drodg Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 (edited) I am in the process of working on my 1968 Roadrunner. I am using MCW paints with the color being the 1968 Avocado Green. It is going well and I am trying to build a fairly simple kit by not wiring the engine etc. Some changes I am making are to add rocker moldings and using Keith Mark's decals for the rear tailight panel and lenses. Spending time now buffing and polishing the paint. Thanks for looking One more photo Edited August 20, 2015 by drodg
72 Charger Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Looks great I like the colour . I think I would of removed the mould seams at the C pillar though .
drodg Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Yes and thought the same thing last night. Looks great I like the colour . I think I would of removed the mould seams at the C pillar though .
drodg Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 The color has turned out looking great as I am copying a 1:1 car I found on the internet. I had put the kit down for a few months after finishing the interior etc and I picked up again this week and plan on finishing it. I somehow overlooked that c pillar seem mold line and I should have used a little putty and sanded it. Oh well. The kit looks right to me except the one area that is a challenge is the grill. I have been working on the headlights to make them look more correct etc. Keith Mark's decals help that horrible tail light situation also. Anyhow thanks everyone and I will keep posting after I get the body polished out and probably shoot another coat of clear on it. Have a good day.
07Richard Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) Models do not have to be perfect. If you had fun and enjoyed the process, then all is good. Your Roadrunner looks great. Edited August 6, 2015 by 07Richard Add comment
drodg Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 Thanks That c pillar line was probably overlooked by me because of all of the 1:1 Chrysler muscle cars I have had with tons of body and paint imperfections! LOL!
Speedfreak Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I'll be following along as this ('68) is one of my favorite cars of all time. I still remember the first time I saw one on the street as a kid. The Roadrunners were game changers.
mikemopar70 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 This will be a really nice Muscle-car, great color choice for this 1968, keept it going!!
drodg Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Thanks everyone. I have had a busy week this week but I should be able to get some work done on it tomorrow. Have a good weekend.
b-body fan Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 This is the first kit I built when I got back into this after 30 years. I built mine of a good friend of mine's 1:1. Had a blast. One of my favorite cars. Yours looks similar. We modeled the same interior color option. My friends car has a darker green exterior.Yours looks very nice. Keep up the good work.
om617 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Good start and nice color. These cars also look great in solid colors.
drodg Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 Got the paint buffed this afternoon and need to shoot some more clear on it but I would like the humidity to drop a tad before I do it.
PeeBee Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 That's funny, I have an AMT '68 Roadrunner on the bench painted '68 Avacado Green, from Scalefinishes. Do you mind if I use your interior for reference?PB.
drodg Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 I have polished out the paint and it is looking good. I am finishing up the chassis this week. PeeBee you can certainly use my interior as reference. I will try to post this week a few more shots now that the paint is polished and the chassis is close to being finished. Thanks
D1SKNT Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 looks really clean! nice workim doing the same kit atm. ive flared my wheel arches but after i'd done it i didnt thing i had done anything at all till seeing your body.
drodg Posted August 20, 2015 Author Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Here are some updated photos. I am still working on getting the orange peel out of the body but it looks pretty good at this point. The chassis is coming along and I should be able to finish the chassis this week and start the bare metal foil etc. Edited August 20, 2015 by drodg
Speedfreak Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 That chassis looks pretty good David, are you using polishing clothes on the body?
drodg Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 I am using the Micro Mesh sand paper series on the body. Starting with 3200 and ending up with 12000 grade. I will finish up with some more polishing compound and wax.
