That's cool! Nice job. May I suggest a little black wash on the front and rear grilles?

If someone asked Art what his name was, do you think he could answer in less than three paragraphs? (just kidding, Art. I also like your history lessons). -
Ford Transit MK2 'British Gas'

That could almost pass for the real thing! Very nicely done. -
School bus question
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used to be an anti-belt guy too. I figured nobody had the right to tell me to wear a seatbelt. And I never wore it. Then one day I was hit head on by a minivan (long story, but it was the other driver's fault, not mine). Anyway, the airbag probably saved me, because without it I would have gone through the windshield for sure, But from that day on I have never driven a car without putting on the belt first. I learned my lesson the hard way. I guess it seems odd to me that we have one set of rules for people in cars and a different set of rules for kids in buses. -
School bus question
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If little kids can ride around in buses without wearing a seat belt (and where are the bus air bags???), why not the rest of us? Seems very hypocritical that we have a "cost benefit analysis" that says it's "not worth it" to strap kids into a school bus for their own safety, but everyone who rides in a car has to wear a seatbelt by law. A little inconsistent, isn't it? -
School bus question
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think it's ironic that we expect kids to wear a helmet when they're on a bike, but we think it's fine that they ride in a school bus twice a day without wearing a seat belt. In one way we're so overly protective, yet in another way we seem to be ok with "taking chances." Not saying belts in buses is right or wrong... just kind of funny how we are so inconsistent. -
Absolutely beautiful!

Wow! You got the steal of the century.

I guess that makes sense. Sort of. Maybe. -
School bus question

And as far as I know, no seatbelts in school buses. At least that's how it is here. What's up with that? We don't even let little Johnnie and little Janie ride a freakin' bike without a helmet. So why no seatbelts in school buses? -
Because you got it really cheap? Or because you paid a fortune? That's one Pocher kit I almost never see for sale. I'd buy it just because it would be cool to build a 1/8 scale truck.

Why, I oughtta... BTW... that was said in my Moe Howard voice...

School bus question
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The article said that "motorists reported" that the white roof made the bus easier to see. Without the white roof, a 30 foot long bright yellow bus just gets lost in the scenery... -
School bus question
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Seeing as how 99% of the privately-owned vehicles on the road are nowhere near as tall as school buses, I fail to see how a white roof would make the average school bus easier to see by the soccer mom in the Odyssey. And "easier to see?" A bright orange-yellow, 30 foot long bus isn't already pretty easy to spot??? It's the white roof that makes it visible? I can buy the "white roof keeps interior cooler" idea, not so much the "oh yeah, NOW I see it. Thanks, white roof" idea... -
That's pretty funny. Even Casey will tell you that he locks more threads or deletes more comments than I do. In fact, for the longest time I kept getting a ton of PMs complaining that I was too lenient and didn't clamp down enough! And these days I get PM after PM complaining about some thread or another that was locked... and it wasn't me that locked it! But lucky me, I'm the one that gets the complaints.

You make a lot of good points (and a few lame ones). So let's go over the good ones. Aside from the fact that you think it's best to ignore me, the fact is that you're right when you say that I have seen a lot of nonsense here over the years. If I had kept every PM from every member who had a problem with this forum, or how it was being moderated, or why I did this but not that, or the other guy asking why I did that but not this... I could have a pretty hefty book by now. The simple fact is that there is no way possible that I ((or anyone) can moderate a forum in such a way that everyone is always happy. It's impossible. Period. Dealing with angry members is just part of the job when you moderate a forum. Sometimes they have a valid point, and when they do I have always tried to concede that and make appropriate changes. But believe me, by far the biggest number of complaints I get are from people that just have an ax to grind, not a legitimate complaint. So yeah... dealing with all kinds of cranky people over and over again does get on your nerves after a point. However... I don't think that Gary had any legitimate reason to complain about my reply to him. I laid out the reasons why adding more forum sections won't work. If he didn't like my reasoning, fine... he doesn't have to agree with me. But saying I "belittled" him and made him look stupid is a little over the top, isn't it? As far as his comment about never again posting any ideas... we never said people shouldn't post ideas. In fact, I think this forum is more open to member ideas than many other similar forums... yet we still get complaints. Again, that "can't please everyone" thing... And finally... if you (or anyone) posts an idea or suggestion, and we say it won't work... believe us when we say it, and don't take it as some sort of personal slam. I'm not in the habit of shooting down good ideas, but I will say no to ideas that by virtue of my experience moderating here, know won't work.

We have two basic sections for trucks: Big Rig... and Pickups, Vans, and light commercial. A bus is obviously not considered a "big rig," it's a commercial vehicle. It fit best where I posted it.

School bus question
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, white isn't all that far from yellow. Probably more of a theoretical thing than a practical thing. -
How so? It's an "everything else" category... a catchall for all the stuff you guys build that is not either a car or truck. Like Casey said, this forum is primarily a model car (and truck) forum, so we concentrate on that. The "Other Models" category was put in place as a courtesy to those who also build "other" models and would like to share them here. If you think it's such a mess, why not just ignore it? Nobody is forcing you to either look there or post there. If you don't like it, that's fine. Just ignore it.

School buses have heat, I guess they don't have AC. -
1910 London bus
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks, Art. I did add a bit of additional detail and scratchbuilt bits and pieces, but even straight out of the box it's a nice model. -
The problem with adding more sections is that many people don't pay any attention. I have to move posts constantly because people just don't care about posting stuff where it's supposed to go... they just post where they feel like it. Those are the same people that wouldn't pay any attention to separate areas for Japanese cars, etc. As it is, I already have to do way too much babysitting here and move things to their proper place. The last thing I need is even more separate sections that nobody pays any attention to. And we already have a section for military... It's called ALL THE REST (In the "Other Models" section) and has been in place for a long time. See what I mean about people not paying attention?
