I like what Tom did with that Merc too! It reminds me of the "frosted" look paint jobs that were around for a while in the '60's. I echo Pat's desire to know how he did it.
-
I know Ed Fluck, Drag City Casting, did one but his sight is in transition and I don't see it listed. Here's his e-mail lowcab36@epix.net He's a great guy and his products are first class!

I picked up the re-issued Revell '37 Ford pickup kit yesterday. The new hot rod parts are very nice. I understand that there are differences between the '37 and '38 cabs that prevent building a stock '38, but I build hot rods so that '38 front end is a very welcome addition to me!

Happy Birthday, a little late. I have to say we're on several of the same boards and I always open and read your posts. Oh, I have to mention your Indy car builds too, some of my favorites. Here's to a great year at 60! I'm a little over a year behind you.

Great pictures of an old survivor! Thanks for sharing them, they not only inform, they inspire!

Well, if you've made up your mind and we can't talk you out of it, go ahead and stay!

I saw it run in '66 at US 131 Dragway in Martin Mi. It had the stock wheelbase. Arnie had the '63 Tameless Tiger with him too and only ran the white car in one round. (There were 13 Funnies there so no one ran aganst the same car twice.) The '64 got clobbered by Pete Gates in the ex- Dyno Don's '65 Comet. I don't remember it ever having an altered wheelbase. I think the '63, which came after the '64 was Arnie's first AWB car.

My wife and I were in a crowded noisy store. I said something to her she didn't hear. She looked at me and said "I just can't hear you anymore!" To which I replied " Well, that hardly seems fair, I still hear you!" Lucky for me she has a good sense of humor.

Check here. I haven't seen them anywhere else. Kit sources are the Revell Thunderbolt and the AMT Fireball 500 kits.

That's an excellent build of the old FED Tommy Ivo dragster, soon to be re-issued by round 2 AMT.

Toy shows are a good place to pick up new releases below SRP. My LHS are good people, I'll still by some of my kits and most of my supplies there. I'd hate to see them go away!
-
I think the SRP on that kit is $24.95. My LHS started giving me 10% off on Revell kits when they took the big hike. I got my first one there but I see any multiples of this kit coming from Hobby Lobby with 40% off coupons. Please don't blame the Hobby Shops. My Hobby Shop guy was just as horrified (maybe more) by the price hike as I was. I'm sure it's taken a bite out of his sales.

Beautiful Triumph John! Very subtle and clean build.

Another winner Lyle. As with all of your buids it takes more than one cruise through the pictures to catch everything you've done. The Stude V-8 is a nice touch!
-
First off, I know it's not as cool as Lyle's Pickup he just finished but it is DONE. It's the Revell '34 Ford Coupe snap kit. Built pretty much box stock. I did lower the front end a bit. The wheels tires and caps are from the Revell '29 Pickup. The body is Tamiya Dull Red sprayed right over the purple plastic. The Wheels are Testors Grabber Orange. It was a fun stress reliever and got my mind(what's left of it!) off the more complicated builds for a little while.

The spiders look cool. I'm impressed. I want to try casting some small parts in 2 weeks when I'm on vacation. i hope they turn out as nice as yours!

I too was a Dave Boertman fan! US131 Dragway was my local strip growing up and Dave was there most Saturday nights. I think you did a great job on your Charger. Those old stockers and super stockers sure were fun to watch!
-
I've got to say that I've been lovin' this recent Model A frenzy! Your coupe is one of the best of the breed!
-
This is just too cool! Even the mockup would be a draw at any contest! How about the '51 Bel Air 6 with the Fisher head and fuel injection as a starting point for motivation? Every time I read one of your posts here or at TRAK I have the urge to start another project!
-
This is such a cool idea. Your work is outstanding, and the original concept makes so much sense I can't believe I've never seen it done before. I know this will be the inspiration for more cool hot rods down the road!
-
Some nice work there. I also have a '30 coupe in progress but without the '29 conversion. (That was very clever!) I'm building it chopped and full fendered using parts from the Monogram '30 Phaeton kit which has a SMALL BLOCK CHEVY WITH 3X2 INDUCTION as you seek for yours. This '29 is looking cool, I see a fenderless '30 in my future!
-
Craig I like how you think! I'd prefer a closed cab '32 pickup but I'd buy the open cab too! And as for the Olds, it's the only traditional hot rod engine that has not had a modern tool up. I'd like an accurate Y-Block too, but the Olds was in a lot more 1:1 rods.
-
The Lively Set. It has some cool hot rods and the Chrysler Turbine car. Not a car movie but Peggy Sue Got Married has some beautiful 50's rides in it. Nick Cage's '58 Chevy vert is ouystanding!

It's the interior bucket from the '32 Vicky, that's why it's too short. They did correct it but part of the run had the wrong part. I got a few like that but I got them for $5 each intending to use them as chassis donors. I had 1 spare but one of my buddies already snagged it from me. You might be able to lengthen the bucket if no one offers a correct one up.
