  1. Check these guys out... tons of 50s models, but the problem (big problem) is they have no photos of the kits. http://www.modelhaus.com/index.php?kit=1 However, they do have a solid reputation for quality products, they're generally thought of as one of the best in the (resin) business, if not the best.
  2. Tucker wasn't 50s, it was 1948, and there's a resin kit available from Modelhaus.
  3. I don't know who rates as a "superstar" here, but I do know that you did one heck of a job on this model... it looks terrific! I love funny cars from this era, when they still looked like cars, not "bubbles"... your model is extremely well done.
  4. Probably that no Mayan ever received a wheel of cheese for Christmas?
  5. Uh... the Mayans didn't have "Christmas"!
  6. Sometimes to make the big tires fit without cutting the car in any way. Otherwise, it was just a fad. In fact, before it was popular to jack up the rear of the car, just the opposite was considered "cool"... the front of the car was raised and the back end was dropped (many times by putting a few sandbags in the trunk). None of this had any actual reason... it was just considered "cool."
  7. How about it? Real or model? Remember... if the know where I got the photo from, don't tell! The answer: REAL!
  8. ok... the people have spoken. No more off-topic posts.
  9. Everybody's opinion matters here. We're all equal.
  10. Lots of photos here: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Cars-Trucks-/6...p;Model=Coronet
  11. Did you know that the first six holders of the "official" automobile land speed record were electric cars? And the seventh was steam powered! The first internal-combustion-powered land speed holder was the eighth one, and from then on the IC-powered vehicles were unbeaten... until the jet-powered cars came along.
  12. The easiest way to get pix of a '56 Packard is to do a Google image search. You'll find tons of them...
  13. Foiling is probably the one single thing that takes a model from "toy" to "scale replica." I'm sure you're glad you learned how to do it.
  14. Well, "Off topic" technically includes anything off topic.... religion, politics, jokes, favorite songs, crazy end-of-the-world theories....whatever. But I think what we're really talking about here is politics/religion, right? I don't think anyone is really offended by a "jokes" thread or something like that. I don't see any harm in "What's your favorite movie" type posts... It's the religion and the politics that seems to stir up the real trouble and offend people, so that's what we're voting on.
  15. This will definitely remain a strict "No fish" zone...
  16. More good reasons to drop it than keep it...
  17. Yeah, but like Bob said, if you participate here by clicking the "View New Posts" link, the posts aren't separated by section... it's all the new posts, regardless of topic... so you never know which of the posts are "off topic" or not. You can't always tell from the title of the post what the actual subject will be...I think that's what bugs some people. They click on a post and they find out it's about something off topic.
  18. Yeah, even I can see where that can get pretty annoying!
  19. I see where the trend is going here. Let's leave the poll open for a day or two, but I already can see what the verdict will be. Ah, democracy in action! It's a good thing!
  20. Most of it. It's much cheaper to do a lot of the stuff on a computer than to hire the drivers, buy the cars, set up remote location shoots, bring dozens and dozens of people and tons of equipment to the site, cater the shoot, buy the insurance, get the permits to block traffic, worry about the weather, etc. And the F&F movies are basically aimed at teenage gamers, they're not "serious" movies...so realism isn't even an issue–it's all about movement, action and flashing lights/explosions/crashes. Gotta keep the kid's attention span focused... for at least a few seconds!
  21. Ok, guys... as you know, the "off topic" posts pop up here every so often. Some of us like the give and take, others think we shouldn't be posting anything like that. Some of us are inspired, some of us are offended. In the interest of democracy, I'm asking you to vote! Should we have an off-topic forum for those who want to talk politics, etc.? Or should we keep this group of ours focused strictly on model cars and nothing else? It's your forum... You decide!
  22. Trade shows are important to all manufacturers. It's where they "strut their stuff," announce upcoming products and drum up interest among their distributors and customers. A trade show might not be so relevant to the end customer, but it's a critical interaction between the manufacturer and their customers (the distributors and retailers who will potentially carry their new products).
  23. Right you are (and the others who said the same thing). I was guilty myself of chiming in... I love a good political debate, but this is the wrong place. What we need here is a separate forum for us long-winded opinionated types to have at it without getting the rest of you guys riled up!
  24. Nice! The grille really sets off the model.
