  1. You sure are on a roll Al. Another nice one.

Thank you Rich. The weather has been so nice and I have a lot to restore and besides, I had to get some done to make room for the 2 Moebius Ford pickups and Revell's Del Rio that will be here tomorrow.

  2. Here's another ebay gluebomb promo brought back to life. This one was in pretty bad shape when it arrived, but it was only $13.00, so I think it was worth it. This was molded in off white and was missing the glass and the front and rear bumpers. I got the bumpers from The Modelhaus and the rear and side glass were cut out of clear sheet plastic. For the windshield, I used one from my parts box and it was from a 65 Riviera and it fit as close as I was going to get it. The body was primed with Dupl-color Red Primer and then painted Dupli-color Medium Quasar Metallic and then 3 coats of Testors Wet Look Clear. The interior was done with Tamiya's Semi Gloss Black and the glass was tinted with 3 light coats of Tamiya's Clear Blue. BMF, The Detailer Black Wash and The Treatment Model Wax finished it out. The roof was crushed at the front, so the front pillars had to be straighten as much as I could without breaking them, not the best up close, but can't see them from my house.

I think it came out OK, but let me know what you think

  3. Thank you very much guys. I had this kit for the past year just sitting in my closet waiting for the right color paint. I don't use an airbrush, so trying to find this color in a spray took some time. The paint chart I have shows this GM color is a perfect match.

Bob, your right on the rareness of this kit. Every once and awhile, one comse up on ebay and most are out of my price range. The 69 was never offered in a promo form and this body style (66 thru 69) were ever done in a convertible form by AMT. I can't think any customs or any other butcher jobs AMT might have done to distroy these tools. One can only hope they're still around.

  4. This is a model of my own favorite car. I had this car when I got married back in 1983 and kept it until we moved from Chicago to New Jersey in 1988. It was triple dark green and was loaded to the hilt, 460, power swing out vent windows, AM/FM 8 Track and dark green leather interior.

After many years of searching for the AMT kit, my friend Dave had an unbuilt one in stash and we worked out a trade. I painted this Testors Fathom Green Metallic Lacquer with 4 coats of Testors Wet Look Clear and 3 very light coat of Tamiya's Clear Blue to tint the glass. The model was built box stock, with the exception of the wheel covers. Since my 1 to 1 had the optional finned wheel covers, I found an almost exact match in AMT's 70 Impala kit. Lots of BMF, The Detail black wash and a set of AMT's Parts Pack Firestone thin white wall tires went on my replica.

It's always great when you can build a model of your own car and I can now display it proudly for my enjoyment for years to come.

    Thanks for looking.

  5. Very nice! Great job polishing out the paint. Great idea, now that I know this works, I'm gonna give it a shot!

Thank you guys. Alan, most of my shiniest paint jobs were done using Tamiya's military or semi glosses and polishing them out, just remember to paint a couple more coats so you don't polish though.

  6. Wow, that is really nice! I've always had a soft spot for 60s compacts and have quite a few to do.

But 3,641 built cars? Is that a typo? ;)

Thank you Mike and Peter. Peter, that is not a typo. It took 56 years, but I have 3,641 built models in my collection with about 2,600 on display and another 150 restorations in my works in progress, the rest are in storage. But all are insured. I'm disabled and I really enjoy bringing old models back from the dead.

  7. I got this one from fellow modeller Dave Wood for restoring a 65 Mercury for him. I sanded all the scratches out and primed it with Tamiya's primer white and then I masked off the roof and painted the body Testors Phoenician Yellow spray lacquer and clear coated the body and roof with Testors Wet Look Clear. The interior was painted in a medium gold and the glass was tinted using 3 very light coats of Tamiya's Clear Blue. BMF was added and futher details were highlighted with The Detailer black wash. The body was then polished out with The Treatment Model Wax.

I think it captuers that moms not to flashy rides of the day look.

    Thanks for looking.
