aurfalien Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Hi, Apology if this has already been covered, but I've a seemingly thin paint. When I brush it on, its like the color thins out. I've mixed it well from shaking the jar to using a mini mixer. Its seems to be the worst paint I've messed with, my other colors are easy compared to this stuff. Would any one know how I can thicken it out a bit?
bobthehobbyguy Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Are you brushing it over bare plastic? If so you need to prime the plastic and then try brushing it. I've found it works better that way.
aurfalien Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 (edited) Well, I've primed it a few times with Tamiya grey primer. I'll try stripping and re priming although it had coverage. Thanks dude. They are small parts. Edited April 18, 2015 by aurfalien

aurfalien Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Hi, Can I assume that even if I paint it on paper, paper towels or plastic palette etc and it streaks that the pigment is simply bad?
aurfalien Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 Ok, well after a few coats and very light sanding/buffing in between coats it seems ok. Plus adding a little Flow-Aid to it helped. Still I'm taking in it to my local hobby shop to see what they think. I can't imagine painting anything larger then 1/4" with it, especially if its got curves. A lot of work for this little jar of lime green I tell ya. My other colors seem great compared to this one.
fseva Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Plus adding a little Flow-Aid to it helped. If Flow-Aid is what I think it is, it's going to thin your paint even more! Most acrylic flow enhancers include stuff to make the paint smoother and thinner, including a little bit of water, to make the paint "flow" better through an airbrush.
fseva Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Can I assume that even if I paint it on paper, paper towels or plastic palette etc and it streaks that the pigment is simply bad? I only know what you mean (I think) on a plastic palette... You can't expect a first brush coat to be without streaks, especially with your very thin paint. However, after another coat, you will see the paint is filling in the streaks; subsequent coats should be aimed at smoothing the paint out.
aurfalien Posted April 21, 2015 Author Posted April 21, 2015 Hi fseva, You're right about the FlowAid, it didn't really help and only made it thinner. I'll keep practicing with this color as I'd like to really understand how to apply it.
