  1. After the first washing and sanding, then you apply the primer. Now I put first coat of paint, do you guys sand inbetween coats or not?
  2. This next build Im doing is of the first love of my life. My very first car. I had seen it sitting in an uncles field and had been parked there for years. We bought it and my step dad and I brought it back to life. I am looking forward to building this one and the memories it brings back. I will be building it a little beefer than mine was. Mine was not bone stock but I will go beyound what mine was. I will be building this one the way I always dreamed I could have built mine!! I am starting with the AMT 1971 Ford Mustang Mach1. I can tell it will need to be readied as it has some amount of flash and mold lines. I will TRY and take pics as I go. Wish me luck as I am not as skilled as some of you guys, but will do my best.
  3. LOL....thats what I am doing is working with the airbrush getting use to it again. I have got to put in some time with masking as well. Thats where I need the most practice.
  4. Very interesting methods. Looks like I have several to try on my days off!! Thanks guys!!
  5. Nick probably tan. It is to match my 1:1 Bronco.
  6. I love working on the paint jobs more than anything. As you can tell. each one has a story I will tell as I get them on the bench. Next up though I think will be the 55. Heres a preview: Well there ya go. Im looking forward to working each and everyone of them.
  7. Think this completes the interior not to bad I dont think It REALLy looks better in person. Pics mades it look bad.
  8. Ok that is a pretty good explanation. When I try it Ill post pics and we can see how I do. Now to find some styrene sheets.
  9. How do you cut open the doors and then not end up with toooooo big of a gap when you hinge them back on?? I want to try this but I am scared of the gap left behind after cutting them out. Looking for advice.
  10. Looks great. Even its stance turned out great,,,,,, nice job!!
  11. Ok after reading here some last night Im a bit confused......after decanting do you still thin the rattle can paint before using in an airbrush?
  12. Scalenut......Dude it looks like you got your hands full. Checked out the site and looks like you doing some great work. Sky.... That little guy is tough looking. Ill have to be sure to get me one. Now that I have seen it if I had to do mine over again I think I would make the stripes wider like they are on that little guy. Thanks for letting me know about it.
  13. Ken, I havent seen them yet but I will be looking next time i go in. I just love the look. I had a 1:1 railbuggy and had it painted the same way.
  14. I still have a fwe more stars to paint in and some touch up work. A little more shading but I think it is starting to look pretty cool. Should be good to wet sand by the time I get home in the morning and maybe I can add more of the details.
  15. Ok so this morning after work I couldnt sleep so I got back on it. Funny, pics shows ALL the flaws you dont see with the naked eye. I see some areas I need to touch up, but all in all for my first more complex paint scheme I dont think Im doing too bad.
  16. What else can be said about this build that hasnt already been said. Inspiring!!! I am sure that everyone that is keeping up with your build is coming up with new ideas themselves, Thanks Darren for this build and getting use of a few more of my brian cells as i try and think up a new project!!!
  17. Wasnt sure about this one to begin with BUT Dude your pulling it off so far. Your ideas are great as well, I cant wait to see what all else you come up with. I love themed models anyways!!! Build on!!!!!
  18. W-409 & EH225M< I agree about the wires being a bit out of scale, it was the best thing i had close at hand. Scalenut Have you done any tuitorials here? I love doing the painting and stuff but the masking I suck at it. Plus any tips on the best type of tape to use. Now I did try some Frisket? paper on this paint job. It was what I used for the ripped out areas. It held great, stayed on throughout the paintiing. I have soooo many painting themes but man when it comes to masking them is what stops me. I can draw them out no problem, but masking kicks my butt everytime.
  19. This is an inteteresting build for sure. Im learning alot about the car that i did not know. Ill be watching this one, it is looking great so far.
  20. Looking good so far. It does the heart good from time to time to do a box stock model.
  21. Here is how the motor is turning out so far. Still have more detail I would like to work on though. As well as the frame, needs more detail work. Just wanted to update you guys and see what kind of feedback I get. Dont be too rough on me Im just getting back into it.
  22. Well I chickened out on making the stripes of the flag wavey. Just the painting and taping of it was tough enough as is. Other than that for my first attempt at a more complex paint scheme worked out pretty well. this is just a mock up as the body is just sitting on the chasis. I will also be adding pics of the motor, for now the Caddy motor that came in the kit will stay in it. Maybe later Ill add the Ford/Mercury motor. So here is where it stands, I still have to go back and mask and paint all the shading on the flag. But you can see about how it is going so far. Hope you like ad yes Ill listen to any advice: And yes I still have to go back and add the stars but there ARE going to be added.
  23. By the way Ill be calling this one "Ragged Ole Flag" Thats why it has the ripped and torn look to it. Drawing it was one thing but putting it on the model may be another.......we will see
