Modlbldr Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I just picked up a partial kit of an AMT 57 Chevy without a box or instructions. I am curious about a date of this kit because there are parts that I have not seen before. It is molded in white plastic. I would love to post pictures of it but for some reason I cannot get PB to post. The parts that I have not seen before are the tires and the custom wheel covers. The tires are Firestone Supremes with a thin whitewall on one side and a red line on the other. The wheel covers are chromed and conical shaped with four flat triangle shapes evenly spaced around the face of the wheel. I know that this is an old version because there was also an unopened tube of AMT putty in the box.Any help in a kit date and what the wheel covers are would be great. Thanks. Later-
Greg Myers Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Sounds like an early version. I'd like to post some pictures but It just ain't workin'
Modlbldr Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 Just for further clarification the kit has a custom canted headlight front piece and a custom Bill Hines "The Bat" style rear piece. The hood has a giant hole molded in it that is almost the entire top surface. This kit is missing the body and , given the look of the hood, possibly a stock hood. Later-
dodgefever Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) Those white/red line Firestones were found in late '60s AMT annuals. Could be the first issue with the Pepper Shaker box art? I think that was the last with the original custom parts:http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/automotive-cars--pi/chevrolet/1951-1960/amt-57-chevy-pepper/ Edited July 29, 2015 by dodgefever
pharoah Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 From the description of the custom parts,it sounds like the first issue. 1964? But the tires may be from another kit.
Modlbldr Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 The instructions for the Pepper Shaker looks like the parts that I have. The custom.wheel covers are the ones that I have. Thanks for the help. Later-
