Scale I Build

Found 4 results

  1. I built this a few years ago. It's a $5 toy I picked up at Walmart. I started by gutting the toy chassis and electronics. I made a plate chassis out of .040 styrene. I shaved the body and added a rear rolled pan. Then, I covered it with Tamiya Gold, drew and cut my masks and shot Tamiya Metallic Orange and clear over it. Pegasus 23" T's and disc brakes finish it off. Thanx for checking it out!
  2. I had a yellow '77 Golf mk1, years ago. It wasn't a GTi, but it was a great car. As a little break from '50's chrome, I've changed tack and given this a go. My plan is to slam it, widen the track and flare the arches. Paint will be old and a bit faded, like mine was and I'll stickerbomb it in a couple of places. Got the engine done today. It built up really well. Nice to build a kit with modern tooling. I added a basic fuel injection system and weathered it a bit.
  3. Pink Revell Volkswagon combined with a '34 Ford sedan. '37 Ford headlights and scratchbuilt visor. Decals from the box, as are the taillights and exhaust and wheels. Paint is Testors metallic green from the small bottles. Part of a "club theme build" at the time.
  4. When brainstorming project ideas, sometimes I find it helpful to start with backstory rather than just starting with a couple of model parts that happen to fall together, though I've had plenty of projects begin that way as well. In this case, the project was sparked by a conversation in cluding the idea that swap meet spaces were claimed by a first-come, first-served method like the Oklahoma land race, and what kind of hauler one might use to sell at such an event. I went with a slammed VW singlecab, converted to a halftrack with a roller on the front bumper to help skid over larger obstacles (see the weeds caught in the roller and rear bumper, below). Based on a Freeman Cars VW DRAG TRUCK body and the treads from an old small scale Caterpillar tractor model, I built this slammer:
