Yes, I was somewhat offended(and I'm not easily offended) by the wording of the modeler's frustration with Modelhaus' decision to retire in the other model car mag. Everyone has the right to quit or retire at any time. Businesses close all the time(re: Revell USA). Some reorganize or are bought but some, especially small businesses are gone forever. Being here for several years, buying from Modelhaus and knowing the backstory of how the business was to continue and the tragedy that changed that plan, I was aware of what happened. I can't believe for one minute that the editors at SA didn't know and then allowed this to be published without any rebuttal. My subscription was due to be renewed but their handling of this one reader's opinion has caused me to not renew. Just my 2 cents.

That should work. I thought there might not be enough space to get a socket in far enough from the top. That is why I went with a stovebolt so I could use a screwdriver from the top. Try it. You'll be out about a dollar if it doesn't work. I had the stuff in the junk jar to use what I did.

I'm with Tom and Steve. I just can't sit and do a decent job.
-
I drilled mine out enough to fit a stovebolt and a locknut. It won't come apart and it will still turn.

Good call Mike. These are close enough for me. Thank you!

Those would be a very poor choice, as they have no lug nuts:
Which scale are you building in? 1/24 or 1/25?
Yep, those won't work with no lug nuts. I didn't even notice that.
The kit is the 1/24 scale AMT 1980 Ramcharger kit Casey. I hope you might have some suggestions.

For me the idal rims would be something that looked like the stock steel wheel with a dog dish hub cap. All that I have found have been for cars and they won't fit the kits 1/24 scale tires. I might be able to find some generic steel wheels with tires. But not sure where to look. Any suggestions of Resin casters that would have something? It would need to be a stock looking steel 5 lug rim with a stock sized off road style tire.
I know Mobius has something close in the Ford 4x4 truck kit, but no caps. I am sure I could find the caps through a resin dealer, but have not found the wheels.
You might want to check out Fireball Modelworks. He has a lot of wheels and tires and is reliable. I didn't find what I was looking for.

Thanks, J.C. I'll look around some more to see if I can find something a little cheaper than the Ford.

Please let me know if you find anything on the rims. I have been working on my Ramcharger turned into a 75 Plymouth Trailduster. I am almost done, but can't seem to find a rim that looks right for the truck. It is a Forest Service truck and chrome slot mags are just not right.
Great looking model, Scott.
I think I found them. I was looking on the bay and ran across a set in parts. They are off of the AMT '78 Firestone Ford 4x4.

It's not heresy to put Ford rims on a Dodge is it? lol
-
Yep, that's what the kit wheels look like. Thanks, Tom.
-
Tom, great job of detailing on the chasis. The rims in the kit are different from the white ones in the bottom pic, correct?
-
After checking for the Fire Fighter truck, the cheapest kit I could find was $125 which is out of the budget and I couldn't locate a fleetside bed reasonably priced. So I am going to go in a different direction. I'm going to make a Ramcharger Power Wagon instead. I found some pics of a '79.
I'm not crazy about the rims on this or in the Ramcharger kit that I can see. Where can I find a set of wheels and tires like these in the bottom picture?
Thanks for any help with this!

There is a die-cast model of the 1957.

Saw this at a car show in Rhinebeck NY last year. This one could probably be kitbashed. Started life as a Dodge Magnum. Notice how they changed the contour of the rear roof line without any body mods. you gotta appreciate the body work, whether you like the end result or not. I think the front end works better then the rear.
Of all the ones here, this one I might try to build one day. My wife says she would drive it. She really liked it. I do too.

Sorry if this topic offended some of you. It was meant to be a funny look at some really messed up cars, not a slam on your favorite builds.
I'll go back to lurking in the background now. Heaven forbid I should ever try to brighten your day with a little humor again.

You didn't offend me. I am enjoying the thread because I've never really thought about looking up mashups like these. It opens up the imagination which is never a bad thing(my wife says i ain't right anyway), even if I wouldn't even consider trying to replicate. If some are offended, so be it.

I like all of them too. Now, what make are #s 1, 5 & 6? I'm not familiar with these. My fav would be the blue-green Studebaker.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll check the bay and see if I can find them now that I know what to look for. Much appreciated.

It's not Dupli-color, but http://www.automotivetouchup.com can mix just about any color you'd like. Enter the year, make and model and a list pops up to choose from. You can order as little as a 1/2 oz up to a gallon. A 12 oz rattlecan runs about 20.00.
