Ry4ns302 replied to VictorSmalls's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you search the word turbos a thread comes up referring to a guy named I believe (Schucky), theres a link to his page in the thread. Shopping for some turbos for myself I found his selection IMPRESSIVE! -

Well here's the car that got me into models. My goal is to replicate it as exact as I can:

You forget the little stuffed animal hanging off the rear bumper! Just kidding...muscle car guy, had to rag somehow. Really clean job man! The engine bay is flawless..down the the brake lines.

This is maybe the 5th time I've looked at this thread. I can't keep quite anymore, I have to give respect where it is due. I havn't been on here for long (or been building for long) but I do believe this is my favorite model build so far! How will you ever top this?

Is it gonna stay AWD? My father has a 1:1 typhoon, this is pretty interesting to me, I'll keep watching it -
Thanks for the warm welcomes all! The first oops I ran into was figuring out the driveshaft goes OVER the transmission crossmember. I definately would have preffered to figure it out before gluing the springs, shocks and contorl arms down...lesson well learned! No matter what, before gluing major assymblies to the car, do a test fit. The biggest problem was that the glue strips the paint off everything! Is there a glue that doesn't? After looking at the model, on my next one (with exhaust tips) I think I'm gonna drill out the ends of the tips with a pilot bit so I can get some realistic hollowness...just a thought

Hey thanks for all the feedback guys! I like the part of building what you can't afford to build 1:1, I will definately have a nice collection!

Well this is the first time I've ever attempted to build a model car..a quick history, if anyone acually cares: I own an '84 mustang, and decided to build a model of my car. I've done alotta work to my car so of course it looks much different than the model kit. I wanted to build an exact model, so I embarked into the model car world. I located and immediately bought 3 of the monogram 83/84 mustang convertible kits. One from a guy in my car club who is doing the same thing. He put me on to this forum. I wanted to start building my model, But I figured I'd do a practice run before I started it. Since I've been here, I'm amazed at some of the work I've seen..especially the junkyard models. I immediately wanted to track down the resin parts to customize the model, but I decided to stay "out of the box" and get a feel for things. I fell in love with the hobby immediately, and I stopped at a local hobby store and bought a Grand National, since its a similar era car...and to be honest, minimal exterior trim, plus I like 'em. So here goes the progress, I have to fight my impulses to keep it 'stock", but I think I'm gonna get some Weld-style wheels and slicks, thats down the road. Hope you enjoy the build as much as I am.

definately nice build, the bottle looks real good too

Good choice man. I'm on my first to, I chose a Grand National. What color is the car gonna be?
-
Well either one of two NHRA classes..depending on the final weight of the car (assuming full interior), a super stock, or depending on the motor (if you go wild) super street, I'm pretty sure the NHRA website breaks down the classes. Either way, the build looks good, and even though I wouldn't drive a "so-called DONK", a clean model of one is pretty sick! Alot of customization goes into those cars, alotta labor..it only makes sense to build a model of one. I like a clean street car more though....Good luck with the build.

The link sends me to some epoxy companies, is there another way to find the supplier?

First Post. This thread got my attention to the point I felt I needed to speak up. THe only reason I got into model cars was to build a car that replicates my acually mustang. I'm building a few "practice" cars now until I'm confident enough to start the build. Anyhow, I would be EXTREMLEY interested in those M/T Drag Radials...particularly for a 15" wheel, maybe to the tune of 275/60/15's, but any of that tread would work. For anyone with the ability to make this happen I would definately be willing to pay enough for the cast to be worth while. Just some food for thought, maybe its an old, dead thread but I figured I get in on it. Thanks, Ryan.
