing new for revell. I want to find the tow truck and love the 40% coupon. Thanks Earle

Screwed up paint job/ orange peel?
SFC_Allen replied to SFC_Allen's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thamks guys. I tired to wet sand but it just kept the dull color. So now i'm about to strip both of them and start over. I normally spray about 6" away, so how close do i need to be to the model? Thanks again Earle -
Screwed up paint job/ orange peel?

HO, thanks for the comments. SO when you wet sand does it always look "dull & ashy"? I rinse the car real good and give it lots of time to dry but after it still looks dull, like the Implala looks in the top pics but on the full body. So if i spray clear coat on the monaco as it stands right now as you say, then wet sand..will that get rid of that "texture" look i have right now? Thanks again Earle -
Ok, so i screwed up the paint job on the Texas DSP Impala and i really don't want to repaint the Florida HP monaco. So i painted like i should have (or so i thought). Primer, light mist coat, light mist coat again. Next day wet coat, waited one more day then wet sanded from 3600 all the way to 12000, put on some meguiars ultimate compound then added meg's scratch x 2.0 (not a great shine but it was something) added another wet coat after this. Waited a few days and then hit it with Krylon gloss clear coat(same as the blk & wht paint i used) and this is were my project went wrong. It started to dry dull in area's, so i did another wet sand and hit it with another wet coat of clear. Seemed to come out fine at first but not really sure what happened....When i did the wet sand everytime it always leaves it dull looking and the guy (who i really don't care to talk to anymore) said that i should keep sanding until i see it become clear. I never did that because i thought i was sanding all day. Then i noticed the paint on the hood cracking/raising up after the second clear coat. What in the world did i do wrong? I didn't wetsand my first model i did a few weeks ago and the clear coat came out fine Also here is my FSP car. Is texture that they call orange peel? I sprayed once then wetsanded and put another wet coat over it and it's pretty smooth. I'm really liking this car so far but i don't want to mess it up any further. I was hoping maybe i could put it one of our local shows whenever it comes around again. Thanks for any help in advance...Earle

Guys, now I'm really stuck on the interior. I'm thinking the dark grey might work better. Just because I'm going with tan for th fhp.

Thanks Guys

Oh and i need to figure out how to use bare metal foil. All of the window trim needs that also. Thinking i'll pratice on one of my crown vics first.
-
Well, seems as if the paint did't come out to bad. Just need to clearcoat then decal. The work the interior some more. Might try and mess with the engine but not really sure how to do that yet....maybe this is my learning model VR Earle

Rattle can + cooler air
SFC_Allen replied to SFC_Allen's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks guys, i might try the warm the body up first. Will wait to see when the paint cures VR Earle -
Thanks never really knew that, i was thinking of flat blk for the Tx DSP. Might go well with it Earle

The blank one (not pictured) has the red (clear center), the CHP is Blue/red (clear center). The sets in the charger are all clear. Hope that helps. Earle

Started the Gl Blk, was having issues but i nugged through it and hopefully these will turn out fine and i can clear coat them. Made the small antenna (that you can barely see on mat) for the Tx DSP car. Started the interior for the FSP, kaki brown, so i hope it looks good. I couldn't find no real good pics with the interior for this or the Tx DSP.

Went to our local Ollies and found a bunch of Crown vic's, then to the LHS for the Charger and off to Michaels for the Impala. The crown vics were only $8.99 so i thought that was a steal

If i use a rattle can (gloss) and let the model sit outside to air dry and it's cooler, will that cause the paint to look dull? I've painted outside when it's colder but i've put them in the garage to dry and they came out looking good. I did 3 coats before i even noticed I keep the can inside before and after i'm done. I'm hoping that if i shoot it again and bring them inside to dry they will look fine. Thanks Earle

Polishing and clear coating
SFC_Allen replied to SFC_Allen's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Stu, thanks going to have to try and start that tonight VR Earle -
On two tone paint jobs so i wet sand/polish before i clearcoat each color or just clear coat then wet sand/polish the clear coat. All i have is the small sanding blocks up to 12000 and scratch x right now. Not really sure what order to do it in. On my monaco i sprayed then wet sanded and the paint got dull, I thought about wet sanding somemore but i had to fix the areas that i left bare. So when i resprayed it came out pretty good so i left it. Both of my current builds are two tone right now and i would rather not mess up and have to restart the painting again. Thanks in advance Earle

Thanks, found the scratch X along with biege for the monaco interior. They didn't have anything by 3 m though. VR Earle

Not really sure why i started 2 at a time but hey seems to be going ok right now. The Impala kits are easy to work with and i have decal sets that go perfect on them. Not really sure if i need to clearcoat then wetsand the Impala before i lay on the black. Any pointers??? The Monaco was wetsanded and it looked dull to me so i sprayed 2 more coats on top and it seems to look pretty good to me now. Still have to figure out where to buy the 3m polishing stuff and scratch X. Will post more as i get through it. VR Earle

While i was at TRU yesterday i noticed they had the Revell Star Wars snap tite kits in that section. I asked someone if they had any other models around but they said no. Not really sure if he knew what i meant though. Has anyone else seen this yet? I know it's only star wars but maybe TRU is going to sell other vehicles also. VR Earle
