Matt T. Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I know there are many Revell-Monogram 1/25 repops, but is this the first time the Monogram logo has graced a 1/25 scale kit? By the way, this kit looks great. Improvements to the body, nice engineering, optional parts. Buy with confidence!
Fabrux Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Monogram has released 1:25 kits under their own brand in the past. IIRC the first one was the 59 Cadillac Eldorado convertible; the 50 Ford F-1 is another.
Mr Stock Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I think the recent re-release of the 40 Ford Standard coupe is in a Monogram box as well, it was in a revell box originally
Brett Barrow Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Also the new-tool 55 Chevies, 59 Impala, all the Monogram Pro Modeler stuff, the Dan Fink Speedwagon (even though the 3-window was branded Revell). Monogram and Revell merged in the mid-80's and the two brands have been used interchangeably and somewhat arbitrarily (seems to me) since. The "Car Show" line that the Del Rio is part of is branded Monogram regardless of provenance. I suspect the differing lines have something to do with how the big-box stores (or places where the buyers aren't knowledgeable about 1:1 cars) buy their kits, they just place orders for the series, like, give me 3 from the Car Show line, 3 from the Streetburner line, 3 from the Special Edition line, etc...
Bob Ellis Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I believe Revell had to use the Monogram label every so often to keep the right, Once in a while I go to the EXXON or MOBIL station and I see they are selling ESSO products.
Fabrux Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 FYI, there are no Exxon or Mobil stations in Canada; only Esso.
Longbox55 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Esso is still pretty common outside the US. However, in order to maintain the rights to it here, they have to put the name on some sort of product sold in the US.
Bob Ellis Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 FYI, there are no ESSO stations in the USA, but I see ESSO stuff at the stations once in a while. It's all the same company, but due to a anti-trust suit over 100 years ago, it is illegal to use ESSO name in all the states.
Force Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) In my humble opinion the Monogram brand should only go on the original Monogram tooling kits. The way they do it now it's just confusing, Revell branding on old Monogram kits and Monogram branding on both old and new Revell kits, if you don't know your model kit history you can be seriously fooled. AMT was the same before Round 2 took over, after Ertl bought the brands MPC and AMT every model kit were branded AMT-Ertl regardless of the original manufacturer wich was way confusing, Round 2 has corrected that and reinstated the MPC name, and they have bought Linberg and Polar Lights and added them to their lineup.
