envious8420 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 for hoses i like to use electrical shrink wrap. comes in all different colors and sizes. slip a piece of solder inside (making sure the tube is longer than the solder) bend to shape, heat lightly with heat source of your choice trim the ends maybe a dab of ca to seal it up and you can use smaller sizes for heater, p/s and ac hoses. you can also make duct couplers for cold air intakes and brake ducts. just cut to length and heat lightly.
Olle F Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I have used the same method, but with aluminum or copper wire. Haven't even thought about solder, but it sounds like it would be much easier to work with. Great tip!
m408 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Anybody tried black jacketed wire? Comes in as many gauges as you might need, from solid 10, 12, 14, etc... to stranded 24, 22, to little bity stuff. I think that the advantage might be that you could form the hose needed, strip about a 1/16 off of each end, drill an appropriate size anchor hole, CA and install. (I know that the hoses from sprues NEVER fit).

I ran across some with printing on it, looks like the factory markings on molded radiator hoses. Sometimes the military type wire has identification marking on it. mikelo Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 You can make some pretty realistic "flex" hose radiator hose (you know, the old fashioned rubber hose with all the bellows on it.) by taking a thinner wire, wrapping around it with some wire, putting the shrink tube over it and shrinking down. Great for the rat rod style.

Great for the rat rod style. i like to do that for brake and intake ducting, looks like dryer vent tube. and with a bit of hillbilly chrome (krylon chrome) it can look pretty realistic. MikeMc Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I've used shrink tubing over alum tube cut and bent for exhaust collectors.

DukeE Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Even 21 hours ago! Boolean searches a mind-buster. Easy to route with wire in center. For all the fun water intercoolers and plumbing. Prob would work for large electric motor conduit too.
