  1. Has anyone tried using these in a build? The look pretty good and at the price they beat most resin engines...
  2. Looking good! In thinking back about the example I posted above, I believe the builder may have started with a NASCAR kit...does that sound right?
  3. Sorry, I only have a 62 and a 63. On the prowl for a 60, though. One of these days... As for the 51-52, I think you need more than just the grille as the opening is wider than a 48-50. As you can see here, the hood is a bit different, also. In order to get the grille to fit, you may be able to modify the front of a '50 F-1 using the grille recess from an AMT '53 F-100, Monogram '55 F-100, or a Revell '56 F-100, whichever fits the best. The '51-'52 grille and dash is available from Ken Kitchen. He doesn't have a price listed, however. And I don't know if he still makes them as the album as last updated 7 years ago...
  4. I would say that the cost of making a new tooling has dropped considerably in the run of our hobby. Back in the day, you needed artists to sculpt the tooling by hand from a sculpted example of the final kit. These days, the kit is constructed on a computer, the tooling cut by CNC lasers and away you go...
  5. Didn't know that about the dashes. I was noticing more the floors... You're just going to have to wait it out and hope one comes along cheaply, I'm afraid. The only other option is to keep watching website like Spotlight Hobbies and Fred's Model World for old built-ups. But, chances are they'll disappear quickly.
  6. There was an entry to one of my club's shows last year that was a converted Cutlass. They used staples for the grille, IIRC. There was a little writeup beside the model telling what they did for the conversion and pictures of the 1:1 car. Looked pretty good. You can see the back of it in this picture...
  7. He did at that. Take that, Chevrolet!
  8. Not exactly the same, but there's an unbuilt 1963 F-100 currently going for $157.50 and there's still 10h left. I was lucky to get my '62 that only had the body painted for what I did...
  9. What was it that Will Smith drove in I Am Legend? Oh yeah, a Ford Expedition!
  10. Nothing close to Windstar seats available in scale. The closest you'd get would be Taurus seats and even then they'd be split bench rather than buckets.
  11. Holy ######, Virgil! How long will that last you?
  12. You're going to need an awfully powerful truck to tow that beastie...
  13. Mine's sitting on my bench, just needing foil and interior. Just can't seem to get to it...
  14. I have two of these in my stash, as well as a Chevelle. I'm dreading attempting to get those decals right...
  15. When it comes to the wood, I'm not sure what to do! Paint it with regular modelling paints or should I stain it?
  16. You got it. For a pre-59 Ford 4x4 truck, the pumpkin will be on the passenger side of the axle.
  17. I usually bid on things on the last day, within a few minutes of the auction ending. Sometimes I'll put in my maximum and leave it, other times I'll end up in a bidding war. Sometimes its worth it to keep bidding; just last night, for instance, I was outbid within the last 5 minutes. I waited until the last minute and bid a dollar over and won. I guess it was either a case of I wanted it more, or an eBay newbie.
  18. I wish they were sticks... it was actually a 1/16 x 3 x 24 in sheet that I cut up. The deck boards are scale 2x6 and the side panels are 2x8. The trailer itself scales out to be about 5' x 8' or thereabouts.
  19. I figured I would try something different for a bit. I had this trailer in a combo pack with a Datsun pickup that's supposed to haul dirtbikes, but the bikes didn't come with the kit. So, I figured I'd haul out some hobby wood and go to town. Apologies for the fuzzy picture; my camera isn't the greatest and neither is my lighting...!
  20. Idk why but the 61-66 F-series is my new favourite classic truck. Just love those lines! The big auction website: its eBay. No idea why some folk are hush hush about it... Anyways. There are resin conversion kits available to convert the Revell 50 F-1 to a 52. And the AMT 53 F-100s are a dime a dozen.
  21. Looks like Dark Horse, I like it!
  22. Actually, the cab changed in 65, when they switched to the new Twin-I-Beam suspension. The biggest differences are the floor, steering column orientation, and the dash. And here's the yearly grilles, '61-'66.
  23. Something to keep in mind is the AMT 92-96 F-150 kit is 1:25 scale and the Monogram 87-91 F-250 kit is 1:24 scale; the bed won't line up with the cab. To make a 92-96 dually bed to match the AMT cab, the best way would be to get a long bed and a flareside kit and graft the flareside bedsides to the long bed. As long as you're very careful with the cuts, it should turn out good!
  24. @62rebel: I wasn't expecting mint built up kits. I bought the lot for other kits in it, not this one. This was a bonus. @Steve: I plan to use the 69-70 grille on a 72 cab. I'll probably end up getting the AMT GMC stepside so I can build a Sierra Grande. This particular cab will get smoothed out and built as a Chevy, probably with the stepside bed. My uncle has a 68 C10 body on a 78 Blazer frame that I've been wanting to replicate for many years.
