I've used masking tape to cover the window area where the windshield wipers would sweep across, and then spray the glass with dullcoat.  It gives you a dirty glass effect.

That is how I do it too . But I like to use BMF because it leaves a crisper line-also use a compass to generate the radiuses (or is it radii ? ) of the wipers .
