1. Sounds like a creative way to fix the tires. I was thinking of a plastic cylinder to fit inside the tread area of the tire...just a different way of skinning the same cat. The dry sump tank looks great. The cap is just what I had in my mind's eye. It's in the right area...maybe not "exactly", but I also have no photos to verify. Richard
2. Hey, If you are upgrading the rear brakes to discs, I could uSe the type III rear drums for my off road race buggy model... They work great on my 1:1 buggy! LOL What are you using for the chassis in that TIII? It looks right, as though it fits...Where is the body from? A slot car vendor apparently...The body (especially the roof area), looks a little too roundish...but it is still cool. Maybe the chassis is from a diecast fastback? or maybe a Tamiya Ghia?
3. So what work was it that you did on the tires? I agree that in the later issues of the kit the tires were rather warped, that is why I suggested the resin ones by Jorgensen. How did you deal with the warpage? Also, what did you do about the radiator plumbing you asked about? I don't see any in the latest pics... And are you aware what the triangular piece behind the radiator is? It diverts airflow exiting the radiator out the openings in the sides of the nose...but more importantly, it is the dry sump oil system tank. It was made of aluminum sheet and should be bright silver...as in bare aluminum..not black. It should have a cap on the top (maybe machined aluminum or chrome steel) and plumbing to and from the engine. The Eagle is looking great! The effect on the gearbox and engine is great! Fabricated (scratchbuilt) pieces all look excellent.
4. Looks like lots of us DRM members think it's cool! Both of them Clint, doing some nice stuff there. Richard
5. So Andy...Since you taught Mark "everying he knows ( except his knowledge of battery installation! ", and he got on the cover with his off road race truck...You must know a lot about off road race car models!!!! So have you checked out DRM yet? .... LOL I have already congratulated Mark on his cover and the article, but I will 2nd yours as well. And you are welcome to come over and check out what we do over at Desert Racing Modelers. The folks over at the "other" model magazine couldn't be bothered to check out anything outside of their prior interests, although a numbre of members learned about the group through that other mag's forum. Desert_Racing_Modelers@yahoogroups.com Note: If you try to join DRM this weekend, you may not get approved until around the 1st as there is an off road race this weekend which some of the members are attending. 6. Door fits too well because this car while originally a hand hammered aluminum race car, it is now a $6-7million collecctor car which has been , like most such cars, wayyyy over "restored". If you look at details like: - around the air vents above the grille, the parting lines and fastener holes - the adjuster screws around the headlights - the bulbs in the back of the driving lights - the screws inthe lens of the side marker light... Many such little tiny details make me certain this is a 1:1 Ferrari. Richard
7. I logged on here to check a few minutes ago. As it opened up, my phone rang. A close friend was on the line who is into radio control planes (he currently is flying an f-18 turbune) and works in engineering for a military aero-space firm. HE asked me to guess where he was at..with no knowledge of my posts last night...He is at AAR!!! He was calling from a room where several race cars are on display including a later Olsonite Indy Eagle driven by Jerry Grant, and an IMSA GTP Eagle-Toyota driven by PJ Jones! AAR does production of composite parts for the aircraft my friend works on and he visits there on accasion. He says maybe sometime he could get me a tour...I had to ask that he remind me to take along a bib to catch any drool...LOL Now to your questions Ismael... You're welcome! Richard
8. Bob is right. The colors are blue/white on this Ferrari for the same reason as on the Cobra. They were the International Racing colors of the country the TEAM was from. In this case and the Cobras...the blue and white represents the United States, even if the car is a Ferrari. Such colors were required by international racing rules in those days.
9. Great build Ismael! My favorite driver is Dan Gurney. My favorite race car is the '68 Eagle. My favorite kit is the MPC '68 Eagle. It was an excellent kit when it was introduced and I built several. The re-issues show some tool age, but there are still very few kits as well done. MY 1st issue kits had pretty good tires, but the later ones got pretty wobbly. I believe Bill Jorgensen did a replacement tire in resin which looks just like the kit tire, but round and true. Note that the pointed ends of the rear radius rods where they meet the monocoque tub are really part of the tub. The pointy shape is the bracket which is riveted to the tub and should be painted to match the tub. The heim rod end fits inside this bracket/fairing with a bolt passing through vertically. The bolt ends and nut are exposed and should be zinc plate silver. Yes, the original color was a Ford color used in the mid-60s. My uncle had a '65 Galaxy in that same color. The decals include #48 and # 42. 48 was Dan Gurney's car with the Ford Windsor stock block, which finished 2nd behind the #3 Rislone Turbo Offy Eagle of Dan Gurney's buddy Bobby Unser modeled in the other version of this kit. 3rd in the race was Dan's Olsonite Eagle team mate, Denny Hulme in the #42 with the Ford Twin Cam. Dan Gurney's AAR Eagles finished 1-2-3 in the 500 that year. This is the only year that any model company other than 1/43 resin made models of the top 3 in the 500, and they also did the Lotus Turbine which was the expected winning car. The Eagles also dominated in SCCA road racing with John Cannon winning the Continental Championship in his 68 Eagle. Eagles dominated the Indy field for the next 10 years! Richard
10. Received mine in the mail this past week. Just checking out the kit and references. I expect to use some of the references in building mine.
11. So just to bug Jody with hijacking his deal...excuse me a moment , please... Just where is this 'Glass buggy site? I have one in the driveway for a friend, one in the backyard for me waiting its turn, a buddy who wants to sell one, another buddy who wants to buy one (but can't afford the 1st guy's), another buddy has a metal-body pre-fiberglass one which I just did some work on the other day (he needs the engine rebuilt)...I live in the California desert, where they are practical cars. Bugs, Bajas and tube frame buggies too... Back to the subject of this thread...I am wondering what engine is planned for this funny car. Will it be a VW with turbo? or a Hemi?
