  1. I built this kit ( 20 years ago ?! ) and do recall the same issues with the body lines and panel gaps. Wide oval style kit tires could be sectioned if the skinnies are not available. If your looking for a representative model you WILL need some skills or you may be disapointed. I think I cut the trunk mat from a color catalog. But the kit has potential and it's challenges can be fun and gratifying to conquer. Large scale models offer a world of detailing opportunities. Have fun !
  2. I cut up black decal film into squares and placed them on white film that had dried on the firewall. A little solv-a-set settled them in.
  3. Built these as a kid, always loved the box art. This one is the mid 90's repop. Even with plastic tires I think it's got character, especially the decals. Bone head driver is the 'Lil Coffin guy. Thanks for looking.
  4. Well executed in all respects, looks like a fun build.
  5. Wonderful color choices, very clean build, the Lolas of this era were very slick. Have you ever seen the Donahue-Penske Lola?
  6. Hey up there there in O H I O. I just cant decide on how I want to rebuild the 'Vair, but it will happen. Thanks for your memories regarding Grit. Boys Life, among others, was the one I recall that advertised Grit along with the prize incentives like thimble drome cars and the Visible V-8.
  7. Wow, thanks for posting these really neat photos, I think we all agree that box art both new and old is a very appealing part of our hobby. J.D.
  8. Radio shack can be a source of scratch building odds and ends, wire, solder, etc. But they also have the small ( about an inch long ) elecrtrical alligator clips that are great for fixturing parts or painting parts. They come several in a pack and they are a cheap, useful, tool. The tips are easily bent to conform to round or flat parts, or to pinch .
  9. Thanks Harry for your reply, now I can amaze my car buddies with another nugat of obscure trivia........
  10. I've often wondered but never found the answer: what year and model was the last american ( or any other ) car to offer a 3 speed column shift manual ?
  11. Will someone please build a working model of "The Time Machine" !
  12. Does anyone remember the costs of the 1/8 scale kits from the 60's? The original releases of the Monogram and lindberg kits. They had to be rediculously low by todays standards. Was "Grit" the magazine you could sell for prizes, some of the prizes being large scale kits?
  13. Good call on the motor choice, nice clean build....
  14. In answer to this and an earlier post : this is the Monogram "Big Duece" 1/8 scale, the latest repop version. Does anyone remember what these originally cost back in the day ?
  15. This one really has the look, a Saturday night bull ring survivor! Love the out of the ordinary body choice. Very kool.
  16. It's been a while but I think the plug wires and smaller electrical were all Detail Master. Thanks
  17. Tried to use generic craft store Silly Putty for masking a chassis but it was not pretty! It was not very pliable and it would not adhere to the plastic. Dont wast your time on this stuff. Have not tried real silly putty yet.
  18. Charlie I believe it was just a few drops of red to a small Testor bottle, trial and error until it matches your reference photo. Remember your can always add but you cant take out so be conservative... Thanks
  19. http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/jdcar32/model%20car%20door%20hinges/th_hinge.jpg' alt='th_hinge.jpg'>These are the basic designs I use for both hidden hinges and exposed hinges. Some of my posts in "Under Glass" show actual examples. The back side or heel of a #11 X-Acto blade with the sharp point removed works for scribing the door out .
  20. The rebuild took place several years back, I believe the stock version is available now. The hub caps are modelhaus, tires parts box whitewalls. Otherwise the original parts were saved, some after extensive surgery due to "Testor glue cancer". The kit parts are pretty good and respond well to detailing. Thanks !
  21. Testors bottle copper with a little red added. Thanks !
  22. Every now and then I pull out one of my old built kits, this is one from 30 years ago. Purple cleaner did it's magic, then I carved the doors open and put some Walmart rattle can paint on it. I just barely saved the glass from it's Testors glue trap! Thanks for looking.
  23. Neat stuff, very true to the theme !
  24. What swamp did they pull that thing out of ? Were there any bodies in the trunk ?
