I notice that there are a bunch, well at least a few, great builders in the San Jose area. Have you guys ever thought about forming a club? I'm sure that there are a bunch of novice builders, like myself, that would be glad to learn from the masters.

I'm pretty sure that there's a club in the Sunnyvale area. If I recall, it's run by Steve Hinson. You should be able to send him a PM from here to get more information, or track him down this Saturday at the NNL West.

I think there are IPMS chapters in Fremont, Santa Clara and Mountain View as well. I was looking into them when I lived in the Bay Area but moved before actually going to any meetings.

Hi Milt..I've been in SJ for a lonnnng while and here's what I know "club" wise, Steve does not run a club..their used to be a group that met for meetings, but most of the guys fell out of going I think mainly cuz of time and schedule issues, and face it ...none of us are spring chickens :D and who want's to drive in the evening around here unless you have to!..their is a fairly large group that meets Mo. in Milpitas???? mighta moved since last yr?.. but they have a website SVSM (silicon valley scale modelers) and I do believe they're associated with IPMS but anyone can attend a meeting, although most of the folks are military/aircraft builders!...if you can make the NNL you'll probably see most of the local guys there :)

Hey Brian,

Yep, there was a flyer about the SVSM at my LHS, but I think that they met in Morgan Hill. Way to far to drive at night at my age.

Going to make it to NNL. Hopefully meet some of the guys. They have been very helpfull in getting me back into this after 40 years.

I'm in Fremont. Cked out the local IPMS and also the SVSM and they seem to be more aircraft/military minded. Is there any interest out there for automotive modelling?

I look at the scrapbook nights my wife goes to and tried to imagine what a car model equivalent would be. She spends about 6 hours there. Some people get 20 pages done, some just come to chit chat. What would us car modelers get done in 6 hours? Heck I spend that much just scribing body lines. Project updates? I get maybe 2 cars done a year. To me the best local club we have is the annual NNL West. One year seems like a long time, but when I get there we greet each other like we just had a meeting the previous day.

Years ago I've thought about the lack of car model groups around the bay area, but then I figured why bother? We've got our club right here plus other numerous forums, and with more members than you can ever imagine.

My thoughts about a local club were purely selfish. I got back into building about a year ago after a 40 years absence and am way behind the curve. It is a big help for me to ask for tips on this forum and have gotten great responses, but it would sure be nice to be able to talk, in detail, one on one with some of you guys. Especially on a regular basis.
