What's Your Cargo?
Fabrux replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The VW Beetle camper was actually a kit car. You can still get the plans for it! -
Flat-top LoneStar?
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Now that looks cool! I bet the LoneStar's fairing could be cut down to cover that hole... -
1962 Chevrolet Resin Bodies

I wasn't really looking necessarily for a formal roof, just something other than the bubbletop. -
Flat-top LoneStar?
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Basically all I would do is cut the cab like so... But then the sleeper would just look weird. I think I'll just end up building without the upper fairing. -
Sneak peek at new project
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yeah, the body work still has a way to go. The wheel wells are still where they're supposed to be... -
Just wondering if anyone has seen or if it would even be rational to have a flat-top LoneStar. Basically it would look like older style Western Stars that kinda look like a day cab with a sleeper added. I hate the look of the Lone-and ProStars with those huge fairings on them... but I was pleased to notice in the kit and seeing some builds here that it looks a lot better without the upper fairing on. I got the idea in my head to chop it all off but it probably wouldn't look so great...thoughts?

I'm finding that it really depends on the paint what you use to strip it. I used Super Clean almost exclusively up until about a month ago when I had a body painted with Testor's One Coat that sat for 3 weeks and nothing came off. I tried brake fluid instead and it finally started coming off, but not completely. I may look into 90% alcohol with another body that I have that was painted with nail polish (several times in several colours...sigh). I also found that, on bodies that were painted without primer, brake fluid strips only the paint away and leaves the plastic shiny like it came out of the box whereas Super Clean tends to eat away at the plastic a bit.

@Mike: I already have 2 of the Bel Airs with the bubbletops. Looking for a hardtop roof on a Bel Air.... exactly what @Jeff posted...awesome! -
AMT Dually Super Single Rear Tires

What would one use for rims for this setup? I'm interested... -
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a 62 Bel Air body with a formal roof? I know there is the Revell 62 Impala, and Jimmy Flintstone makes a 62 Pontiac Catalina bubbletop, but did anyone ever make the result (ie Catalina's roof on a Bel AIr)?

Why were there no GM aero cars?
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ahh, that's it, then. After 1963 GM backed out of officially supporting racing endeavours, including NASCAR. They didn't get back in until 1970. -
EFI? Its about time NASCAR caught up to the rest of the racing world. Let me guess: you hate road races, don't you?
-
Maybe someone that knows more NASCAR history than me can answer this. I was reading up on the Ford/Mercury and Dodge/Plymouth aero cars of 1969 and 1970 and the thought occurred to me: how come GM didn't build one? One could argue that the later Laguna S-3 was their attempt at an aero car, but why so late? What would a 69/70 aero Chevelle look like?

The slip of paper mentions a specific part number. IIRC that paper was in a bag that was only the trailer (I can't remember and mine is all out of the bags now). Perhaps the trailer is a Revell Germany kit? Edit: The '857250' section of the part number includes the kit number '7250'; perhaps the whole thing was put out by Revell Germany for some reason...

Today I received from eBay a 1962 Ford pickup that needed more work than I thought...ah well. Yesterday at my club meeting I picked up the latest MCM issue, the 1976 Gremlin X kit, and a 2000 F-150 Harley Edition kit (minus the Harley).
