  1. Yeah, I guess it's ok... I mean, if you like ultra-detailed, masterpiece-type models... Just kidding, man! That's some amazing work!
  2. He's Joel Dirnberger... his work has been featured in Scale Auto Enthusiast in the past, years ago, but I haven't heard or seen anything from him in many years. And at the bottom of his site it says "this page last updated June 2003"... so it's been a while!
  3. Personally I've never seen a 1/28 plastic kit. So my guess would be... not so common!
  4. OK... time to wrap this baby up. A shot of the rear end... and a little later in the process... and the finished product: A few glitches along the way, but nothing too severe. I think it turned out well. These kits are definitely a challenge, and they can drive you crazy sometimes because of the complexity and the number of tiny parts... but if you stick with it and take your time (and I mean lots of time!), you wind up with a model that'll knock your socks off. The finished model is about two feet long and looks mighty impressive sitting on the shelf!
  5. Every Pocher kit has it's "problems"... it's just something you have to deal with when you build them, it's part of their "charm"... Actually, if you consider that most Pocher kits have between 1,500-2,500 pieces, they really go together amazingly well. Most of the fixes are pretty simple, really. I'm actually amazed at how well the kits are engineered, even despite the occasional goof-up, like the oil tank thing.
  6. Has anyone ever told you that you look a lot like that guy on the magazine covers...
  7. Don't forget to add your real name to your signature line.
  8. Bill Coulter just reminded me that "The Directory of Model Car Kits with Price Guide" is still available by contacting: Bob Shelton thedirectory@cinci.rr.com or: Bob Shelton PMB 140 3116 W. Montgomery Rd. #C Maineville, Ohio 45039
  9. There have been model kit price guides published, but of course the inherent problem with any price guide is that it becomes obsolete almost immediately, as values are always changeable. The best way to get an idea of what a particular kit is selling for these days is to look and see if there's one for sale on ebay... you'll get a good idea of where current prices are. 11. Yeah, that's the problem. There's no way to sort out the off-topic posts if you use the forum that way. Maybe if everyone remembered to begin their off-topic post's title with the words "Off Topic" then those who don't want to look at off-topic stuff will be spared, while those who do like it won't be shut down. Holy cow... a possible solution that could make everyone happy? Dare I hope???
  12. They don't necessarily do so... but it looks like they do because over there admin drops the hammer immediately! You never get to see the off-topic stuff because they rule with an iron fist. No so much here... we're a little more, uh... "accommodating" of people. And that's why a topic like this one, debating about how our forum should be run, is allowed to exist here. Because here we want the members to have a forum that they can all be comfortable with, and we encourage suggestions and "opposing" viewpoints that don't necessarily always coincide with the "company line"...
  13. Stock mufflers???
  14. You're such a pretentious snob...
  15. You can post any scales in "Under Glass," but the Big Boyz section is for the big scale stuff only... so us big scale modelers know where to find our favorites!
  16. You voted for OBAMA??? I should delete your membership RIGHT NOW, you sicko leftist!!! Just Kidding! Just Kidding!
  17. A 1/25 scale calculator would be about 1/4" tall! You're going to need a very tiny brush and a good magnifier to detail paint it! If you know how to do it, you could go a google image search, take a photo of a calculator and reduce it down to 1/25 scale... then cut it out and attach it to a tiny piece of styrene painted black or gray.
  18. 1. A transkit is a set of pieces (usually not a full kit) generally available from the aftermarket, that can be used to build an alternate version of an existing kit, or to add details not included in the original kit. For example, here's a transkit for a Pocher Ferrari that includes parts to super-detail the engine that comes in the kit. 2. Don't know.
  19. It was more than 7-8 years ago. Those models appeared in the February 1994 issue of Scale Auto Enthusiast. The builder was Dave Turner from California. I don't know anything other than what it says in the article, and all it really says about him is that he's a machinist.
  20. 99% of the time the concept of "self-policing" works pretty well here. There is rarely anything actually "offensive" posted here (at least as far as I define "offensive"), and when there is, it gets removed... but posts that are truly offensive (rude, vulgar, whatever) are extremely rare here. Political/religious posts are a little more common... well, they used to be, but since the issue has been raised and talked about here lately, those posts have also pretty much disappeared. Like Dave said, it's impossible to keep everyone happy all the time... there will inevitably be posts that pop up now and then that will offend someone... but for the most part it looks like you guys are doing a pretty good job of keeping the peace amongst yourselves. Which is a good thing, because Gregg only gave me the one bullet...
  21. How about this one? Real or model? The answer: MODEL!
  22. I guess it's all how you look at it. Baldwin/Motion and Yenko cars did not come "direct from the factory," they were special orders and the dealership actually added the stuff that made them either "Baldwin/Motion" or "Yenko" cars... GM never built a Baldwin/Motion or Yenko car, they were "dealer specials." But no matter... it's your build-off and you get to make the rules!
  23. Interesting idea, but you just contradicted yourself. Baldwin/Motion and Yenko cars were not "direct from the factory," they were "aftermarket" cars from particular Chevy dealers.
  24. "Trolling" is when someone posts stuff that's either intentionally off the subject, or posts something that's meant to get a rise out of people and cause a disruption... in general, when someone tries to horn their way into another person's thread for the purpose of disrupting it.
  25. And there's the problem. What is off-topic enough to be "off-topic?" Are joke threads off-topic? Are links to youtube videos off-topic? What about the economy and getting laid off from work? Is talking about the economy "political?" What about the status of GM and Chrysler? "Political?" Off-topic... or not? For those members who want this place to be strictly about model cars and nothing else... for those who tell me that this is a place where they want to get away from all the rest of life's topics, and who remind me that there are plenty of other sites available where almost any topic can be discussed, I would have to delete everything that doesn't directly relate to model cars. Like this very thread, for instance. For those members who do like a little variety, how "off-topic" is too "off-topic?" Do I keep some off-topic stuff going at the risk of alienating other members? I think the phrase "between a rock and a hard place" applies here. Looks like I'm in a classic "no win situation"...
