Scale I Build

  1. This is the one stock build I completed while simultaneously building four other 1/25 drag subjects (I don't recommend doing that unless you like mixing up radiator hoses and batteries!). I heard that this AMT kit was very nice and was not disappointed, multiple engines, separate components for the chassis, exhausts, gas tank, inside door panels on the interior. Felt like I was building a Revell kit! The exterior was painted in metallic "Orchid Grey" from Scale Finishes, the brightwork trim in Alclad over black enamel or foil, all other colors in Tamiya acrylics. I think these first year Starliners are beautiful but then I also really like GM's '59 - '60 bodies, they still look so futuristic to me. If Don Draper got demoted at Sterling Cooper and had to trade down from his Caddie, I can see him driving to the office in this lavender Starliner. Cheers, John
  2. Here’s my latest, the AMT ’60 Ford Starliner. I lowered the suspension, filled the antenna hole in the front wing. MCG PE details were used, but I didn’t use the PE grille, as you need to buy separate headlight buckets, from Modelhaus or somewhere else… Thanks MCG. That cost me $20 and it was all but useless. Why not include resin buckets in with the PE set? I mean, how much more would it cost? Anyway, I replaced the dash switches and the dials. I flocked the carpets and wired the engine. Wheels are from Pegasus and I made the exhaust system from lead solder, with polished aluminium Bellflowers. I made the antenna, too, after seeing a similar one in reference photos. I thought it looked quite period-correct. Paint was silver base, with silver flake on top, followed by purple candy and more clear. The downside to all this paint, is that the panel lines disappeared in places, so a lot of the BMF had to be done by eye, with a steady hand. I was sweating bullets. The pattern was masked with some of that greeting-card craft border. The self-adhesive stuff. Er…I think that’s it. Here are the pics, comments welcome: Even though I used lots of artificial light, the purple didn't really come out strongly in the photos. Believe me, it really pops in the sun!
  3. This is my 60 Ford Starliner RestoMod I worked on back this past winter. I combined AMT's 60 Ford Starliner with the engine, running gear and suspension from Revell's 2010 Mustang GT 500. Not sure where I got the wheels from now. I opened the doors and did a lot of aftermarket and scratch-building and detailing work on it as well.. The paint is Tamiya's british green and silver leaf with clear pearl and then testors clear laquar over all that. There were a few flaws here and there, but it turned out ok for me.
  4. Here are a few pics of my current build......if I could ever get the paint to turn out the way I want, it might get finished!
