Harry P. Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Remember, don't post any hints or answers here. PM me with year, make, and model. The answer: 1939-40 Aero 50 Dynamik
Harry P. Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 This week's car is a 1939-40 Aero 59 Dynamik. http://www.aero-ig.de/cont_aero50_sodom_dynamik.htm Who got it right (not many!): dw1603 blunc jaymcminn Badluck 13 bbsbase
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) The 1939-40 Aero 50 Dynamik, by the Czech coachbiilder Carrosserie Sodomka, is reminiscent of the work of Figoni et Falaschi, a French firm that built many striking aero-influenced designs in the 1930s also. Zandmann Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I knew it something from Czechoslovakia! Skoda did reveal that it was European but... Well, good looking though.
62rebel Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 i was curious about the narrow track, the rear wheels appear to be inside the body line, not just inside the skirted wheel wells! the grille looked shopped and I was hunting French coachbuilt stuff... good one Harry!

Lovefordgalaxie Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Hard to imagine something more "Art Deco" Headlights are specially beautiful.
dw1603 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 (edited) The headlights on this beauty made me think of an American production car from around this era, but I can't for the life of me recall the manufacturer. Maybe Studebaker? Maybe someone else. What did strike me was just how important 1938 was stylewise, there were must so many groundbreaking advances this year. Compare 1932 to 1938 and consider where we would have been in 1944 if WW2 had not intervened. A batwinged Chevy in '55? Could have happened. On the other hand, the dark ages could have happened sooner too. Oh well, Maybe we should stick with what we have. If anybody has an idea about those peepers, I'd love to hear it. dimaxion Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Before WWII , Automakers were experimenting with different shapes for Headlights . '38 Willies , '39 Plymouths and the rest of the MoPar line had similar headlights . The '39 / '39 Graham Sharknose had similar also . AS did a Few others Cars in the late '30's & Early '40's . It is possible this is what you are thinking of is this shape on this Vehicle ? During the WWII Era the WPB (War Production Board) had troubles making replacement lamps to keep these supplied for Useable Vehicles for the Duration . The Sealed Beams were standard in the '40 MY .Post War , the DOT prevented non - round standard sized Headlights entering into Automobiles sold and used in the US . In the Early DOT '60's made Covered Headlight illegal . These were becoming popular Worldwide . It was DOT & individual State Regulations the Car Makers had to appease to add 4 Sealed Beams to the Car Lines in 1958 . The '57 MY year had the Auto Makers produce both 4 Headlight Systems and Two Headlight Sytems at the same time on the same Model .For the '75 MY DOT had approved the Rectangular shape at the request of GM . Many decades of Requests . Thanx ..
dw1603 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) The quad light 58 Studehards and Packbakers looked a little uncomfortable. There were also numerous European models that didn't look quite so good for the American market. It was always a give away on low budget TV shows that were supposedly set in a European venue. Look at the headlights, oh yeah, Hollywood. Also, we will never forgive you for the Series 2 E Type Jaguar (XK-E) Edited April 14, 2015 by dw1603
Harry P. Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 Also, we will never forgive you for the Series 2 E Type Jaguar (XK-E) Sorry about that. Our mistake... But don't blame us for the Jaguar E-Type 2+2... that one is all on you guys!
dw1603 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) But don't blame us for the Jaguar E-Type 2+2... that one is all on you guys! Haha! You are right about that. In defence of the 2+2, it doesn't seem quite as grotesque today as it used to. I actually prefer the early upright screen version! Edited April 15, 2015 by dw1603
