spencer1984 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) The original Herbie was a '63 VW, which unfortunately has never been properly kitted or made available in diecast. The closest thing is Fabbri's '61 VW, which is virtually identical (aside from the Wolfsburg crest on the hood) and even comes in L87 Pearl White. The only down side is that they only made eight, and they were all accidentally shipped to a clothing store in Utah that occasionally sells one when they find the box. I've had an easier time tracking down Nitto Vanette kits from the late '70s than I have these diecasts that were made in 2010. Still, I finally managed to track down a second one, and after some cleaning, corrected details, and a set of decals from Hobby Design, I now have the titular car from Herbie Rides Again: Now I just need to find two more... Junkman Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) No problem to obtain those on this side of the pond. How did you replicate the sunroof? Edited June 23, 2015 by Junkman
spencer1984 Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 Christian, I sent you a PM. The roof is out of Polar Lights' Herbie kit - just remove the tabs and do a little reshaping, and it fits this body beautifully.
AzTom Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Look very nice. I am not an expert on Herbie but Hotwheels recently made a high detailed 1/43 and a 1/18 that looks correct. Johnny Lightning also made a 1/18 several years ago.
spencer1984 Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 Thanks! Yeah, there are some decent replicas out there, but they all seem to skip my preferred ~1/24 scale

Dann Tier Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 VERY NICE! I have a Herbie kit that is partially started. I like the one from Herbie goes to Monte Carlo. some day i'll finish it.
Junkman Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Btw, that beetle is now available again, but not in perlweiß.
spencer1984 Posted November 26, 2015 Author Posted November 26, 2015 I saw there's a blue version, but I was still hoping for another off-white (or two). There's a place in North Yorkshire called Jaunty Jalopies Collectables that claims to have a bunch, but their e-mail address is no good and they've blocked contact through eBay messaging.
jerseyjunker1 Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 great job you gotta love a Herbie!! what i wanna know is HOW THE HECK DID THEY ACCIDENTALLY SHIP MODEL CARS TO A CLOTHING STORE. WEIRD!!
