  1. I've read through this whole thing, and aside from one specific post that got a bit personal (and which I deleted), I haven't seen anything here that breaks any forum rules. Yes, things may have gotten a little testy, but that's what happens sometimes when people disagree. And we all have the right to disagree. Tim made his opinion known, his comments were perfectly clear, logical, and well-reasoned, IMO. However, that doesn't mean that others can't disagree with his comments. It's true that Tim is one of the iconic people in this hobby, and we're lucky to have him as an active forum member... but remember that everyone here is on an equal footing as far as posting your thoughts and opinions. I'm sure Tim would agree that a good discussion, pro and con, is an integral part of how a forum works. As long as no rules are broken (that means no personal attacks), I agree with Brett. Have at it, fellas. Just keep your comments within the rules of the forum.
  2. Not all of their snap kits are marketed as "Build and Play," only a few are. And those few are clearly being marketed as toys.
  3. Baby moons are a "little known" car fact? What next? A vinyl top exposé?
  4. So are the '58s the only "true" Impala?
  5. Isn't an online model car discussion board all about... wait for it... discussion? Obviously we all build models. But we also take the time to talk about them, and that's why we're here. Your workbench is for building. An online forum is for talking.
  6. Right. And all the more reason that Revell, or any right-thinking model manufacturer, would want to appeal to the kids. If not... once we all die off, there's nobody left!
  7. Yes, but the performance model was available.
  8. Amateurs.
  9. Maybe that's where they see potential growth for their products? After all... us guys building today aren't getting any younger.
  10. Never gotten stuck yet. Maybe I'm just lucky...
  11. Believe it or not, my Mustang GT is my year round car. I've lived here all my life (except for the first year, which was in Springfield, IL) and have never needed an SUV to navigate winter. Been driving since I was 16 and never once in an SUV.
  12. Are you saying you're incapable of doing what all of the rest of us can do? I don't think so.
  13. When you're 6' 7", it's not headroom you need... it's legroom. I'm not a "full size truck" or "SUV" sort of guy. I prefer sporty coupes...
  14. Exactly. If all the rest of us can do it, so can you.
  15. Come on. How hard is it to find your thread and update it? It makes zero sense to keep opening a new topic every time you have an update.
  16. Try finding a car that fits 6'7"...
  17. Hint: this was a huge hit in the '60s... "No, we ain't gonna fight. Only God has the right To decide who's to live and die."
  18. I notice you keep on opening a new topic every time you have an update. Wouldn't it make more sense to have one topic, and continue to update that one topic as you progress, rather than start a whole new thread every time you have an update?
  19. I disagree. The "play" is the selling point, and you play with toys. I think Revell means to market them that way, otherwise they would never have called them "Build and Play" kits. From revell.com: For three generations now, Mustangs have called Americans out onto the open road. Now, this SnapTite® Build & Play kit calls to the youngest of those generations. It's designed to be easy to build and fun to play with. It's the start of a whole new approach to plastic modeling. It's a kit designed to do more than sit on a shelf. It's designed for fun. It's designed to be easy for all ages. It's designed to give a whole new generation of modelers the thrill of having something that they made. Clearly these are aimed to kids as "toys" and are not meant as "serious" kits for adult builders.
  20. I think maybe you're missing the point. These kits are intended as toys, not "serious" models, and they are certainly not aimed at serious adult modelers. The "Build and Play" series is obviously an attempt by Revell to entice kids into taking up the hobby. As so many of you guys are always saying, the future health and viability of the hobby rests on the next generation taking it up... so why then carp when Revell is trying to do exactly that? Take these kits as "serious" models, and yes, there would be plenty to complain about. But you have to take them for what they are and remember who they are aimed at. If you do that, they make perfect sense.
