Petetrucker07 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Can anybody help identify what this is. A Johan promo or some sort of kit? I know the pic isn't the greatest, actually almost no help at all. Maybe someone knows how to identify what it is once I have it in my hands. Thanks for any help.
Rob Hall Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Hmmm...either the MPC or Johan stock car race car kit, it looks like...that hood scoop is from somewhere else, though..
Petetrucker07 Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 Thanks. Once I get in my possession and tore down I'll post more pics. I hope it can be built fairly easily into a dealer lookin build.
disabled modeler Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Looks like the old Johan stock car one to me.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 Does it have headlights or the covers? I don't know yet. Once I get it in my hands I'll know more.
1930fordpickup Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=95581&hl=torino Clayton have you read through this thread yet. If I remember it talks about the different release of that kit. Just ignore the bashing of the yet to be released kit.
Bob Ellis Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Looks like Johan/ AMT NASCAR. I see the fuel cap on the side which is not stock.
59-Desoto Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 It is the AMT NASCAR kit, JoHan was done only as a promo with none opening hood
Petetrucker07 Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 Well, now that I have my hands on it and looked it over. Quickly I determined it is an old NASCAR kit, whos? I don't know yet. The next thing I noticed, the only thing Torino about it is the body. Everything, minus a motor and tires, is 70 Super Bee prostreet, dash, tub chassis and rims. Very disappointed to say the least. I'm gonna have to fub my way through this with 70 Torino parts I imagine. I'm gonna have to figure something out for the dash, I know 70 to 72, the dashes were very different. I hope to have a decent lookin shelf piece when I'm done with it.
1930fordpickup Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Clayton the 70 is not a full frame car if I remember correctly if that makes a difference to you. You could also just get a cheap 90's Tbird NASCAR kit and use the running gear and frame.
russosborne Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) This is assuming you want to do a non Nascar car. Although back then they still built on the factory chassis, so it might be worth it even if you want a Nascar version. I don't know if they are the same scale, but the Starsky and Hutch car is a "correct" chassis and the interior is close for a 72 (some changes, like the 72 had unique front buckets if you are going with buckets. Again, if the scale is the same, or if you are like me and don't worry about fractions of an inch. If you want to do some online research into the real car, check out this site I am a member on. I did the link so it goes directly to the 72-76 Torino section. http://forum.grantorinosport.org/19721976-ford-and-mercury_forum4&SID=25542053da94adbc372a63a8a88d23698958333.html HTH, Russ Edited July 19, 2015 by russosborne typo
