AzTom Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) This is my next project now that I'm finally getting my shop back together. 1/18 scale diecast 41 Willys. This is going to be a simple repaint and some small detailing. Edited August 3, 2015 by AzTom
AzTom Posted April 29, 2015 Author Posted April 29, 2015 First thing was to get rid of that ugly orange on the blower.
Junkman Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 I am seriously looking forward to this, since I have a similar project in my mind.My tip: Ditch that engine and get yourself a blown Big Block from GMP.Because that's what I'll be doing.
AzTom Posted May 2, 2015 Author Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) That's too easy, lol I did that on the last one. I did some more detailing on the engine tonight. My next one is going to be convert it back to stock. I have a flat four from a Willys Jeep hat should work. Here is my last one with realistic door hinges. http://public.fotki.com/aztom/toys--models/die-cast-118-cars--/118-custom-diecast/custom-1941-willys/ Edited May 2, 2015 by AzTom
Junkman Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 That hinge thing is bloody brilliant! I like the idea of a stock one, but how would you go about bumpers and wheels?
AzTom Posted May 3, 2015 Author Posted May 3, 2015 Thanks on the hinges. I'm changing the rear bumper on this one so I can use it on the front of the stock one. The wheels will be from a Henry J.
AzTom Posted May 3, 2015 Author Posted May 3, 2015 I got the body in base coat. Testers Model Masters lacquer rattle can
AzTom Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 I took the "Power" off the valve covers and added plug wires and fuel lines. Changed the rear bumper to a pipe push bar. Thanks for looking
AzTom Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 Thanks David. I got the body clear coated and the chrome back on. I also blacked out the chrome window trim as it should be rubber only.
Junkman Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Fantastic. Do you use any primer on these? If yes, which kind?
AzTom Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 I do. I normally use Dupont Self Etching but I have used other brand with success. On bare diecast it is a must to use self etching as the first coat. I finished it up except for the rear license plate. I have some 1/18 AZ plates made but need to find them. Thanks for looking. Thanks Harry.
Dyno Davo Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Stunning make-over, very neat and improved the model 150%
AzTom Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 Thanks David. I'm can't wait til the new Acme 1/18 40-41 Willys gets here. I have some coming in kit form.
Yenkocamaro Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 (edited) Nice Job, Tom! Love that color, super paint job. Cheers, Lance Edited May 11, 2015 by Yenkocamaro
High octane Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Real nice job on that Willys. That so called "push bar" really is a tube to be filled with ballast to add weight to the rear end of the car. Gassers were street legal and had to have a starter. They did not allow push starts like on the early dragsters of the 50's & 60's.
AzTom Posted May 12, 2015 Author Posted May 12, 2015 The color is Silver Blue Metallic # 28145 from the Model Masters Lacquer System. I used Dupli-Color acrylic lacquer clear coat. Both are rattle cans.
Outlaw_Pitbull_0411 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Like that color alot, kinda has a dallas cowboys feel too it
