cobraman Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Next build on the bench is this 62 Chevy I want to convert to a flat top style drag car. It will be (hopefully) similar to the 57 Ford I did awhile ago.
cobraman Posted March 21, 2015 Author Posted March 21, 2015 Thank you guys. This one may take awhile. : )
Nitrozilla Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I'm on board Ray. I don't know why, but I've always loved things that are topless.
cobraman Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 This should be the last round of putty I have to apply. Then some mods and it will be paint ready. Since I don't have an engine that would suit this build I am going to build it curbside. No engine and the body will be glued on.
Speedfreak Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Ray, I think the '62 Chevy body will look good this way. The color will be imperitive.
cobraman Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 Thank you. I don't yet have any idea what color it will be. Planning on applying some paint later today.
cobraman Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 Boy did I mess up ! So I got this smoothed and primed and wet sanded. So what's next ? Paint ? Well that's what I figured. So I put down some color and it looked pretty good. Did some masking and did a skunk stripe. Looked good. Went to set the body on the chassis.......... oh no !!!!!!!!!!!!! I had forgotten to cut the hole for the roll cage to fit through the body. I had to take the Dremel to the new paint. I managed to cut the hole without doing a lot of damage but there was some. Trying to fix that now. What a dummy I am sometimes. Worst thing about it that I have nobody but myself to blame. Been building models for over 50 years and I still can't get it right !! : )
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Ouch. Hey it happens to all of us once in a while. Hopefully you can minimize the damage.
Mooneyzs Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Ray... You are off to a great start. I am really digging this and direction you are going. Can't wait to see more of this build. Bummer to hear about the hole for the roll cage.... you will get it fixed in no time.
cobraman Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Well, I got it fixed after a fashion. : ) Photos show where I am now. Still needs to be cleared. I will either cut down the glass more or toss it. I just don't like the look at all.
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Looking good. Gotta agree that glass doesn't look right.
slusher Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Looking sharp Ray, the glass is kind of cool. We all make mistakes and looks like you saved it...
cobraman Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Will for sure try cutting the glass down a lot to see if that works. If not, it's gone !
Nitrozilla Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Wow Ray, you sure went for it on this one. As far as missing cutting out the cockpit, don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things. Builders at your level can fix anything. As for the glass, yeah, it needs help. If I may suggest something else that might help, the skunk stripe is sweet and if you have looked at Fremont Decals gold decals I think they would go very well for whatever graphics you have in mind. I grabbed a handful of their stuff at the San Jose NNL. If you need something in a hurry, I'll be glad to mail you something from my stash. PM if you like. Finally, I love the individual holes for the injectors.
