Scale I Build

Found 4 results

  1. My second Airfix/Heller kit, WRC car and a French Citroen! My aim was to build it as tidy as possible, with a cloud of stage dust accumulated in the rear. I have not got to the last part as I’m still waiting to distance myself emotionally from the project before I literally spray dirt onto something I surgically assembled in a gas chamber 😂 for six months so incase it doesn’t happen I want to conclude at this stage anyway. Model - Citroen DS3 WRC by Heller Details - Box Stock, I kept this one free from any aftermarket parts as a change to my recent Stratos build You’ll want to find brush paint to match the decals there’s plenty of small edges and slivers of areas I had to brush touch up. The decal job is significant as explained in the wip thread the “redbull” words and bulls themselves made up of 8-10 decals that overlap another in ways you wouldn’t ever dream of doing. So ultimately I can’t believe it all sticks and I didn’t tear a bottom layer or a midway decal during application ruining everything in a complicated way. Perhaps it speaks to show the quality of decals themselves Heller made here. Modifications - Box stock build apart from the flocked interior, steering wheel cable, front tow hook, and diy cut masks for the Citroen racing logo on the front. I also used utilised a universal carbon decal sheet by Tamiya for the rear wing. Pros By far most complex decal / livery I’ve completed combined with painting multiple masked colours as a base. Might be the nicest clear coat I’ve managed thus far. I thank wet sanding and spraying down the room with water before each clear coat layer in an attempt to ground anything airborne. Cons Wheels could be nicer in these heller kits. Otherwise this is almost Tamiya quality fit / finish ( opposite to the Xsara kit ). Yellow has a bit of dark blue seeping through as the blue is in paint and the decal overlaps it. To make this alignment 100% you’d have to paint the decal or be a magician to have it align, guessing how the decal will conform while setting on the surface vs. A clumsy freehand masked tape line. I’m really content. I absolutely love rally cars. Build Thread -
  2. Model - Airfix Citroen Xsara WRC Details - Aftermarket hood pins, decals and DIY leaves added Modifications - Stance is hard-set with CA glue and hot glue as best as I could manage, exhaust is shortened and glued further away from original mounting and bored out to look more realistic, molded in rear badges, hood pins, tow hooks removed. Jack stand holes drilled through. Thin strip of tape painted in yellow and mounted in center of steering wheel detail. Subtle windscreen weathering, Flocked dashboard, seats, and steering wheel. Windows had to be cut down from one part to 5 separate. Gaps remain if you want to be picky 😀 Pros First completely airbrushed model excluding primer and clear First panel line wash First “light” coloured weathering Really happy with result!! Cons Missing lamps lenses from the box Second round of weathering experiment not as convincing as first, it is water soluble so I will continue to remove if bothersome to the eye over time. A simple but challenging build. The model kit reads like it’s in scale and nicely molded but the manual is bizzare and overall build is difficult I would say. A advanced build that required attention and imagination during basic assembly. Beware of old decals, low quality more then high quality ones anyway! Decals, weathering, perfect glass finish gloss paint and 100% stance remains a “could have been better” in my opinion but it’s a finished and documented model. I am very content, this is my second finished model from the 20 year break and it feels fantastic! The lotus in the photos is still a wip but could not help have them in the shot together. Original kit boxes have had their box art cut out for future display / decoration of some sort. WIP Thread -
  3. Hey fellas - Bob here. I'm a Gulf War veteran and an avid modeler for about 25 years now. My main interest is motorsports...drag racing, endurance racing, F1, oval track and sprint -- if it's competition, I love it. I do stray to other subjects, but not often. I stay pretty focused.
  4. Hello, I've just joined this forum, and I wanted to share some of my models with you. I built this at the start of the year and finished it about two months ago. It is Revell's 2009 Audi A4 DTM. I converted this from Timo Schneider's matt black car to Mattias Ekström's very striking Red Bull sponsored car. I wrote an article on this model, which featured in the latest issue of the IPMS(UK) magazine. This has been one of the most fun I've had whilst building a model, and it certainly has the best colour scheme of any model I've built! I am currently having a break from motorsport models and building two Revell kits side-by-side, the 2010 Camaro SS and 2013 Mustang Boss 302. I'll post a WIP of those up on here soon. Thanks, Jake
