The custom car world is all about building your vision. This guy certainly built his but, what controlled substance brought about that vision? A common question asked of critics of such cars is "How would you have done it?" I don't know how I would have restyled a 64 Riviera but I do know that THAT isn't it! No way, no how would that set of modifications have come to my mind; I've never done those particular mind-altering substances.

Okay now that we have that established - is there any kit that offers a Ford inline that would be appropriate in a Mustang model? We were just talking about this last night at my model club meeting.
JoHan original issue Maverick is the only one that comes readily to my mind. Ken Kitchen does a really nice resin one.

Everyone is free to decide whether to make a web site or not, as I am free not to buy a cat in the sack. Pictures would have helped me to avoid the disappointment I had with some of Modelhaus products, and have indeed assisted me in the decision not to order the above mentioned Caprice kits.
And who is Norm Veber by the way?
Norm runs Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland, one of the best! Of course, you'll have to deal with him by means other than a web site, so that may be a problem for you.

Well, I am wondering if some avid customers could come with internet galleries, why could not the manufacturer himself do it?
Because Don, himself chooses NOT to devote time and energy in a photographic website. I heard him say several years ago that he has more than enough to keep him busy. If it works for him, that's good enough. Do you rag on Norm Veber, too? He doesn't even have a website.

It was a J Lloyd project and apparently the new Hawk/Lindberg owners (Round 2) don't want to do it. J Lloyd was always long on ambition, but always short on cash. You have to complete a box mockup to get preliminary licensing approval from Ford, so that explains why they did the box first. Looks like they even got to the actual product mock-up stage. Who knows, they could have even tooled it up before running out of money. If that's the case, somebody could come along with the cash and release it, but it doesn't look like it'll be Round 2.
Maybe JoHan will do it?

i thought the bowtie already had a function...
to warn away potential buyers.
You are sooooo clever.

I would love to buy that place, unfortunately, MY winning numbers did not match THEIR winning numbers.

Ya, he's got a French accent because he's French, but , his driving skills are uncanny. And, on film at least he seems very unpretentious about it all. Like " oh ya I can drive ok I guess. He's just a natural that has honed his craft. I love watching him drive. I used to not like the fact that he was 'so' dominate, but , then I came to accept the fact that he's just that good.
Update: He retired last year! Oh no!
And did you see the video coverage of his last rally? Slippery road and .... upside down in a ditch! Ah, well! It happens to the best! He and his co-driver walked away, literally!

Alrighty then! This is the perfect place to relate an "abusing the system" story. This was related to me by the person who, at the time, was responsible for fielding the missing parts calls. Way back when Revell first did the 1959 Cadillac kit my friend got a request for parts that were missing from the "newly issued" kit in question. The missing parts were, as I recall, the tail lights, the tail light bezels (chrome), the wheels (chrome), the tires, the whitewall inserts and a few engine parts; basically parts missing from several different trees. This kinda raised my friend's "suspicious flag" (along with another thing that I'll relate in a bit). The requester had, generously, provided his phone number so my friend called him on the phone.
"Hi, this is so-and-so from Revell-Monogram. I'm calling in reference to your request for missing parts. We have a few questions."
"First off, we'd like to know where you purchased the kit."
"Uh ... at the hobby shop."
"Really? What's the name of that shop, sir?"
"Uh ... I don't know; it's the one across town."
"I see. Well, the reason I ask is that the the entire production run of the 1959 Cadillac kit is currently sitting on our loading dock preparing to be shipped."
"Uh ... <do something physically impossible> to yourself."
See, the kit had not left Revell nevermind gotten to any hobby shop. Seems to me that it wasn't too awfully long later that they quit sending out free "replacement parts."
Every time a "replacement parts" thread comes around, I remember this story.

Rally cars only do 120 mph?
On gravel. in the snow, over short hoppy hills, around switchbacks, with big trees instead of guardrails and on and on.

If donks are ever considered to be part of evolving I plan on being a caveman forever.
But, there ARE evolutionary dead ends.

