I hope he takes after me in that sense. My wife really likes video games. I do not like them. Today he was actually in his bassenette next to me while I was working on the trailer for my Volvo.

Since I had a set back with the Volvo build, I pulled this out sooner than I had expected.

I was curious how much lower this is compared to a box stock, so here's a pic.

NOW HEAR THIS! I had to hire an archeological team to dig this thread up for me. I actually put some putty on this this morning. I have about 2 weeks till the contest . I'm not gonna push this to get done by then, but if it happens it happens. I hope gettin a little putty on the fingers was enough to ignite the motivation

Good for you Clayton! I like your attitude about getting it finished for the contest. If it's not done in time, it's no big deal;)

     Clayton,

Good for you ! Back at the bench. You've had a major  life altering event in your life ( the birth of your son ). Your model groove will come back,

just give it time and don't push it. I hope you can finish this for the contest. But remember the most important thing, this is a hobby. Don't go stressin over a contest and trophies.

Enjoy your new  role in life as a Dad !!

Thanks Dennis. Seems this summer has slowed a few builders. But, now it's cooling off, it's a little more bearable to be outside. That and the paint doesn't dry before it hits what I'm painting.

Thanks Gordon. I'm really lookin forward to seeing this done, whenever that'll be.

Thanks Gator. That's exactly what I've been doing in my free time, spending time my son. I think now I can start gettin a little modeling in while he's nappin. I doubt I'll get this done for the show. I've got other builds that need to prepped to go. Maybe after the first of the year this can make its show debut.

Clayton this is a very informative thread for making a "po boy" 379 .  Did you ever complete this truck - I am curious on how the flame mask worked out.

Still sittin how the last pic show. There's so much to this, it's kinda daunting. But it'll get goin forward again eventually. Same for my 367, 389 and a few others.

Clayton - I have read through this several times.  May I make a suggestion  -  I would really go with some .010" or .015" styrene to do your in cab flames.  Easier to work with and it wont have that over thick look to it.  You might even consider another mask and just use it painted up ..

I had many issues with the putty. I messed with it most of the afternoon and evening and couldn't get the results I was lookin for. I revisit the putty on another build.

So I scratched up a set. I used .03 sheet for the main part of the panel. I used .01 for the flames. Glued the two pieces together then sanded the edges of the flames to round and smooth them out a bit. I still need to cut another piece of stainless for the top of the panel. I'm gonna use the process for the floor and hopefully the ceiling.

Sean. That's exactly what I did. Made a .03 main panel, then used .01 to cut out the flames. I wanted to have some depth to the panels and floor. I did consider using a mask.

Here it is, as it's bennyg sittin since I last left. I did make a new floor that fits the area and covers the voids from opening the doors. I'm gonna work on the back of cab first I think, get it smoothed, then cut out the window.
