landman Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 That is looking good. I will be watching for your next update. Be Well Gator Gator, do you still believe that crane is too big? It sure has some heft to it.
landman Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 That sure is a nice looking crane. Seems like all the details are there. Won't look like a toy.
Superpeterbilt Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Gator, do you still believe that crane is too big? It sure has some heft to it. I was just going to say the same thing. Make sure that old Dodge frame is fishplated, or it'll break in half
landman Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 I was just going to say the same thing. Make sure that old Dodge frame is fishplated, or it'll break in half We may have to leave the outriggers down all the time.
gatorincebu Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 (edited) Gator, do you still believe that crane is too big? It sure has some heft to it. Pat, To be brutally honest. Yes!! I think the KFS crane is too big. I think the Effer Crane from the Italeri parts kit would be a better fit. But not to take away from the work you are doing here. The crane kit looks great. And you are doing a nice neat job on it! Personally I would put it on a little heavier duty truck myself. Like a Ford C-cab with 6X6 drive and a flatbed and the crane!! :D Be Well Gator Edited July 5, 2015 by gatorincebu
landman Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Just ordered the Effer crane. This forum is expensive. Everytime I see something I run out & order it.
Tesla Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Wise choice on going with the Effer crane for this build. Keep up the good work Pat, it's looking real nice!
landman Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 (edited) First jib extension. Yup, it is BIG! Edited December 21, 2020 by landman

Pat, You are doing a super clean build on the KFS crane. And I am sure you will put it on something a little bit bigger and more appropriate! The Effer crane is not a bad kit. A little planning is required ie painting etc. But i know for me. It works better on the Dodge. As for the Forums being expensive???? lol But yes I do agree to an extent. My problem with the Forums is I spend more time on them then I do at the workbench! That is why I bowed out of a couple, and there are a couple more I only check weekly. They are rather slow anyway. I hope to have my workbench somewhat set up very soon. Be Well Gator
landman Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 The KFS crane may very well end up on one of the Paystars I just got. Back to the Dodge, I find the wheels slightly larger than the tire openings. Would warming up the tires help slip them on?

Would warming up the tires help slip them on? Pat, If I remember correctly. I have just forced the tires onto the rims on any of the builds of kits from that company. yes you might try warming the tire up a bit. but then they may be too hot to handle. You could also try putting the rims in the freezer?? but they might become too brittle?? If your wheels are already n[ainted you might try some virgin coconut oil or something organic. Once the tires are on. You can wash them in warm soapy water. Oh and I really like the idea of the KFS crane on a paystar! Be Well Gator
GrumpyGrowly Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Pat, I did PM you with some ideas on the wheels. I do agree with Gator an organic oil (not synthetic) would be my go to, if I had thought of it at the time. lol
landman Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) Painted a lot of little parts. Made some adapters for the V10 headers to round pipe. Started fabricating some coil packs. When working with things smaller than a toothpick, a fellow's age comes to the surface. Edited December 21, 2020 by landman
gatorincebu Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Pat, I like what I see here! Keep up the good work! Be Well Gator
landman Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 (edited) Added the wheels. Will use the V10's own rad with electric fans as well as the Viper type air intake. Started on the plug boots. I see I have some straightening to do. Edited December 21, 2020 by landman
landman Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 (edited) If you look at the last picture in the previous post, this engine has this type of coil, however it has only the four post one. IO think making a six post one like this will be easier. Edited December 21, 2020 by landman
landman Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Swapped the Viper six-speed for the L-700 five-speed. added the manifolds and some wash detail to the engine. Found out that the type of coil pack in the previous post is a Viper application and the type I had started is from the Ram V-. So I finished those of that type I had begun earlier. landman Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Received the Italeri crane. Edited December 21, 2020 by landman
landman Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) Put the base of the crane together with masking tape and tried it on for size. It is a better fit all right. It still doesn't clear the tank which will have to be moved further back a bit. Had to notch a crossmenber to clear the transmission, but it should work OK. Edited December 21, 2020 by landman
gatorincebu Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Pat, it is too bad you can't cut a notch in the tank, or relocate it?? :-) I think this crane will work out much better on this truck. And I know that the KFS crane will look great on the PayStar! Be Well Gator