Wow. What with carbon fiber offering such tremendous advantages in lighter weight and rigidity, I'm sure that faucet will supply one high-performance drink of water.
And look cool doing it!

Did you happen to actually read the article?
"Although it was never officially the Caped Crusader’s car, a Batman comics-inspired vehicle – designed and built by a teenager in the early 1960s and left to rot for decades in the back of a Chicago warehouse – has been brought back to its original crime-fighting form. Created on a whim by young Forrest Robinson of Westmoreland, N.H, its swoopy, triple-tailfin body was formed from fiberglass and mated to the chassis of a 1956 Oldsmobile years before George Barris sketched his iconic car for the Batman TV series."
Harry, if they didn't read THAT paragraph, they certainly didn't read the next one wherein is revealed that it was used as a promotional prop:
"It soon caught the eye of an All Star Dairy representative, who rented it from Robinson for a couple of years to use at promotional events for the company’s line of Batman ice cream and drink products." Thus, the Batman connection.

So, Greg, are you calling that 'pretty' or 'ugly'? Personally, I think the F-4 Phantom is one of the most testosterone laden, muscular and best looking fighters ever to cruise the skies! Of course, I could be biased; my dad (along with several thousand other guys) built them!

Star Models does show a 68 Buick Gs under R&R resin. starmodels.com Contact Steve Kohler at Star Models for availability.
Yes, R&R made one. With Ray's passing, does anyone know what the status of R&R is?

Yeah, Team USA didn't exactly bring home the gold. Or the silver. Or the bronze.
Did they at least get a participation ribbon?
Fortunately, from my point of view, the Olympics is not an "everyone's a winner" event

Like I said, it's not any one kit. It's many kits from many manufacturers. I don't want to call out any one specific kit or manufacturer. It's an across-the-board, industry-wide problem. Yes, one particular kit I'm working on now is what set me off... but the problem is widespread and definitely not limited to that one specific kit/manufacturer.
But, Harry, it IS one particular kit. It's the kit you started yesterday. It's the kit you're working on. Knowing that you gravitate toward large scale models, it's probably not an inexpensive model, therefore you kinda have a duty to inform the the world (ie. us) so we know, going in, what to expect. By leaving it intentionally vague, it's like saying "Everything you're going to encounter is going to be BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH and you shouldn't take it any more." And you're right, but it would help us to know; is this a new "state-of-the-art" whiz-bang $700 Pocher kit, an older Pocher kit or (heaven forbid) an ITC 1/10 (?) scale Duesenberg. Is it something that one would expect meticulous attention to accuracy or is it a kit that WAS originally marketed as a toy? Or is it, as I suspect, something in between?
-
And we still have no idea what kit Harry is talking about........
But the thread heats up, and I think that's was the whole point; DRAMA! Need More Drama!
-
OK, Harry, (boy, am I gonna get in trouble here) are you going to tell us what the kit is or is this just drama for drama's sake? Is it a kit that almost everyone knows is a mess or is it something we expect great things from? Why so vague?

Lessee ... totally new body, glass and interior components. Retooling of some chassis components and some engine components. I think it'd be best to start from scratch.

Scored a 95%. The GTSs threw me. I'm not hugely into Mopar; not that I hate them, I just don't know them that well.
-
I don't count the bad machine translation of Japanese into English as a "blooper".
But ... but ... some of those are CLASSIC! "Unglue this here". And who can forget the "American Violence" series of kits from (I believe) ARII ("Feel the rumble in your bowels")

After the numbers Manning put up this year, I really thought it was sort of karma that Denver would win the Superbowl.
Guess not...
But I never imagined a blowout like this. I don't think Seattle even imagined a blowout like this!
Whooda thunk it?
Manning even put up a few impressive numbers tonight. I believe he set a new record for completions in a Super Bowl? It was just, as a whole, Denver's Offense couldn't get a handle on Seattle's Defense. Pass completions, in and of themselves, don;t count for much when the ball doesn't go anywhere.
Am I bidding against you?

Probably, but how would you know?
