Heart of Gold is my favorite Neil Young song, and actually one of my all-time favorite songs by anyone. I can even deal with his whiny nasaly voice on that song, it's just that good! And it also supports my long-held belief that every song that features a harmonica is a good song... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQfUz6lP2BQ

Listen, wise guy. Maybe you ought to knock off all the smartass comments regarding the way this site is organized. For your information, the whole trucks/pickiups thing was added BECAUSE OF MEMBER REQUESTS. Got that? It wasn't me "doing it my way," it was us responding to our members' request. Your problem seems to be that it wasn't done with YOUR approval, so now you never miss a chance to take a shot at me and/or the moderators. If this forum is so hard for you to navigate, I suggest you save yourself all of the aggravation and find a forum you like better, because we are NOT going to rework things here based on the desires of ONE particular member. Understand? There... a no BS response just for you. -

What I don't understand is this: we now have a section for pickups, like it or not. And you all know we have a section for pickups. So if you want to post or look at models of pickups, can anyone explain to me what is so almighty hard about just going to the pickup section? Is scrolling down a web page really that physically exhausting? -
Thanks to an alert member for reminding me that I forgot to add the gas cap! That will be fixed...

Remember, don't post any hints or answers here! PM me with year, make, and model. THe answer: 1934-39 Renault Viva Grand Sport

That's their choice. Nobody is telling you which sections to look at and which not to look at. That's up to each individual member. -

When we didn't have a separate section for pickups, people complained that we didn't have one. So we added one. Now that we do have a separate pickup section, other people complain that we have one. Anyone want to tell me the secret of keeping everyone happy all the time? -
The design is molded into the parts.

Getting going on the engine. First I built the basic block/trans assembly and sprayed the whole unit silver followed by a coat of Testors Transparent Black Window Tint... Then I brush painted the upper block and cylinder head semigloss black... On the real car the ignition wires are routed through a manifold to keep things neat and clean. No such part in the kit so I made my own using styrene U-channel...

Here's a slightly better look under the hood... but it's dark in there! Hard to see much...

This is the 1/16 scale Minicraft kit. A real pain. Imprecise parts fit, lots of flash and mold seam lines to clean up, and lot of very tiny and fragile parts that were a real pain to install without glue showing. I detailed and wired the engine, although once the hood is in place it's almost impossible to see in there anymore. Oh well... I also added the wiper and wiper motor, the dash mounted choke control, and a few underhood details that unfortunately are pretty much impossible to see now, because the hood only opens so far... it doesn't open up and lay flat on top like the real one does. Paint is Rustoleum "Sage Green" and Krylon "Shortcuts" black, the interior and top boot are painted with acrylic craft paint. I added the contrasting piping on the top boot with thread. The kit windshield was replaced with Lexan. If I could turn back time I would have gone with cream colored wheels, but too late now.

No. Future is clear acrylic. And it's not called Future anymore, it's now called Pledge Floor Care. http://www.pledge.com/en-US/Products/Pages/floor-care-finish.aspx

uploading pics from my PC- is there a cumulative limit?
Harry P. replied to fun9c1's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
This site only allows a very small amount of space to upload images directly from your computer, because this site is NOT meant to be a photo hosting site. Can you imagine the amount of storage space we would need if this site hosted all of the photos we constantly post here? The right way to do it it to open a photo hosting account, like Photobucket. Photo hosting sites are designed to do just that... host (or store) your images on their servers. Load all your images into albums on your photo hosting site, then you post the link to your photois here in your posts, not the actual photo. The photo stays parked on your photo hosting site's server, taking up their space, yet we can still see the image here in your posts because you posted the link to the image here, not the image itself. I have used Photobucket for many years, have hundreds (maybe thousands) of photos posted there, and still am at only 18% of my FREE account capacity. -
Box art and your decision?
Harry P. replied to Petetrucker07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Right, when we were kids. But this topic is a question about who buys a kit nowadays based on the box art, not how the box art influenced you when you were 8. -
Box art and your decision?
Harry P. replied to Petetrucker07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've never understood why anyone would buy a kit based on the picture on the box. That picture might be a photo of the real car, so completely irrelevant to what's actually in the box... it could be an illustration, so again, completely irrelevant to what is actually in the box. It could be a photo of the "actual model," so that might be a better guide to what you're buying... but who knows how much retouching was done to the photo? Or how much work went into "fixing" problems with the kit? "Never judge a book by its cover" is a pretty smart motto. -
You need to add the top boot.

Still haven't decided on body color, but I have decided to go with the rear-mounted spares as opposed to the fender mounted ones. The fender mounted ones break up the smooth lines of the car, IMO. Skip, I did see where 6-7 of these cars had the spares hidden under a cover, but scribing that circular seam line to represent the spare tire cover onto the kit piece would have been a real chore... so I decided to use the real panel with the open tire well... The joint between the body and that rear panel won't be a problem... long, thin chrome trim pieces go there and will hide that seam.

OK... it's been a while since I posted anything on this (I'm finishing up another model that's almost ready to go "Under Glass" and I have been working on that one the last few days)... but now, back to this big Benz. Cleanup of the kit parts is a huge PITA! There are mold seam lines, ejector pin marks, sink marks and flash on virtually every piece! I can't tell you what an unpleasant part of model building parts cleanup is. Hours spent making the parts look the way the manufacturer was supposed to make them look in the first place... Much of the engine detail is missing, and what is there is at best a pretty crude approximation of the real thing. I used my razor saw to cut away the terrible air cleaner.. I'll scratchbuild a better one. The new air cleaner base you see here is actually the pupil from a "googly eye!" I bought a bagful at HL a long time ago, because those black plastic discs come in handy for all sorts of things when you build in big scale. On the exhaust manifold, the triangular flanges that the flexible external exhaust pipes bolt to are completely missing, so I made them using sheet styrene: A lot of what should in reality be separate engine components are molded together in one big piece (like the photo above where I cut off the air cleaner), so I'll be relying on paint detailing to make it look like there are more separate pieces than there really are.

Looks like you have a missing gas cap.
