Shouldn't the Easter displays be going up soon? This is all part of "holiday creep." We used to have Memorial Day. Now we have "Memorial Day Weekend." We used to have Labor Day. Now it's "Labor Day Weekend." We used to have Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas. Now we have "The Holidays" one giant "holiday season" that stretches from Halloween to New Year's Day. Soon we will be in constant "holiday" mode in this country and every day will either be a holiday, a holiday eve, a holiday weekend, or a holiday season. It's beyond ridiculous. Maybe those slackers who have been leaving their Christmas lights up all year were actually ahead of their time!

A cop is sitting on the side of the road when he sees a pickup truck fly past him at high speed. The cop gives chase and quickly pulls over the truck. He is surprised to see that there are two penguins sitting next to the driver. The cop says, "You shouldn't be speeding around town with penguins in your truck. Take those penguins to the zoo!" The truck driver promises to do just that. A few hours later, the cop sees the same truck speeding past. Again, he pulls over the truck, and the same two penguins are still sitting in the cab. The cop says "I told you to take those penguins to the zoo!" The driver replies, "I did! They loved it! Now we're going to the movies!"

A cannibal walked into his local meat market, looking to buy some meat for dinner. He saw a sign that read "Special today on all brains!" The cannibal looked into the display case and saw the various brains on sale. Plumber's brains were on sale for $3.99 a pound. Carpenter's brains were on sale for $4.99 a pound, missionary's brains were on sale for $5.99 a pound, but politician's brains were on sale for $29.99 a pound. The cannibal asked the butcher why the politicians' brains were so expensive. "Are you kidding?," replied the cannibal butcher. "Do you realize how many politicians I need to get just one pound of brain?"

Two cannibals were simmering a clown in a big pot. The first cannibal dips his wooden spoon into the broth and takes a taste. He wrinkles his nose in disgust. "Here, try this," he says to the other cannibal. "Does this taste funny to you?"

Three guys had been stranded on a deserted island for years. One morning they find a magic lamp. The first guy rubs the lamp and sure enough, a genie pops out. "I will grant each of you one, and only one wish. Whatever you wish, it will be granted." Excitedly, the first guys says "I know what I wish for! I wish I could be back home with my family and friends!" "Your wish is granted," the genie says as the first guy disappears in a puff of smoke. The second guy couldn't believe what he saw. "Oh, yes! Me too! I wish I was back home with my friends and family." "Your wish is granted," the genie says, and the second guy also disappears in a puff of smoke. "Well?," asks the genie as he looks at the last guy. The last guy looks sad. "Gee, it'll be terrible to be the only one on the island. I'll be so lonely." "I wish I had my two friends back!"

Agreed. It's a pretty slick looking ride. This one in particular is visually striking with that beautiful body color and the cream colored underside. Very different and very cool.

Brett, I assume you posted your photo comparisons to show that mine is invalid. Fair enough. You may be correct. But just for fun, I added a few lines to your "legitimate" photo comparison. Just for fun... A. The point where the bottom of the rear glass meets the sheetmetal. B. The corner of the rear glass. C. The point where the roof meets the top of the rear glass. D. The point where the roof meets the top of the windshield. E. The front edge of the door. It looks like points A through D would line up if the greenhouse on the model was moved back. But I may be way off base.

Hey, if Dave says the model is correct, then that's great. If I was wrong, I was wrong. But like I said before, the time to hash this stuff out is now, not after the kit is in production. Thanks to Dave and Moebius for taking an active part in this thread. It's more than some other manufacturers would do.

Building season is back! 1904 De Dion Bouton
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
It adheres well enough to do the job. Sure, it will scratch off the bare plastic easily, but these wheels aren't going to be subject to any wear and tear. All they have to do is look nice on the model... -

Finally a little progress. Here's how I detailed the wheels to get them to look like wood. The raw kit piece glued to a length of scrap sprue "handle"... First step is to brush on two coats of acrylic "Ocher"... Next, the wheels are literally dipped into a can of Varathane "Golden Mahogany" wood stain. The stain sort of soaks into the acrylic paint and doesn't just bead up and run off (I use oil-based stain for this, not water-based). I let the excess stain drip off for a few seconds, wick any more excess away with the corners of a paper towel, and because the stain is oil based and would take forever to air dry, I put the dipped wheels into the dehydrator. Once dry, I snap off the sprue handles... To paint the black "steel" rims, each wheel is chucked into a variable-speed drill. I hold the drill steady with one hand, running it at a low speed, and with the other hand I touch the brush loaded with paint against the spinning wheel to get a perfect, clean, sharp edge where the rim meets the wheel. Of course, once I do one side, I flip the wheels and paint the rim on the other side... Finally, I painted the valve stems, and slipped the tires onto the wheels. Later on, the black wheel centers will be added, and finally the small brass center caps -
They had several big hits. Just Like Me, Hungry, Indian Reservation, Kicks, Good Thing.

But that Raider's Coach has always been ugly, IMO!

This has always been my favorite Raiders song:

I agree, this is one of the best looking big Fords ever. Add the '64 through '67 Galaxies to that.

No, not the revolutionary war Paul Revere. He's been dead for a while. The Paul Revere of Paul Revere and the Raiders. Dead at 76 of cancer.

I think you're the one that can't grasp the concept. There is no need to emphasize the "build" aspect. The fact that you have to build a kit isn't a selling point, it's a given. EVERY kit needs to be built. But not every kit is meant to be played with after you assemble it. The "play" part is the selling point.

Looks just about perfect to me! One of the nicest, cleanest, most realistic out-of-the-box models I've ever seen.

Remember... don't post any hints or answers here! PM me with year, make and model. The answer: 1909-14 American Underslung "Traveler"

What music mediums do you use?
Harry P. replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I used to be a total stereo geek in college. I subscribed to Stereo Review, I did a ton of research, and I put together the best possible system that I could afford. And all these years later, that same system is still here and still sounds great. Man, I really got my money's worth out of those components! In all these years the only "fix" I've had to get done was re-foaming the cones on the Dahlquists, because the foam had become brittle and cracked over the years. -

For casual listening, my computer and youtube. For "serious" listening: old school... the stereo system I carefully put together many years ago while in college (and spent a ton of $$$ on!), and I still have... Sansui TU9900 analog tuner, Crown amp and preamp, Denon DP 60L turntable, and Dahlquist DQ10 speakers. To play CDs I have a Pioneer laser disk player (it also plays CDs). I also have a "secondary" stereo system that is basically used as my TV surround sound system. I play the TV through that system, which has an Aiwa receiver/control center, a modern CD/DVD player (so I can play CDs on that system, too)... but the speakers are not the Dahlquists, they are a different set of speakers (a combination of Sony and KLH) that are mounted around the room near the ceiling for the TV surround sound. -
We've been having typical crazy midwest weather. A few days ago we had highs in the mid 80s... the past 2-3 days we've had overnight lows in the upper 30s and daytime highs barely in the 50s! The weird thing is, with all of this "fall" weather, the trees are all still 90% green. Fall colors are coming very late here this year.
