While not a fan of the Fauxtina look in general it is about the fastest way I know to get a kit from the box to the shelf. I've only built one other kit this year and needed to get another one on the shelf. I started with the most recent reissue of the Monogram 39 Chevy. A Monogram 78 Corvette donated its engine and suspension to the build. The tunnel ram is from the Monogram 57 Nomad and the wheels are ebay specials.

I've had issues with hot paint leaching through the tape and causing the paint beneath to look very similar to the pic you posted. Spraying in thinner layers can help that sometimes, the solvent evaporates before it has time to penetrate the tape.

You might want to look into a triangular fret dressing file. It's made with smooth edges to be able to rub on a surface without damaging it.

I end up building things I'm not super attached to because the things I want to build I want them to be really good so I'm either waiting on the perfect part or trying to find someone to make the right decals or a dozen other things. So I end up building something just to build something while I plan for the things I really want to be working on.

I lived in Stanley for 17 years. I used to go to the little place that had the 1:25 scale drag strip. Speaking of, have you visited Fast Trax in Troutman?
Me and Mike have been trying to get our schedules lined to go there for a while but haven't been successful yet.

Nice! I'm in West Lincoln County.
You're close to me then, I live in Stanley just on the other side of Lincolnton from you.

I'm in the Charlotte area too. In addition to Spartanburg in January there is a show in Simpsonville in May I believe and a show in Clemmons NC later inthe summer. There is the February swap meet mentioned and there will be another one in April in Shelby.

Yup your 100% correct.Oh well, onto the next project.?
You could always grind it off completely. A car that modified probably would run that spoiler anyway. Something more like the one in the Revell notchback kit would work better.

There is no other part to the spoiler on those kits. The SVO version has a piece that goes on top of the spoiler but not the pace car version.

got one off ebay a while back. Unfortunately, the only part the previous owner had started was the motor/tranny, and it was incomplete and poorly done. Been looking for a replacement i can build the way i want it. Anyone?
If you don't mind going with aftermarket parts Texas_3D_Customs will print their stuff in about any scale you want. I had Charles do a 1/20 scale engine for a kit I have.

thanks for the info. Best bet then I guess to model them would be to take from a lambo? I will have to do some looking around for 70s-90s lambo parts and see what looks right.
If anyone else has information, pls do add on.
Theyre not from a Countach, just kind of inspired by one. They look pretty easy to make from sheet styrene, they're basically the same shape as that face of the rear hatch cover. Use that area for a template and then thin strips to make the open area.

I've never seen scoops like those before, even in the 90s when there were a lot of Countach influences on Pantera body kits. The car was obviously re-done at some point so it would be interesting to see how they're made.

I used the drive chain off one of the little mini bikes to make a drive for a hydraulic pump.

I'm looking for the Monogram 80 Trans Am kit or a decent rebuilder.

Just to add, the flathead in the 32 kit has a C4 automatic transmission.
-
If I remember correctly the front axle as assembled is too wide. With aftermarket wheels it might not be as much of an issue but something to keep on mind. I believe most folks end up leaving the brake drums off as an easy fix.

On one hand, I agree. Anything that brings new blood into the hobby, or even sparks an interest in it, is probably good. And that goes for all plastic modeling, not just cars & trucks.
On the other hand, I think that it's a disservice to novice modelers when someone with supposed standing in the hobby (and a YouTube following) showcases shoddy building techniques, questionable use of materials, etc., when building a kit. If someone is new to the modeling game, they might not understand that the level of build quality that they're seeing is subpar.
Sadly, a lot of what is out there, especially on monetized platforms, is just plain dreck.
Let's face it, those videos aren't really about building models, they're about selling them. I'm sure that's good for the model companies & their distributors, but I'm not sure it's always good for the hobby as a whole, new modelers in particular.
Just my two copper.
I can see it both ways, but if a person wants to advance in the hobby there's nothing stopping them. My youtube feed is full of other builders doing very high caliber builds so anyone watching him will see these videos available too. And if someone has fun building like him then that's fine too.

I've done this two different ways. One is to use thin strips of plastic to make like a door jam around the opening in the body then glue the door to them. I overlap about 1/8" to give a good surface for gluing. Another way is to use very thin strips to go around the door piece. Glue them a little lower than the surface of the body panel, this will create you panel gap once the part is in. Now sand the added edges down slowly until the part fits the door opening snugly and glue it in.

The fact that they do throw free kits at him after seeing the way he builds doesn't give me much hope at all. Idk who it's helping showing so little respect for the products he's getting for free. Definitely a slap in the face to modelers who put a little more effort than that into our builds lol.
You have to understand, we're the lunatic fringe. Most builders are content with Rustoleum paints and Testors tube glue. I'm sure the model companies love him because he makes building models look accessible. Honestly, I'm sure the model companies don't give a flip what happens to a kit once it gets bought. If Chris is the entry point for new builders to come into the hobby I think it's a net good to all of us.

Check out this post from the new truck kits section, it shows just about every version of the Moebius Ford's.

Before I paint anything I test fit. There's not much worse than finding out your freshly painted parts don't fit and need to be sanded.

I prefer the 76, I like the grille with the fog lights.

Sniping is not a bidding war. I only place one bid seconds before auction ends. Period. If I win, I win, if not - oh well. But If I placed the same bit few days before the auction ends, there is a big chances that the nickel-and-dimers will slowly jack up the selling price, even for the sniper. In my 24 years of buying on eBay I have learned that there are lots of those who do not understand how to try to get the item at the lowest possible price. Does it always work for me? No, but that is the chance I'm willing to take. I have done quite well over those 24 years.
This is what I do as well for the exact same reason. Early in my ebay career I got in a bidding war for a kit I really wanted and over the course of a couple days bid it up to more than I really wanted to pay then still got sniped at the end of the auction.

The Revell 70 Torino GT kit with the green car on the box has a set of Cragars and slicks to fit them. The fronts mount a standard width front tire.
