  1. I am a drawer, painter and most of all a wood carver. I havent built a model in 20+ years. Wow has the hobby changed, for the good I might ad. Instead of just posting as I get started I wanted to draw the car first. I used the drawings supplied with the model as a basis. I am using the Revell 49 Merc. I have always loved them and would dream of owning a 1:1. Anyways on to the kit. And what I want it to look like. I have not finished the drawing yet and probablly wouldnt but my son wants it when I am done. I have started the kit but will post pics a bit later. this is my FIRST attempt at an on the bench project and I am not used to taking pics as I go so I will do my best. Here the drawing. Let me know what you guys think.
  2. Thanks for the tips. I LOVE this site.....and the guys that participate in it!! I have the 49 ready to go again, but this time I think I will do a colored drawing of what I am trying to do and go by my drawing and see how that works.
  3. Ok it was the testors enamel, the purple did not fail, it was also very quick I wasnt expecting results so fast. Now Im ready to start over and not make the same mistake.
  4. LOL.....LOVE IT, at least Im not alone on some of the same things. I have one now that is sprayed with testors and needs to be striped. Im not sure to use though. When painted with Testors which is best to use to strip it?
  5. I would love to hear some of you guys that have been into building for a while. My father and i both use to build yearssss ago and I am just now trying to get back into it. MAN.....the leaps that building has taken over the years. I am amazed at what i see being done now. Anyways, Would any of you guys give us a step by step as to how you start and what steps you take next......Not asking for details on each one, just the steps you take. Like First hing I do is wash the model,Next I paint parts I know that are going to be painted, then I ...... next i...... something along these lines.
  6. I have used the Purple Pond to remove some of the crappy pant jobs I have done. BUT I have noticed it doesnt remove Tamiyas paints. What do you guys use to remove Tamiya paints. Also I just did a paint job on a 49 Merc that I am thinking about removing and trying again due to a blotched taping job. Will the Purple Pond remove Testors rattle can paint. Not sure if it makes a difference but Im not spraying it from the can, I use the straw method and remove the paint and use it in my air brush. Sorry for being so long winded, hopefully it all came out right.
  7. WOW......I love the idea completely. I remember the excuse to use now if my wife ever finds a pair of panties that arent hers. Honey honestly they are for the new model I am working on.............YEAH that'll work. Great work man, Im gonna love following this one.
  8. Looks great, I am working on the same one as I type. Not sure Ill add all the decals or not. I have a couple of other monster trucks that I know Im not adding the decals on them.
  9. looks schweet to me!!!
  10. Im learning alot here. My how the hobby has changed in 20+ years. It looks even more exciting. When I have something ut together worth post I plan to get into posting some pick, again thanks to all that make this website what it is.
  11. Oh and Christine with a tag KING on it would be cool. I have so many cool idea and limited funds and time. But soon as I can get back into the hang of it Ill be posting some pics!!
  12. Dude I think that would be crazy great idea. Ill be following this one. I want to get a theme going with my models. I want to build any cars that have been used in movies and such, At least the more popular ones. I would love to do the mad max but that model is really hard to find. I thought about using a mach1 model and calling it the US version of mad max. Best wishes and keep us up to date on the progress.
  13. I am new....well kinda I built models 20+ years ago and all I can say is WOW. this hobby has reallt came a long way and I have a lot to learn all over again. I see accronyms that i dont reconize. BMF not sure about. Anyone that could make a list of what they are and what they stand for I could save to favorites unntil I get use t the terms......until then Stickit2gether!!
  14. Well hopefully I may be able to salvage this body. I put it in the purple pond.....that stuff is great, thanks to everyone here how has recominded it. Now I just have to fix the roof. I has wrinkles in it from the paint thinner. I think with a little putty I can find it.
  15. The tape I was using was the green "frog tape" I like it as it doesnt leave lines as bad as normal masking tape. I picked up some PP today and I have it soaking to see if it can be rescued, Ill keep yall updated.
  16. I put it in paint thinner and let it sit over night. It ate into the plastic. Luckily it is just the roof that it ate into. With some sanding and some putty I think I can still salvage it. At least I hope I can.
  17. Can I use a primer and then do my final paint job using airbrush paints? Or will it make the paint peel? I am asking as the air brush paints that I am using once applied and allowed to dry, when I tape it off and paint it, then when I remove the tape it pulls some of the paint off. I have washed the model and I have sanded it before hand. I am pretty sure I have done all the proper prep work. Now I just want to use a rattle can primer and then paint them with my air brush. Any help on this would be great, thanks in advance. STICKIT2GETHER PS I just wasted a Revell Muscle 06 Mustang GT, so if anyoone happens to have a spare body let me know I would be interested.
