Ok here is something different. A bit of an oddball kit, kinda rare so I thought I would share it with y'all.

image.jpg1_3.jpg

I got this off EBay  as it came up and I am building the Fujimi 1/16 F40 and I have a semi-built Pocher F40 enroute...so what the heck

The kit is pretty simple, ALL plastic with some screws. I can see why a few transkits are offered, but they are rare and expensive. Full metal block kit is $500CAD!!! The Exotic Pochers have a reputation that does not live up to the Classic Pocher heritage, much more toy like.

Funny part of the instructions is this little dude who flashes the tools needed by opening his coat

"Don't look Ethel!" From the Ray Stevens Streak song....one of my favorites

image.jpg3_2.jpg

So the instructions start at #10. I kinda freaked and though I was missing pages and started looking for PDF's of the kit..nothing.

I contacted Paul Koo and he sent me a copy of the whole instruction booklet...yep, they just cut out the part for engine assembly and put it in this kit. BTW Mr Koo is a super cool, helpful and awesome guy

image.jpg2_3.jpg

Here are parts in the box. I have put stuff in plastic bags and little jewel boxes for screws. This is nothing like a Classic Pocher with thousands of screws and metal parts..but still it is big!

This is a full on floppy rubber sprue and a blue moulded one for the oil filter

It goes together like a jigsaw puzzle, so let's do a little dry fitting and work out problems

Transmission dry fit compared with 1/16 Fujimi engine for scale comparison

image.jpg1_6.jpg

Not so bad, 1 screw and others snapped together but can still be removed. Not sure if I will glue this or not in the end.

Started the beginnings of an engine stand...brass tubing sleeves

image.jpg2_2.jpg

The bell housing and engine block are much looser fitting and I find the cylinder heads kinda cheesy multi-piece bits compared to say the Pocher Alfa Romeo's gorgeous block and head.

She is up on her 'feet' in a dry fitting. Looks a little sloppy in spots, but going to have some fun with this kit for sure.

I might need to put some money into aftermarket stuff though..we shall see my friends, we shall see.

I like engines ...

would you suggest this as an intro into the Pocher world for a novice, whose economic status is closer to the end of the "trickle down" path than the trailhead?

Oh absolutely a good intro

I have not completed a full on Pocher myself, just busy buying kits like an idiot and tearing apart old ones.

The "classic" Pochers have a reputation as complex with lots of little bits and parts and questionable fit in some. But there is a ton of info, help, aftermarket parts and instruction cd's if you got some money to spend.

This is a simpler kit, all plastic and taken right off the F40 Exotic Pocher line. It is a really good model, not stupid expensive other than rarity. A really good intro into this scale and exactly why I started it

There are two nice 1/8 Testarossa engines on E Bay right now........

Thanks Ray

Hey, I saw a cobra 427 engine display on e bay the other day and thought of you

Why didn't you think of me?

The dude's name is Cobra man, he collects everything cobra

Your name is Cato, you were Clouseau's side kick in the Pink Panther Movies and now are rich and famous and drive and build Rolls Royces

Had I known........

That is a very shiny looking beast, I think we need some more photos of the whole thing!!!

That's a nice intro into the world of Pocher. But wait until you get your first Pocher "classic" and have to build either five or six wire wheels spoke by spoke!;)

Ya, I looked at all that paraphernalia and have been researching re-spoking plastic wheels with wire

Looks like a lot of fun....like a root canal

Actually my root canals ARE lots of fun, once we get them out of pain

One of the reasons I didn't dive right into that first Alfa was to delay and build skill first

Didn't want to stuff up a rare, expensive kit right off the bat

You haven't lived until you've built one of these...

I will get there, one day Harry

Maybe even mill the whole darn rim, that is where I am planning to go

Maybe, if my wife lets me buy the lathe and mill

So,... this is a curbside,...?

I think it is the complete opposite of a curbside....all engine, no body

Actually I WILL have the whole body to display along side, coming in a few days

Less shiny looking:

On your topic; I suspect you will be disappointed with the 40. I had the TR (NIB from '91) and was lucky enough to sell it. Cracked plastic bits (like the 'screen frame and 'screen), different shade, orange peel-laden panels. toy like suspension, wonky interior bits, yada yada...A big diecast which is an insult to diecasts.

Ya I am getting that vibe from this kit.... the exotic line isn't quite up to Pocher standards

BUT, you gotta take it for what it is

I am glad I didn't get too deep into the classic ones. I will make something out of both the TR and the F40

Is your 1:1 done??

Building that is impressive work

I disagree; the classics are the better, more rewarding experience based on my Roller experience. No going from one box to another, build after build. It kicks my butt to stretch farther than anything other than the Cobra. Hope you come over to the classics.

The Roller's been 14 months with at least as many to go I think. I'll be lost when it's 'done'.

OTOH, this project has been 27 years. Could have been in and out of all manner of muscle or exotics in that time but this obnoxious thing has been my all. I'm like that I guess.

That is freaking awesome

You are my new super hero

I have two Alfa classics waiting for me to do them proud when I am ready time and skill wise

I would rather cut my teeth on these lesser exotic models than wreck a classic

But I have wide interests too, so you gotta take what you can get in kits

I have a cobra 1/12 waiting for me too. I want to do this to it

I think that's 1/16 scale.

The side wings are for buffering the wind and keeping the toupee on ...
